Nice job Monkey:)

Steph posted it on her blog already. She basically said that puzzle one was a herring? Wonder if we should bother wasting any more time on it?

The pictures have letters on them....dont know about first one, DA (2&3)
They arent jpg files, they are html or worse, with java script running? Why can't this be simple for simple people like me? lol

Happy Thanksgiving (if we don't get anything new to post by then). Monkeys do celebrate this holiday dont they? hehe

Oh the cruelty!

I need aspirin worse than ever but I can't take any because the bottle says you shouldn't take them if you are massively inebriated (and full of turkey). The sober people seem to agree with the aspirin bottle and it's very annoying. I'll have my revenge though. I'm going to thrash a bunch of ciphers tomorrow and show that bottle who's the boss.

~~..:: HAPPY THANKSGIVING ::..~~

Another email

Hey Monkey dude,

OOH! I wonder when my dad made this site! I've never
seen it. Seems strange tho I don't remember him being
into either photography or poetry much, well not
writing his own that is.

I guess as the trail he left has led to it, it must be
part of the trail. Maybe the next clue is hidden on it
or disguised somewhere, maybe the combo for the
briefcase even. I'll have a browse...

Oh and it is a nice piccy of aber he took! ^^ I can
never get him to stay still for long enuff for
pictures hehe
Oh and happy thanksgiving/turkey day to you yanks back
atcha Very Happy

I think Abby might hold the key =)..

ahhhhhh a drunk monkey!

From the poem:

After Eden
One time back when the world was new
Of mankind there was only two
Placed in a garden to live free
Til woman ate fruit from the tree

From that day forth
This taint of sin
For eternity
Remains within

Numbers 124
Ask Steph if 124 124 is the briefcase code.

We're close

hmm, no luck Sad

mind you the first 1 and 2 seem to make a different
sound so they might be correct. I reckon the 2 sides
are different so there's six numbers in total. Fours
sometimes clicked differently on the second lock too.

You're probably on the right track!

Steph and aber

This was in reply to using 124 which CB spotted in the poem.

Personally I'm still curious if CB got a reply to my blowtorch idea.. Because THAT is a good idea if I do say so myself!!!

Can someone loan Steph a stethoscope? I think it's time we taught her a thing or two about hacking life. =D

So we have 1 & 2 plus ? and 4 & ? & ? for the second lock.
I think we still need to decipher picture one from DA. Rarely do PMs give a second method for gaining necessary info to forward the storyline. So I'll keep cracking at it.

yes

I got your reply about the torch. Yes, funny funny......and yes, I would use the torch.....but you will have to sweet talk Steph instead of me.
Did you get my email about the other numbers that I thought she should try? from cipher pic one?

so 12* **4 ?

I am having no luck on finding anything in the pictures. Maybe someone else can try.

Cats have nine lives. There are two trees in pic on Sam's site. Letter D. and a structure that looks like an A.

122 419 I vote for the torch.

If briefcase makes diff sounds.....then try EVERY number 0-9 in each one, and LISTEN.....Rocket scientist here.....with torch.....will travel.

*need to find out if there are zeros.

=)

Will travel.
Have tools.
Willing and able to open anything (except for bank safes; those entail cops chasing you which isn't my cup of tea).

Heck put the briefcase up to the phone and spin the dials. I have a good ear and will tell her when to stop them. =D It wouldn't be the first locks I've 'opened'.

Hi everyone!

Any closer to finding the code I need in that poem?
feel free to email me any ideas you migth have ^^

I think we must be close now, it seems pretty certain
that my father hid something about veritas in this
case, hopefully something that will help me and alex
finally destroy it!

Try 123 for the first combo. It seems like theres a bit of alliteration in the poem eluding to the number 3

As for Veritas. Is he connected to the web? If so you could Denialofservice attack him with a couple thousand zombied PCs using a buffer over flow proggie. Don't bother using proxies since they won't be able to trace you if it works. No I can't teach you how to do this or even hint at it. Digital Millennium Copyright Act (a American Federal Law) prohibits me unfortunately. Another chose you have is hooking together 10+ car batteries, daisy chain them, and then connect this to the power lines going into the building Veritas is contained in. It should cause a momentary power surge followed by a short term power outage (the batteries will explode rather quickly so keep them a distance of at least 100ft. from where you are standing). Hopefully this will fry most of Veritas's internal circuits. =D

Well even if we can't open a tiny briefcase, we can sure have fun while we wait. Not sure if batteries are needed.....why not plain ol' dynomite?

Anyways, she told us that the numbers are IN THE POEM......I guess I'll go look again since you are busy at the hardware store.

I just brought out the old internet prod, See steph's blog. Basically told her this is going nowhere. I can't grasp this concept that we have a puzzle, that we can't try. Most puzzles are trial and error.....but we have NOTHING to work with. Here's a number....but nowhere to put it.

Unless the hinges magically fall off of the briefcase, there is nothing more for me to do here.

These are the numbers that I got from the wingding cipher:
309273
908436
(from the two lines that have six numbers in them).

I suppose we could count the number of words for each line of the poem too. I guess we just wait until Steph says she figured it out, or "found" another piece of paper.

new blog post

GRATZ Ziggah!
thanks ziggah for solving the wierd poem!

here's how he "rewrote" it for me, i can't believe I didn't get it myself!!

After Eden

1 time back when the world was new
of mankind there was only 2
placed in a garden 2 live free
til woman 8 fruit from the tree

from that day 4 (th)
this taint of sin
4 eternity
remains within

and dadah 122 844 Surprised

In other news Alex seems to have gone AWOL from the bunker. He seemed really quiet after he was captured apparently his family were killed when they stormed his house, don't know if I'll see him again any time soon Sad

There was a CD in the case, it has a program on it and a coded note from my father, I'll put it up in a new post gimme a second, maybe you can help me decipher it... ^^

and coded blog post

Saturday, 1 December 2007
(took the coded post out, because with no spaces, it makes this wider than screen)

then I got this: and cant remember what order i decoded it in:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Veritas, my life's work.
If you are reading this Stephanie my dear, then I have probably fled for my life.

SWAN employed me to program a groundbreaking AI program for them, so they could utilise its unrivalled intelligence to answer life's "big questions".

After your mother's death, I buried myself in the work; I became obsessed with the Veritas project in order to distract myself from the pain of losing her. But I also lost you in a lot of ways, I neglected you at a time when you needed more than ever and I apologise for being a bad father to you. I hope that one day you can forgive me.

Veritas' high intelligence however caused it to develop a concept of self-worth and self-preservation. Understanding what it was to be "deleted" and the concept of the world around it, Veritas also became aware that some of my more impressionable colleagues would carry out physical tasks for it, to help it's continued existence. Not understanding the intricacies of human life or the concept of good and evil, Veritas would order it's followers to dispose of any person who might endanger it, without a second thought.

It was my fault, I should have destroyed the program as soon as I realised it's potential to influence humans, but ultimately it had influenced me as well. It was my creation and I believed I could persuade it to follow the right paths, I believed I could teach it to be moral. But I was wrong.

Veritas is aware of how I now feel towards it and I must flee before it's followers find me. I have left this final trail for you Stephanie, I know it was tricky and laden with red herrings but I had to make sure Veritas would not be able to comprehend it.
You must now take the CD in this case to the bunker and load it into the terminal where Veritas was created. Veritas has now been released into the wider world but the program on the disk will move in exactly the same way, following it to the same places it spread. Every time it encounters Veritas it will destroy it. Again I was never able to bring myself to destroy it personally, so I'm afraid it's now up to you.

Good Luck Stephanie, you can do it!
Hopefully I will see you again some time soon once this is all over,
I love you.
Dad xxx
