[META] Just throwing this out there

Hey, usually a lurker over at http://cloverfieldclues.blogspot.com/ and I've seen you guys talked about a bit, so I figured I'd put this up over here.

Lets try to make this more than a game, but help make it REAL. No, I don't want New York falling apart, but neither Tagruato nor Slusho! have a wikipedia article? Whats most internet users main source of fast information?

The thing is, don't put ANYWHERE that the article is about a company in a viral marketing game.

With the latest notes from The Whistle Blower in Slusho! packages, I added another "Famous Whistle Blower" to the wiki page. Its the last one there. Smile

I see it being done a bit already with the The Effect's blog, and I think we could make this even more fun for ourselves and for the guys running the thing.

Someone with more thought than I, perhaps, could even post on http://wikileaks.org with Tagruato information we find....

Just, aheh, a little idea I had late at night ^^>

Well yes, gamejacking is bad, but thats not what I'm saying here.

Like The Effect is doing, take information we already have, and spread it. Don't add to it, don't change it, just put it in other places.

Take that out of there, dude. Wikipedia is a real thing for real information. You already confused someone in another thread.

Putting information into Wikipedia about Cloverfield, the game, the movie, and all this stuff we're talking about in our blogs and on this site isn't a bad idea. If it's done the right way.

What the OP is asking is just plain wrong. Don't mislead the public and confuse everyone. We're not looking to create another War of the Worlds situation.

There are proper channels when creating Wiki entries. For instance, there are pages for fiction. Just check out the Alias pages.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sydney_Bristow

"Sydney Anne Bristow (born 17 April 1975), played by Jennifer Garner, is the main character on the television series Alias."

It clearly states that Sydney Bristow isn't real. If you want to create something similar to that, fine. But there's no need to create a Wiki entry stating that there really is a corporation named Tagruato, etc. Just wrong.

OPer admits: Bad idea.

Its why I don't stay up late anymore, I get bad ideas.

But change a few things- I still find it silly that Slusho! doesn't have a wikipage. It doesn't need to be "ingame", but Wikipedia isn't just about basic knowledge anymore, its about culutral knowledge and well, and a movie is definitly culture. Or something. It made sense before I said it.

*goes off and becomes amere lurker*

edit> sidenote to the people that said "take that down!".... this is Wikipedia, you could'a done it too >>

The thing you have to worry about with Wikipeda is "notability": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Notability

A topic is presumed to be notable if it has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject.

If an article is not deemed "notable" by an editor, it will be marked for speedy deletion. This is done to prevent every person, garage band, etc from creating their own page.

Cloverfield is certainly notable enough, but you might have a hard time making a case for anything else Cloverfield related, except maybe Slusho.

I think with the Alias and Heroes connections, it may be notable enough for it's own page. At the very least, it should have it's own section in the Cloverfield page.

People people, you speak about problems...

I've opened for 2 weeks a Cloverfield entry in German wikipedia and wanted to post only real facts about the movie (no speculations and stuff). I wanted to tell about the whole great viral project JJ Abrams want to play with us.

I've got support from another wikipedians, but one day I've got the message from an wiki-admin of Movie-Section: "the movie comes 2008, so we have now 2007. Your texts are pure speculation and we'll delete your entry".

Well, I was a little bit shocked, because I wanted to write only the known information about the viral Alternate Reality Game named Cloverfield...

It's online till now, but this "Sword of Damocles" hangs over my article...

Why do I tell this? Wikipedia became very sensitive place, so perhaps we shouldn't stir up the admins hornets, so let's write only the real things in...

Not because of the admins, but because of our own creditability.
