A few things that are interesting about the article:

1. It makes a point to say that the workers at the animal control center were paid less.

"Bearing armfuls of Slusho! happy drinks for all the lower wage workers"

2. Its very obvious they will be testing on the animals, but possibly not in the dangerous way, they may simply want to see its effect on the animals, see behavior changes and things like that. Rather than the torturing, dangerous style.

The town the animal center is in is kinda off the beaten path I think - if I am correct the town is one of the historical towns of Japan - not much technological progress.

PS... does anyone support animal testing on here? would i get lynched if i said i do? it did prevent both myself (anaphylactic) and my mom (diabetic) from dying...

I don't have any problem with it. Not in a cruel way obviously but if its to help make the drugs and vaccines that help my family then absolutely

the cause

Ok since The Effect is already blogging about those poor animals, can't we try to push it to Teddy via Jamie's MySpace ? Maybe we are the ones that will trigger something between the Cause and Tagruato?

Edit: I would but I'm not in any Slusho7's friends on Myspace.

Interesting idea. Like perhaps just send her a message with a link to the blog, and saying something like "Defend our Oceans, defend our world! Help the effect, spread the word!"

(off-topic slightly, but...) Speaking of which, wouldn't it be funny if JJ brought The Effect IG?

They might as well just come right out and call themselves "Langoliers"

Oh, that's it. They eat my time away, since July 2007 Smile

Agreed - the "Ganu" reference could be seen as creepy, or as just a bit of P.R. It's definitely ambiguous.

So, they're doling out free Slusho! to elderly people in nursing homes, lower-wage workers, their own employees [there's mention of that in another news piece somewhere], and animals (at a "remote animal control center" which I assume is like an animal shelter).

What do all these groups have in common, apart from providing in vitro testing for bioreactive compounds? For one, they pose a relatively low threat of litigation, should there be negative *ahem* side effects. So, is Slusho! just Ganu's vehicle to conduct widespread testing, without all the hassles of clinical trials, etc.? If so, he's either just stereotypically evil, or maybe he's under some kind of time-pressure. Maybe he's got to find something before it's too late! (cue ominous music). Don't know what though. Just a thought. Maybe something to do with Mom (Noriko)?

testing

all the articles point to tagruato test groups old people, young kids, working class, and now animals. it's kind of odd they would only purchase animal facilities that showed the most positive results. i am willing to bet that whatever the secret ingredient is, the only reason why it is being released in the u.s. is to expand the research group. i feel slusho! was just created to test the ingredient and it has nothing to do with fulfilling any dream.

I re-read the article and the fact that they took the animals that drank the most slusho BACK WITH THEM really jumped out at me...

"Tagruato is working so hard to ensure a prosperous future for humans...We want that future for small animals as well." (what future?)

They're testing this product on humans and animals...without anyone even knowing they are being tested on. they're good.

Is there any mention of any of the employees/ganu drinking slusho?

Yes, in the article entitled, "Testaments of happiness and gratitude from Tagruato's finest" (on the Tagruato site, under Headlines, bottom article). Here's an excerpt:

Quote:
"In the past, the reputation of Tagruato has been sullied by reports of mistreating their employees," announced Ganu. "I have personally seen to it that no such claims will ever be made again."

"I actually look forward to coming to work each morning," explained Kita Ijichi, a floor manager on the Sujin Station.

The study found that Tagruato was in the top ninety-fifth percentile for wages, health benefits, and overall employee morale. They also received high grades for their retirement savings plans and investment opportunities. Workers cited their pride in the Tagruato Cares foundation and their card allowing for half-off Slusho! at any participating vendors as some of their most favorable factors.

So, that doesn't exactly say they were feeding it to them. Still, though...

There's also the little league team, the Tagruato Lions:

Quote:
For the third straight summer, the Slusho! fueled Lions became league champs after defeating the Nishio Dragons by way of forfeit.

EDIT: And, don't forget that the Lions won "by forfeit" because the pitcher was hitting all the batters...

Quote:
Lions pitcher Masakuzo Endo (8-0) had nine strike outs and thirteen hit batsman. Nishio coach Geoff Jingle was forced to forfeit after he looked to his bench and found no Dragons brave enough to step to the plate.

get ready for this!

o.k. ganu distributes slusho on a grand scale and the reason for ganu focusing in on the positive test subjects is that they reacted to the ingredient in the manner he intended, he can control them with the ingredient. ganu is the tamberine man!!! the worlds crack dealer. now all those who were not effected, well he sicks mr. grumpy pants on them. grumpypants wipes out the leftovers slusho addicts are left to his control. the reason he tested on animals was to see if he could control them. once he finds out he can, they unearth grumpypants pump him full of slusho! crack and viola!!! tagruato's newest employee.

With the center in Takayama, the girls completed their nationwide tour of Japan's animal shelters. While all the shelters received a generous donation from the Tagruato Cares! foundation, the centers with the most Slusho!-friendly animals were purchased and welcomed into the Tagruato family. These centers will undergo a full renovation in the next three years, making way for modern facilities with up-to-date research, technology, and rehabilitation equipment.

it reads to me like it was the actual centers that tagruato bought, rather than just theanimals - being renovated and kitted out for some biological research type tomfoolery perhaps?

Yeah, it sounds like they're definitely converting these animal control centers into Tagruato laboratories, and they come with their own test subjects - bonus!

Here's another idea, playing off the basic plot in Serenity...

Maybe Ganu thinks he can improve humanity by feeding everyone Slusho! I mention this only b/c if that were true, then "The Cause" that Teddy works for could be Ganu's Cause, rather than whoever was responsible for recently hacking the Tagruato site.

Also, whatever Ganu's plans are - If he had some kind of 'control' over Senor Grumpypants, and if he somehow orchestrated the NYC attack, I don't think it would be just to hold the world hostage (ala Dr. Evil). It would have to be part of a larger design - but, why would he 'teach the world to sing in perfect harmony' with Slusho! and then unleash hell on them/us? That doesn't really make sense.
