Say, this site: http://www.cloverfield.com/ wasn't there a few month ago, was it? And searching Unfiction for "lutge*" comes up blank.

The site seems a bit odd but legit, save for two things that bothers me:

Why on earth would they put their customer login on a different domain, and stranger yet, why would someone holding the domain cloverfield.com start using it for that, now?

And secondly: Check out the logo on this baby http://www.lutge.com/who.html.

Dig up the archive of that site from July and it says "this site is in no way affiliated with the trailer running in front of Transformers" or words to that effect; someone else links to it in a recent post, but I can't find it atm. Cloverfield.com is oog.

aight. thanks.

Definitely safe to say it's OOG, but maybe an attempt at a lil'
tongue in cheek humor in the heading Lutge chose...lol

Remind you of anything??

I'll go with the spec that the military name for the operation is Cloverfield. If that is the name of the movie, I can see why they didn't end up announcing it and went for the date instead.

Hmmm... Deep Sea Nectar + Cloverfield (Clovers, flowers) + Tagruato finding the "field"... Harvesting for Capitalism... See what I mean? Still could be a military incident name but thats why...

No, I'm not.

I just have sex with her and acquire her vast secret knowledge of Cloverfield in order to feed frustrated unfictioners more confusing info.

Sometimes I do all of that at the same time.

It's become obvious to me that "Cloverfield" as a title was chosen by the producers because this is what the movie has been known as by most people since the release of the teaser back on 07-03-07.

Prognosis:
The entire movie is shot in hand held camera style.
Therefore, it is from the point of view of a small group of people (Slusho 7?)
Haz-mat crew walking through disaster area finds camera
What we see is on that camera.

To me, this means that the entire movie is only the attack on NYC and that everything that we are going through here online is just back-story.

In short, we who have researched this film online will probably know more about the movie than your average movie-goer.

However, the movie will be so kick-ass that even your average movie-goer is going to piss their pants watching this, without ever knowing the complete story.

Slusho, Tagruato and The Cause will never be mentioned.

Wow^^^ totally agree on everything including why it is now Cloverfield - that was never the intended name, Abrams said he would announce the real name(this is while cloverfield was being used).

i.e., what if you had this intriguing history and character development, and you never needed to spend one minute of onscreen filming expense explaining it. All the fans, with prompts from an 8 man staff of interns and web designers making fake sites, did it for you, BEFORE the movie. They show up with an unusually built, but still effective story in hand. Then, you can spend the entire 1.5 hours of movie in non-stop, heart pounding action as NYC gets it's guts stomped.

If you could pull that off...your peers would call you genius, and investors would triple the next contract, eh?

And perhaps, instead of fans having two hours of entertainment, they get six months, (3 of which are cursing you, but still can't look away). And then AFTER the movie, the press go gaga explaining the strategy and then millions of movie goers run to forums and fake sites to find out what they missed all over again.

Exactly!

Doesn't this make sense to you? Especially considering their limited budget?

Especially your AFTER the movie comment.

In an interview, Lizzy Caplan said "We have made a 30 million dollar movie look like it cost 150 million."

It's gonna be genius.

Maybe the monster is a giant aquatic bovine that has a taste for clover.

And since Abrams never got around to announcing the name before the writer's strike, the producers had to pick a name from what was available. Abrams is still involved, but he and the writer (who's name slips my mind) can't write anything new w/out strike breaking (They are both WGA members). Thankfully the movie was pretty much in the can and in editing by strike time, advantage of a low budget I imagine. (more money=more time to make film=not being done by strike time)

I liked Overnight personally.

As to the in movie use.. may Project Cloverfield is the source, with the creature as the result, being code-named 'cloverfield' by default. Multiple sighting of Cloverfield seems to refer to glances of the creature or its associated results (whether parasites, destruction, or project personel, hard to say)

I don't know about Tagruato or The Cause, but Slusho will probably be mentioned because, presumably, Rob is going to Japan to work for Slusho, and there were Slusho shirts at the party. And if Rob does have an idea of what's going on, he would probably mention something about it to Hud or someone else while the camera was around.
