But despite the lame copy, the word "surreal" stands out for me.

Def: Marked by the intense irrationality of a dream.

The use of word surreal makes me feel like there's definitely another level of somethingness going on here.

I think you guys are looking too deeply at what is already a rather defunct and badly written message. "Surreal" could be a bomb hitting New York, London, or Tokyo. "Surreal" could be your Grandma dying in a car crash. It doesn't necessarily mean anything deeper than that.

"A war re-erupts on Earth between two robotic clans, the heroic Autobots and the evil Decepticons, leaving the fate of mankind hanging in the balance."

That's the description for Transformers, and you didn't see people going "It says re-erupts!!! There must be a volcano in it!!!"

That's because Transformers sucks. The only good thing about it was the 1.18.08 teaser.

I fail to see how it's because Transformers sucks, but ok.

Oh, don't get me wrong, the action sequences were fantastic.

But otherwise... er, well, there was Megan Fox to lighten up the heavy load of cheesy and cliche dialogue and predictable, goofball characters heavily featured in shows such as "Unfabulous," "Ned's Declassified" and "Sweet Life of Drake and Josh."

Or maybe it's just "Drake and Josh."

What are you talking about? I didn't bring up how long you've been on the site, nor did i say anything about finding the sight well after July. That is quite far from the case.

My apologies. I wasn't talking to you at all; I was just addressing the overall topic.

Yes, I can see how a film with the majority of characters in the US Defense Department, the US Army and Megan Fox can have goofball characters like the ones in after-school 'comedies' about loser kids overcoming the system. Wink

I liked Transformers. I thought it was awesome. But, that's just me, I suppose, and I suppose you thinking it was like Drake & Josh is just you, lol.

I don't think there's any hidden meaning in any of the words, to get back on topic. Not in surreal, not in descend -nada, zilch, nothing. As many have pointed out, it's just awful synopsis writing.

If it is written as blandly as that, maybe.

I can tell you that I am now less excited for this movie after reading that.

Honestly, it does not spark any additional interest in the movie for me and it has taken away some of the excitement of finding out the mystery behind it.

Which part has taken away the excitement??? It's just reiterating what we already know.

Some friends have a party, it's interrupted by a huge crazed monster and the movie is the chronicle of that experience as seen on their video camera...

That makes you less excited about the movie?

I'm sorry for harping on this, it just doesn't make any sense to me.

Here is the Text:

"Five Young New-Yorkers throw their friend a going-away party the night a monster the size of a skyscraper descends upon the city.

Told from the point of view of their video camera, the film is a document of their attempt to survive the most surreal, horrifying event of their lives."

I think my issue is with the context and the voice that the summary is written in. It's just that, a film description. It's like going to the library, and pulling up one of those reference cards that give a quick snapshot of what's contained in the book.

I did not expect that kind of summary on a movie promo site and I guess was kinda surprised.

I also suppose I am one of those people that likes to think that JJ has his hands dirty on every aspect of the marketing for this movie. It just felt like something was overlooked when it was written and approved for release. And if that's the case, what else may have been overlooked in the development of this movie? Anyway, it gave me a sinking feeling in my stomach when I read it.

So far everything related to this movie has come at us from weird angles. This is one of a scant few official blurbs which describes the movie and it felt like it was missing something. I don't know how else to explain it.

I showed it to two different co-workers and one liked it and one didn't. Neither of them know anything else about the movie.

Here's my crappy attempt at a rewrite:

"Five Young New-Yorkers throw their friend a going-away party when without warning a monster the size of a skyscraper descends upon the city.

From the point of view of their video camera, the film documents their attempt to survive the most surreal, horrifying event of their lives."

I didn't mean any offense to those that wrote it . . . whomever they are . . . O_o

lol Comeon, the loser fat black guy who likes DDR and is just luckily the best friend of a character AND knows how to hack the US GOVERNMENT? Not to mention the generic students at the government station, and the silly donut quarks involving the fat black guy yet again.

It's like a 30-40 word description. How can it be bad writing?

They just wanted to get a general synopsis up, not win a writing contest.

You guys saying it's ruining the movie for you have to lighten up. There are a lot of high-strung people around here. You're tellingm e the synopsis on the official site would change your mind about the movie?

Why do we have to lighten up? It's just our opinion and far from being high-strung.

And they will definitely not win any writing contests from that description of the film. Probably not gain any more interest either.

Probably not, but, then again, I can't think of too many monster films that would actually win a writing contest either. I just wanna see the SOL get smashed up, personally. Looks cool, even if whoever wrote up the synopsis can't write, it's not like that person made the movie.

Don't forget that there's a writers strike, so they're relying on copy editors who spend most of their time writing 4 - 5 word catch phrases for ads, not synopsis' for movies.
