similar yes It definitly is similar and this seems like a pretty plausible idea. The only thing that makes me think otherwise is that the claw marks on the poster are very distinctive(of what I'm not sure). There are three long gashes. These creatures don't have that. Also, in most(not all) monster movies you have something recognizable or something the movie explains. I don't think many people will look ath that and say "oh its a huge tarigrade". Up until now I didn't even know what those were.
I gotta admit though, I do see a similarity and I think we're on the right track

I don't think the legs match up, you can see where the legs join the body on the monster clip.
It would be cool if these were the rumoured mini monsters though.

Honestly, after watching that clip hundreds of times, I still don't see the legs, I see rubble that makes it look like a leg, I see a smoke trail which seems to make a outline of a leg but I can't say for sure- oh yeah, there's the leg. sorry but I would appreciate it if someone could outline where the legs join the body (and watch out for that smoke trail going up and down).
[EDIT] to add: Is there anywhere that scene is broken down frame by frame in HD. Thx

Dont mean to say we told you so but...... Just joking!! the tardigrade (waterbear ) theory has always been my favourite! the tardigrades in space myself & Red Walrus were discussing way back! and all the info is still pointing in that direction! But I agree with Walrus I dont see it in the trailer! as much as I'd love to! but im still with this being the Key to it all!

Thanx Bud, it may not be the main monster but as far as extremophiles being the sea bed nectar I think there is lots to back that up.

Made a quick anim to show the legs:
edit: The distance from the horizon suggests another joint beyond the knee, but I didn't want to add anything that wasn't there. Ignore the red lines on that one frame, I've scribbled on my only clean copy.

Thanx for the ani, see to me I think that big black area is the face of a building tumbling down not the leg shadow.
But it's only my opinion, I know that I'm outnumbered.

Yeah, half of it is the face of a building, that's what makes it hard to make out, but it becomes clear in the last few frames.

I don't really see the legs like that though, I see more the monster sort of moving to the side to get behind the building and avoid the gunfire.
But that's just me.

Hmm, so do you see the monster facing the camera or away from it?
Regarding the gunfire, I don't think the army scenes are connected to that shot, even though the camera movements before the cuts suggest that they are. You can't see any tracer rounds for example, which the gunfire scenes are full of.

Well, it might be. Same sort of orange lighting anyways.
Plus the camera seems to 'sway' to the monster from the army.
Makes me wonder if this is the only time you get to see the monster in the movie. Which would be bullshit.

Nah, there will be much more than what we see in the trailer.
It's possible we'll never see the whole thing until the end though, who knows?

Well, it's all in the camera's perspective, so how do we know that we'll see the whole thing?
Nobody is just going to stand in front of a giant monster and film it, they'll be running and maybe looking back every now and then for quick glances.
