No, it wont let me even extract it, and there was nothing at all in the body of the message.

I am thinking I may just have to ask what the password is so that I can see what is on the inside.

Hmm maybe it is redmonday or something like the such. I should of forward the email to me at work.

I think he's asking you to post the password-protected file, so we can try working on it.

That is just it. It is a .zip file and it wont let me unzip to post it. I can email it to people who want me to. Just send me a pm. FYI it will not be till I get home from work.

Anyone have any luck cracking that file? I'm trying to brute-force it, but that could take anywhere from an hour to two weeks...

well, i think it's longer than 5 digits at least. i did a run of all printable characters in passwords of up to 5 characters (over 8 billion passwords) and i came up with nothing.

now the long hauls really start.

Did you get any more info? It doesn;t look like im going to get the pasword this way. to test 7 letter permutations will take 2 and a half days of non-stop computing at about 10-20 million per second.

Unfortunately, he's not giving us anything more on that. I was hoping your way was going to snag something!

I'll post the chat as soon as we've concluded. If you've got questions and can't hop on Skype, throw them up here.

End-Game PM Chat Log
Although we still don't know what's in that zipped PDF.

Log of the chat.

Quote:

Darren Knight says: Hi
J. Marcus Xavier says: heya Darren
Darren Knight says: whats up?
J. Marcus Xavier says: just a minute, I need to take the dog out real quick
Darren Knight says: ok, coincidentally i need to let the cat out
J. Marcus Xavier says: back
Darren Knight says: ok, by any chance can salsaman join the chat?
J. Marcus Xavier says: of course, anyone can
Darren Knight added Salsaman1991 to this chat
J. Marcus Xavier says: heya
Salsaman1991 says: first of all, I wanna congratulate you for your first episode
Salsaman1991 says: of RM, that is
Salsaman1991 says: it's awesome
Darren Knight says: one second, slow computer
Salsaman1991 says: I've listened to it 7 times and I've never gotten bored of it
J. Marcus Xavier says: wow
J. Marcus Xavier says: thanks Salsa, I'm glad you enjoyed it Smile
Salsaman1991 says: yeah, that's how much I like it
J. Marcus Xavier says: more to come
Salsaman1991 says: I sure do hope so
Salsaman1991 says: have you guys already recorded the whole thing or are you recording/editing one per week?
J. Marcus Xavier says: actually the whole thing is recorded, mostly
J. Marcus Xavier says: just doing post production
J. Marcus Xavier says: Episode 2 is in the queue
J. Marcus Xavier says: and I'm working on episode 3, for release 2 weeks from now
J. Marcus Xavier says: np
Salsaman1991 says: great
J. Marcus Xavier says: this was my first ARG, though
Darren Knight says: let me tell you, you ran it terifically
Salsaman1991 says: perhaps I should try making a drama podcast myself. I'm a writer, so it should be interesting
Salsaman1991 says: indeed
J. Marcus Xavier says: hehe well thanks
Darren Knight says: between the pregame publicism
Darren Knight says: that was pretty well planned out
J. Marcus Xavier says: I wasnt sure starting off, cuz I've never even played an arg before
Salsaman1991 says: this was my first ARG, and I have to tell you it was really good
Darren Knight says: is the game over though, because it seems like some people have their hands on this file, i got an email from JC
Darren Knight says: were all a little confused
Salsaman1991 says: both as a first experience and as the RM experience itself
Salsaman1991 says: oh yeah, that too
J. Marcus Xavier says: an encrypted file?
Darren Knight says: yes
Salsaman1991 says: are you gonna carry the game a little further?
J. Marcus Xavier says: Wink who knows
Salsaman1991 says: oh, I get it
J. Marcus Xavier says: hmm?
Salsaman1991 says: that last riddle, the one with the cities, it was really hard, and I still don't know if we finally got the answer or not
Salsaman1991 says: I wa sjust saying that I have an idea of what you might be doing with the zipped file
J. Marcus Xavier says: oh?
Salsaman1991 says: not telling though Razz
J. Marcus Xavier says: LOL
J. Marcus Xavier says: there you go
J. Marcus Xavier says: that's the secret to being a PM, right there ;P
J. Marcus Xavier says: now *I'm* curious
Salsaman1991 says: xD
Darren Knight says: so were you doing this all by yourself? PMing
Salsaman1991 says: ahh
J. Marcus Xavier says: Well, as for the color codes
Salsaman1991 says: I was about to ask that very question
J. Marcus Xavier says: well okay
J. Marcus Xavier says: first the puzzle, then Darren's Q
J. Marcus Xavier says: the color code thing, actually was supposed to be extremely hard.
J. Marcus Xavier says: because I didnt want you guys to solve it before the premiere
J. Marcus Xavier says: and, actually, there isnt an *absolute* solution
J. Marcus Xavier says: Cry0bot got as close as was possible
Darren Knight says: oh, so is that why there was a communications gap torwards the end?
J. Marcus Xavier says: The color codes are a ranking system
Salsaman1991 says: that's what I thought
J. Marcus Xavier says: yes
J. Marcus Xavier says: IIRC
J. Marcus Xavier says: I dont have it in front of me
J. Marcus Xavier says: but Blue in column 1 meant
J. Marcus Xavier says: "High Priority"
Darren Knight says: that makes sense
J. Marcus Xavier says: Yellow "Secondary Priority"
J. Marcus Xavier says: and Red "Non Priority"
J. Marcus Xavier says: and then the 2nd column
J. Marcus Xavier says: reversed the pattern, and added in the background noise of the other colors
J. Marcus Xavier says: so red meant "high priority"
Salsaman1991 says: I knew it was just noise
J. Marcus Xavier says: yellow was still the same
J. Marcus Xavier says: and blue meant "non priority"
J. Marcus Xavier says: and if you whittled it down, I believe you ended up with
J. Marcus Xavier says: .. LA and San Fran?
Darren Knight says: something like that
J. Marcus Xavier says: which Cry0bot ended up placing at the top of his list
J. Marcus Xavier says: with LA, the final answer
J. Marcus Xavier says: at the top
J. Marcus Xavier says: mere coincidence
J. Marcus Xavier says: I laughed when he wrote "did I just figure this out??"
J. Marcus Xavier says: cuz, he did
Salsaman1991 says: it was awkward to say the least
J. Marcus Xavier says: how do you mean?
Salsaman1991 says: just plain weird
J. Marcus Xavier says: the city list?
Darren Knight says: lol
Salsaman1991 says: no, that he had actually managed to get LA in the top
J. Marcus Xavier says: *nodnod* very much so
J. Marcus Xavier says: the other question
Salsaman1991 says: as a side note, I almost went deff with the blast's sound. Where did you get that?
Salsaman1991 says: 'k, the other Q first
Darren Knight says: so many questions
Salsaman1991 says: yeah, sorry about that
J. Marcus Xavier says: no problem
J. Marcus Xavier says: um, yeah, I pretty much did this alone
J. Marcus Xavier says: I had some friends help me with details
J. Marcus Xavier says: like the digg leak
J. Marcus Xavier says: I had a buddy who was going to dress up as an agent at the podcast expo and come with me
J. Marcus Xavier says: but something came up
Salsaman1991 says: ahh
Salsaman1991 says: too bad
J. Marcus Xavier says: yeah
J. Marcus Xavier says: turned out fine, though
Salsaman1991 says: still, you got many people upset
J. Marcus Xavier says: yes
J. Marcus Xavier says: It kinda freaked me out, actually
Salsaman1991 says: that was AWESOME
Salsaman1991 says: it did?
J. Marcus Xavier says: yeah
J. Marcus Xavier says: I didnt think like
J. Marcus Xavier says: security would get upset
J. Marcus Xavier says: and Tim would come down on me like that
J. Marcus Xavier says: but
J. Marcus Xavier says: if he hadnt
Salsaman1991 says: I would've gone like "hell yeah, I creeped them out! High five!"
J. Marcus Xavier says: the Digg thing wouldnt have worked
Darren Knight says: did you know tim at all?
J. Marcus Xavier says: nope
Darren Knight says: beforehand
Darren Knight says: o
Darren Knight says: ok
J. Marcus Xavier says: just stopped me in a hallway and threatened to throw me out
Salsaman1991 says: what did he tell you back then?
Salsaman1991 says: oohh
Salsaman1991 says: didn't you explain him that you were doing publicity?
J. Marcus Xavier says: He said that off the bat
J. Marcus Xavier says: I know you're trying to do publicity, but people are complaining
J. Marcus Xavier says: said that "women were frightened"
Darren Knight says: you werent doing anything just sitting right?
J. Marcus Xavier says: no I did stir up a little trouble
Salsaman1991 says: how did the people who took the envelopes react?
Darren Knight says: how so?
J. Marcus Xavier says: during the keynotes I walked around and I cased the audience
Salsaman1991 says: what was their face like?
Salsaman1991 says: lol
J. Marcus Xavier says: and I called some people out of the audience and I gave them red envelopes
J. Marcus Xavier says: in full view of everyone
J. Marcus Xavier says: I think Tim was upset because I sortof stole his thunder
Darren Knight says: lol
Salsaman1991 says: that must've been so weird
J. Marcus Xavier says: people's reactions were priceless
Salsaman1991 says: didn't you feel embarrassed or something?
Darren Knight says: i can just imagine
J. Marcus Xavier says: it was like I had told them "this message will self destruct in 5 seconds"
Darren Knight says: i would definatly love to do that
J. Marcus Xavier says: and they went all Mission Impossible and got into it
J. Marcus Xavier says: people were all asking "what's in the envelope?!?"
J. Marcus Xavier says: and the person who I handed it to would be like "he told me not to open it until I left the keynote"
J. Marcus Xavier says: created alot of buzz
J. Marcus Xavier says: positive and negative
Salsaman1991 says: lol
J. Marcus Xavier says: people either loved it or hated it
J. Marcus Xavier says: but they couldnt ignore it
J. Marcus Xavier says: and yeah I was embarassed
J. Marcus Xavier says: but the sunglasses helped
Salsaman1991 says: xD
J. Marcus Xavier says: people couldnt see my eyes so I felt like I could hide behind them Razz
Salsaman1991 says: didn't you burst out in laugh or something?
Darren Knight says: Cool
J. Marcus Xavier says: yeah exactly lol
Darren Knight says: lol
J. Marcus Xavier says: ummm
J. Marcus Xavier says: not really
J. Marcus Xavier says: I mean I did crack up once or twice
J. Marcus Xavier says: when someone said something funny to me
J. Marcus Xavier says: but not while in the keynotes
J. Marcus Xavier says: if I did, it would have ruined the effect
Darren Knight says: anyone take their picture with you?
J. Marcus Xavier says: oh yeah
J. Marcus Xavier says: lots of people did
Salsaman1991 says: xD
J. Marcus Xavier says: Wrote all about it here http://www.verysmalldoses.com/
J. Marcus Xavier says: links to pics in there
Darren Knight says: do you know what, everyone saw this, and people never linked this game to you or a podcast. Even with StarKnight in th whois
Darren Knight says: we are really not that bright
Salsaman1991 says: we focused too much on the game itself
J. Marcus Xavier says: I never revealed if I was the puppetmaster, or a hired hand
J. Marcus Xavier says: people were speculating I was just the front man
J. Marcus Xavier says: not the creator
J. Marcus Xavier says: I figured you guys were giving me the benefit of suspention of disbelief
J. Marcus Xavier says: Except ayanami rei
J. Marcus Xavier says: who seemed to think I was a real government operative XD
J. Marcus Xavier says: but then again, I kinda didnt make it obvious that I *wasnt*
Salsaman1991 says: did all the envelopes contain the same info?
Darren Knight says: XD im pretty sure it was obvious to most that gov. wasnt really involved in this
J. Marcus Xavier says: more or less the same info, yeah
J. Marcus Xavier says: printed out the message
J. Marcus Xavier says: crumpled it up
J. Marcus Xavier says: tore the edges
J. Marcus Xavier says: spilled liquid on it
Salsaman1991 says: yeah, specially in an expo for games that have a lot of weird stuff going on
J. Marcus Xavier says: and xeroxed it a bunch of times
J. Marcus Xavier says: and put it in the envelopes, so it looked like a smuggled document
Salsaman1991 says: lol
Darren Knight says: and they roughly said" the code is gabriel" red monday etc
J. Marcus Xavier says: yeah
J. Marcus Xavier says: and showed the symbol
Salsaman1991 says: which symbol? The saudi coat of arms or what?
J. Marcus Xavier says: the thing you guys were saying resembled the "whah" or whatever it was
Salsaman1991 says: you mean the arab symbol, the one that looked like a 6?
J. Marcus Xavier says: in some native Brazillian language
Salsaman1991 says: ohh
J. Marcus Xavier says: yeah
J. Marcus Xavier says: that one
Darren Knight says: was that ever anything?
Salsaman1991 says: why did you put that?
Darren Knight says: like did it have deeper meaning at all?
Salsaman1991 says: yeah
J. Marcus Xavier says: Cool
J. Marcus Xavier says: Deeper meaning? Not really
J. Marcus Xavier says: but it is linked to something you guys havent seen yet.
Salsaman1991 says: great
Darren Knight says: havent seen as havent found or will come up in the podcast?
Salsaman1991 says: I like the fact that we have a deeper view of the aduio drama than the rest of the listeners xD
J. Marcus Xavier says: Oh you guys already have it, right in front of you.
J. Marcus Xavier says: you just dont see it yet, because it's hidden.
Darren Knight says: dammit...encrypted?
J. Marcus Xavier says: but I shoudlnt make it sound so enigmatic
J. Marcus Xavier says: it's really not earth shattering
J. Marcus Xavier says: @ Darren: who knows? Wink
Salsaman1991 says: When the bomb went off I was like "Damn, Saul, why didn't you listen to what we had to say at all?"
Darren Knight says: you are an evil mastermind Sad
J. Marcus Xavier says: muhahahaaa
J. Marcus Xavier says: cool!
Salsaman1991 says: I dig evil stuff
J. Marcus Xavier says: I was hoping that the ARG would give you guys a sense of ownership of the story
J. Marcus Xavier says: since, you essentially ARE part of the backstory now
Salsaman1991 says: it certainly does
J. Marcus Xavier says: I had some rough ideas and end points for the ARG
J. Marcus Xavier says: but more or less I let myself go with the flow
Darren Knight says: satire is gonna come in soon
J. Marcus Xavier says: I totally played off of your speculation
J. Marcus Xavier says: cool
Salsaman1991 says: you did?
J. Marcus Xavier says: yep
J. Marcus Xavier says: I mean, certain things were concrete
Salsaman1991 says: so, in the end, I should have some credit for the script!
Salsaman1991 says: xD
J. Marcus Xavier says: but there
J. Marcus Xavier says: you know that's not a bad idea. If you guys like, I could add the Knights to the credits, for the "pre-story"
Salsaman1991 says: hey
Salsaman1991 says: naah, I wa sjust kidding, man
J. Marcus Xavier says: Just a way of saying thanks for playing
Darren Knight says: however if somehow we could get a refrence in the pocast....
Darren Knight says: Very Happy
Salsaman1991 says: xD
J. Marcus Xavier says: XD
Salsaman1991 says: I'd love to make a voice cameo, like "WTF? Bloody EMP!! My cell phone imploded!"
Satire says: Heya J. Marcus.
Satire says: Is that what we call you? Or Marcus, or J., or what? <smile>
J. Marcus Xavier says: well
Salsaman1991 says: Call him Mister Xavier </smile>
J. Marcus Xavier says: I often go by JMX
Darren Knight says: Alex turns out this technically isnt post game chat...we think....
Satire says: This isn't post-game chat?
Salsaman1991 says: the story is still running, so....
Satire says: Ah. Are we not supposed to discuss the ARG portion, then? Or is that continuing as well?
Satire says: JMX, fair enough.
Darren Knight says: JMX isnt telling us Razz
Salsaman1991 says: I guess we can discuss it
Salsaman1991 says: but he's being mysterious
Darren Knight says: past events at least
J. Marcus Xavier says: the game is 99% over, there's just one loose end[/B]
Salsaman1991 says: the zipped file?
J. Marcus Xavier says: Cool
Satire says: Ah. Well, I've got one: What were participating levels like? How many people signed up to be notified of the event on Red-Monday compared to how many had active participation? How many groups or teams were there besides the Knights?[/i]
J. Marcus Xavier says: okay, well
J. Marcus Xavier says: Numbers wise
J. Marcus Xavier says: over 1200 people signed up for the site
J. Marcus Xavier says: but actual game participation was limited mostly to what you saw on the forums
J. Marcus Xavier says: there were several other teams, but none of them got as involved as the Knights[/B]
Salsaman1991 says: just us?
Salsaman1991 says: ohh
Darren Knight says: so you were BSing us aboutother teams XD
J. Marcus Xavier says: XD
Salsaman1991 says: I kind of suspected it
J. Marcus Xavier says: I was actually trying to break up the teams
J. Marcus Xavier says: and groom another group
J. Marcus Xavier says: to register on unfiction
J. Marcus Xavier says: and totally mislead you guys
J. Marcus Xavier says: like a sleeper agent
J. Marcus Xavier says: but that never materialized[/B]
Satire says: How many red envelopes did you wind up passing out?[/i]
Salsaman1991 says: I googled RM and many forums discussed a little bit about it, but none actually got involved in the game
J. Marcus Xavier says: not a whole lot[/B]
Darren Knight says: plus, you weer getting enough trouble for looking at the forums
Darren Knight says: in the first place
J. Marcus Xavier says: I only made 100
J. Marcus Xavier says: yeah
J. Marcus Xavier says: that was part of the whole "my first ARG" thing[/B]
Satire says: (Heh, yeah, we grilled you pretty good about that, sorry)
J. Marcus Xavier says: I didnt realize that closing the loop and making into a self-reflective "reality" was a no no[/B]
Satire says: Believe me, compared to some of the other ARGs that are currently running, you did swimmingly. A couple were/are posting directly to the forums, which is a big no-no.
J. Marcus Xavier says: Well I never crossed *that* line
J. Marcus Xavier says: It became pretty clear pretty fast that I couldnt do that.[/B]
Salsaman1991 says: you did awesomely well on that
J. Marcus Xavier says: Rogi Oncorb or someone got kinda mad at me
J. Marcus Xavier says: and yelled at me in my email
J. Marcus Xavier says: and I was like "hmm... okay... maybe I need to pay closer attention."[/B]
Salsaman1991 says: regarding president kerry, had you planned that beforehand?[/i]
J. Marcus Xavier says: no
J. Marcus Xavier says: that was totally you guys.
J. Marcus Xavier says: I saw how the realism factor was turning off some people
J. Marcus Xavier says: so, I was literally driving my car
J. Marcus Xavier says: and thought to myself
J. Marcus Xavier says: I'll make Kerry the president
J. Marcus Xavier says: so I signed on, changed JC's title to be indicative of that
J. Marcus Xavier says: waited for someone to message me and then just got into an argument about it[/B]
Salsaman1991 says: well, it wasn't actually that big of a difference
Darren Knight says: it was a cool inside joke kinda thing
J. Marcus Xavier says: I figured it would be a good way to say "this isnt real" witout breaking the 4th wall[/B]
Darren Knight says: like a cool password for rm.13lights.org
Darren Knight says: yeah

Color Legend:
Darren, green
J. Marcus Xavier (PM), bold blue
Salsaman1991, darkred
Satire, red

EDIT: Thanks Sylvia, that worked great! Colors added for people. I also added the chat from before I got there, courtesy Darren.
EDIT... uh, seven or so: I had to split this into chunks, the BB didn't seem to appreciate the length of this chat. You can see the remainder in my next post, on the next page.
