n a move surely to shake up the world of physics, Bold Futura has recruited one hundred of the top physics majors graduating from universities around the world. Most highly sought after was Johan Hedberg from Sweden. His internationally-acclaimed thesis on the intricate ecosystems of deep sea crevices landed him immediate tenure at his university but he turned it down for the opportunity to work for Bold Futura.

I thought physicists studied physics, not biology?

that is wierd... Confused

Much like there is mechanical engineering, bio-engineering, chemical engineering, electrical engineering (the list goes on), there are also sub-fields of physics. And, while it may be a small field, I imagine bio-physics or chemical physics is in fact one of these areas.

Bold Futura has recruited one hundred of the top physics majors graduating from universities around the world.

From glass helmets:
"The Glass Helmets bring together many disparate elements of the global metal scene into a sound that is fierce, often grandiose, but still earnest. Their still unreleased LP, "Hyperion and his disciples" is an album in the truest sense, with an often cryptic, but fairly clever narrative about physicists doing battle with the pantheon of greek gods in a dystopian future.

Are they trying to give proof The Glass Helmets are IG?

The more I read this thread, the more I tend to see The Cause as Tagruato's motto. Ganu is presented as an undisputed leader : even 7 years of hard work does'nt count when he by-passed the chain of command during the launch of the satellite. The Slusho Smilers! and the Tagruato Cares! foundation seems overwhlemingly positive and devoted to Ganu's vision. It is tempting to think that Teddy is working for Tagruato and he has to join "Ganu's Cause". Maybe Tagruato is devoted to protect our future after all, because they discovered something linked to the events of 1-18-08 and they are rushing (non-ethical research, hiring a dream team of physicists, space exploration to find a safe haven for mankind, etc) to prevent a not so Bold future.

Oh, it sounds reasonable. I think also about

While all the shelters received a generous donation from the Tagruato Cares! foundation, the centers with the most Slusho!-friendly animals were purchased and welcomed into the Tagruato family. These centers will undergo a full renovation in the next three years, making way for modern facilities with up-to-date research, technology, and rehabilitation equipment.
"Tagruato is working so hard to ensure a prosperous future for humans," said company spokeswoman Suzume Soga. "We want that future for small animals as well."

Is it just me or do they want to find Slusho!-friendly animals? And people? Perhaps to survive, like Noah?

Tagruato as Noah's ark?
Slusho as immunizator against something?
And "future" not only in rhetoric way (like "bright future") but with existential meaning ("only Slushoids can survive")?

"Teleportation" is acutally something quantum physicists have been investigating for a while now. Atoms have been teleported from one part of the lab to another by IBM and other researchers... source. It's interesting, but not too surprising.

Why Rob is going to Japan

I've been lurking the past week or so and have decided to post something after reading the speculation brought up in this thread about why Rob is going to Japan. Some people thought he was getting recruited for physics but he is a marketing major so it does not look like he would be going to work for Bold Futura. However I think he is going to work for Slusho!

In the company description of Slusho! on the Tagruato site it says "The next step is to introduce Slusho! to the rest of the world. A search is on for top marketing professionals who will be tasked with duplicating the drink's Asian popularity in the Western market. Our aspiration is to one day place Slusho! dispensers in every convenience store and mini mart. Slusho zoom!"

Rob is going to Japan to help market Slusho! in the US.

I hope this wasn't brought up already.

I also think this, perhaps he'll win that Slusho!-Award on the slusho.jp
But for this he has not so much time, about 1,5 month till 18th January...

This would also explain why someone at the party was wearing a Slusho! shirt in the trailer. I am sure they sent him free stuff and his friend was wearing it to support him.

Also maybe he heard about the job because Teddy does in fact work for Tagruato. Otherwise it would be weird if both of them unknowingly worked for the same company.

I definitely think this is the most likely scenario. Furthermore, with this in mind, I wouldn't put it past JJ to have Teddy working for "the Cause" which is antagonistic to Tagruato's interests. Thus, you have two characters connected by friendship/relationship with the same girl on opposite sides of the "ecological/environmental" battle. That would make one heck of a narrative backdrop to the movie.

slusho shirts and caps are already sold via slusho store. Some trendy unfictioners are already wearing them at the moment.

I know I was just saying that it makes it more likely that someone would be wearing that shirt if the party was for someone who was going away to go work for them.

Yes, I think that sounds right.

And yes, there must be something nefarious about "saving mankind."

Slusho! is the answer, perhaps immortality?

Space exploration, new frontiers, Noah's Ark, all of these ideas seem like a nice fit.

And inevitably, yes, something goes wrong when man "tries to change Nature."

An oldy but a goody.

I've said it before, (elsewhere) and I'll say it again, Cloverfield will either be SUPER great or it will suck.

I'm betting on the former given all of the thought that is going into the back story.

In case no one ever listened to Mike Seigal/Art Bells Coast-to-Coast, The show is dedicated to the paranormal and the extra-terrestrial. Odd happenings and experiences beyond what science accepts.

All the things mentioned above.. + aliens and unexplained phenomena...

Curious Chuai Station

Okay, so I'm not sure if this is the place to post this, but I was checking the Tagruato drilling sites and well this may sound crazy but...

The other day, before the last re-hack, I was checking Chuai station and I could have sworn that it said Date Opened Sept 2007 with EURR being about 3.5 or some other actual number given.

Yet when I checked today, the Chuai station was back to saying Date Opened: Openning Sept 2007 with the EURR being in development! Now I know its been like this for a long time, but I could have sworn that before the second hack it had actually been updated as an active location!

Not sure if anyone else noticed this. Unfortunatly I have no proof other that what I saw with my own two eyes. Confused
