Amboy News 7-12-04: Guns Fired

Guns Fired at Territorial Days Event, one dead, child injured

by Melody Heller, Amboy Monthly

There were several insidences this weekend at the Territorial Days Celebration. Saturday, the gun of Marshall Banks discharged in the parking lot and blew out the tire on John McKenny's truck. Mr. Banks was ticketed with the illegal discharge of a weapon. When Officer Ralston attempted to take the weapon from Mr. Banks, a scuffle ensued and Mr. Banks was arrested. Mr. Banks is a member of the local branch of the Restorers Militia organization.

Sunday, during the fireworks display, another weapon discharged, the bullet ricocheting off a steel garbage can and injuring Bobby Walters. The large crowd which had gathered began to scatter, several people being knocked down and trampled in the process. The owner of the gun which fired, Gary "Junior" Peterson, tried to check on the boy, but was prevented by several nearby witnesses. Mr. Peterson was so distraught that he pulled his revolver and shot himself fatally as people attempted to stop him. Mr. Peterson was also a member of the Restorers organization.

The child and several of the trampling victims were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

After the incident on Sunday, the police officers, requested all firearms be turned over to the police or removed from the Park by their owners. Several fights ensued with five individuals arrested for resisting an officer. Three of the five are registered members of the Restorers organization, the other two are known to have attended at least one metting of the group.

Mayor Dawson had this to say about the incident, "I will be meeting with the city council this week and discussing asking the State Governor to send a National Guard unit to help keep the peace in our town. The Restorers may have started with the best intentions, but they have turned into a lawless group of men that are harming innocent people. They must be stopped."

Chief Markel, had this to say, "Everyone should rest assured we will be investigating the incidents of the weekend. As is the rest of the community, I am shocked that Junior (Peterson) was involved, and very saddened that we were not able to prevent him from taking his own life. I am asking that everyone, including the Restorers, lock their guns back up, to prevent further harm to innocents like Bobby Walters. This is a travesty that could have been avoided."

The funeral service for Mr. Peters will be held in private, with a memorial service for the public at a later time.

1. All guns are always loaded.

2. Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.

3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target.

4. Always be sure of your target.

There are 98,000 hits for 'four rules firearm safety'. Maybe someone should forward one to the Restorers.

Guns do not "just go off". #$*&% like that drives me insane.

I think Steve thought this quote from the end of the article, as posted above, was about him:
Quote:
The funeral service for Mr. Peters will be held in private, with a memorial service for the public at a later time.

But no, it's just yet another typo, as the decedent is referred to as "Peterson" everywhere else. It's okay, Steve! You're not dead yet; you still have time to write me into your will! Very Happy

And this, dear folks, is exactly why Quality Assurance is essential. Spellchecking and proofreading should be an obvious requirement to most sane PMs. Players are bound enough to get sidetracked by tangential discussions without giving them countless trivial errors to find patterns in as well.

[And for those of you who weren't around during Lockjaw, the PMs had their own little in-joke by inserting a real-world name on that there obituary Steve posted.]

Hey

And while we're nitpicking - I think players should be careful not to mention this forum to in-game characters, and PMs should ignore pretty much anything their characters may hear/read about them since it's supposed to be an out-of-game forum.

Universes could implode.

It's been mentioned thanks. Actually mentioned, discussed, beaten to death, kicked around and beaten to death again. But it has been proven that this topic, like an eternal flame, or more probably, like those joke birthday candles that keep relighting, will never be extinquished. Laughing

For the record, if you are referring to the chat with Marcus yesterday, he mentioned the "VERY public place." In response, I referred to posting in a public place when I was trying to clarify what he meant when he said he something like "this is why I don't trust you with information." I gave him a choice among the following (as all three were mentioned in the chat): fearing my stupidity, thinking I worked for Alecia and objecting to my posting in a public place. I hate to say "he brought it up" as it is so childish, but, sadly, that is exactly what I am saying.

This broo haha started when SlyFox posted in an Ideltech forum about Rose's posting of the card solve in a 'very public forum'.

The start of this mess was not Rose. We all know that this area is suppose to be off limits to the IU universe (clears throat - Slyvester Fox, please remember this).

The problem lies in whereas Marcus now saw something about it, and responded to it (since the info was posted in IU).

So error to 1) Sly Fox for posting about it, and 2) whomever is 'playing' Marcus for responding to it.

My IU personna is trying to ignore it.

Thank goodness someone cleared that up. I was confused. I get confused easily. Was I talking about something? I want a cookie.

My origin post in full from IU was as follows
Slyfox wrote:
I read elsewhere Wink that Rose of the Restorers has the solution to Mellody's map puzzle. From this I assume that the original note was not left by the Restoreres. I also deduce that the fboca site will now be general knowledge to everyone involved with the search for TOBI since the link between the map and the solution was revealed in a very open forum.

I accept that I probably overstepped the line line a bit. Sorry everyone.

EDITED because The Creator has now dealt with this issue raised in the rest of this post

Sorry, what are you talking about? Just if anyone wonders, I haven't heard anything from "The Creator" about anything. I have to say I feel a bit on the defensive in this game lately and more than a little paranoid after all the accusations that have been hurled my way. So I just want everyone to know that, whatever this was about, it wasn't me this time. Smile

another point

Also, what I don't understand is that Marcus told me someone I trusted tricked me--was this just another lie? Why were you guys solving this too if Marcus left it for Melody as a trap for everyone else? Was he just lying about the whole damn thing so we would stop working on it? Now I am even more confused.

Rose
