Well in "House of Leaves" there were a lot of doors, which could be named as portal (but wasn't named actually).

Mortal Kombat when I read the title I seriously thought that it referred to Mortal Kombat.

Oh, I've even written to another thread but it fits here very good:

"With those young, fresh minds working together, anything is possible. I've watched these new graduates - they have ideas on everything from creating new energy sources to starting us down the road to teleportation ," said Tokyo-based Professor Akira Okinawa.

1. Why the monster stands up so well to the military strike. think if it was an earth-born organic life form, it wouldn't be so invulnerable.
Well, if it lives way down low in the high-pressure ocean near a geo-thermal vote once could movie-science a reason for its added toughness.

I really, really hope that the monster doesn't come from another woirld. Some otherwordly influence would be just about acceptable, but anything more just doesn't seem right.

stephen king also used portals in The Dark Tower collection. At one point in the epic story, The Gunslinger uses portals to gain access to another parralel universe and pull ppl back through. not a monster though

Note that Cloverfield was the name of an organism Tag was developing, since it resembled them.
However, a wormhole DOES seem likely. There's also the presence of the dark figures when the group flees down a dark hall (there appear to be insectoid figures that flash for a split second).
If the wormhole is correct, then it's not just the Kaiju that's the problem.
However, there's the enviromental guys hacking at Tag - it's possible the Kaiju is just a mutant...
EDIT: There's also a portal in "From a Buick 8".

Ah, i don't go along with the portal theory. although i like portal stories, just don't think this is one. I stick with it being unearthed from digging too deep.
kind of like LOTR and dwarves digging too deep and releasing the balroc.

Two pages into this thread, I'm surprised NOBODY mentioned Doom yet. Its definitely one of the orignal mosters portal'd in from a different dimention.
If you have a big wormhole/portal that the monster comes out of, you MUST have a guy who can carry 10+ weapons, over 500 rounds for each individual gun, and a BFG9000.
I can has BFG9000 pl0x?

What? Portals to alternate dimensions releasing dark gods who wreak havoc upon the face of the Earth?
Huh.
I don't think so.
