I found another translation of the letter which seems to be a little clearer although I am not sure it translate everything you guys did.

LEVEL 1 EMPLOYEE SECURITY

THE ISSUE BEING IN COMMUNICATION OUTSIDE THE SITE.

2007 November 24th

DUE TO THE RECENT INCIDENT WHICH HAS OCCURED, IT HAS BECOME NECESSARY TO FORWARD ALL COMMUNICATIONS OUTSIDE OF THE FACILITY THROUGH THE CENTRAL COMMUNICATION CENTER. OUT GOING MESSAGES WILL NOT BE SENT UNTIL GOING THROUGH A LEVEL 1 SECURITY CHECK.

ANY EMPLOYEE WORKING OVERTIME WILL BE APPOINTED A SPECIFIC AREA FOR LIVING QUARTERS.

FAILURE TO REPORT ANY SUSPICIOUS ACTS TO THE CHUAI MANAGEMENT WILL BE IN DIRECT VIOLATIONS OF COMPANY POLICY AND WILL DEALT WITH ACCORDINGLY WITHOUT EXCEPTION.

No, that is the take one guy had on my translation, though it swerves from the actual document on certain details. For example, the second paragraph makes it seem like people get to get in hours and sleep there too, when in the real translation, it is implied that people are forced to say in appointed facilities.

It may not seem like much difference, but trust me, it definitely shows the extent Tagruato's willing to go to punish those like the Whistle Blower.

Didn't the report say it was mailed to him?

and then this memo woulld have gone out once Dr. Abe's report came out, Tag felt the need to check all mail.

well thats what i feel i guess.

i guess its matter of whether you correlate the incident with the note on the back but i do connect the two.. so ive got to ask the question to you tstrel of what "good people gone missing" has to do with the dr. abe receiving kaitei no mitsu through the mail?

But the 'real translation' is full of grammatical errors, I mean:

"In addition, working hard/employment rusted overtime?"

What the hell does that mean?

Thats my thoughts I presented over on the thread where the translation got worked out. I don't think they know who is leaking info at Tagruato

My explanation is only for the memo, as I think it was lying around and used as a scrap after the fact to tell the "American" of the troubles of the drilling station in a hurry.

my idea of the timeline for both sides of the torn paper
1 insider sends Dr Abe the slusho!
2 doc publishes report
3 Tag gets questions about report from investors, works up memo and web update
4 Memo gets sent to every Tag property, is on a bunch of desks.
5 Lockdown goes into effect quickly, some good people are JAILED (gone missing)also at many of the properties.
6 It HAS to be a slusho! employee that sends the handwritten part of the memo, but one that knows SOMETHING has happened at the Drilling station.

Its my version of spec, its probably in the wrong place alltogether, but does have specifically to do with only this peice of paper so...eh?

on #6 would they ship shirts from a Drilling Platform? thats my explanation for HAS.

Just a few notes on some things people were asking about:

貫: Is one of the characters we weren't sure of, so I wouldn't read too much into it. Speaking for myself, I was working from the first image posted of the left half of the memo, and transcribing it to text format using a handwriting recognition utility for Japanese text. Half the time I had to zoom in really close and draw something close to what I could see, and then try to find the most likely candidate among the program's suggestions. And also, I barely know Japanese in general, and hardly any kanji.

For perspective: At one point, the To: line read "Level one kidney cat membrane members". (Yeah, sorry about that.) We did the best we could.

There are a lot of typos/nonsensical phrases because those of us working on the translation know hardly any Japanese, and had to use translation tools a lot. But I'm pretty confident we got the general idea, which if I'm not mistaken is: A memo dated Nov. 24 and sent out from a "Judicial Committee" or "Board of Trustees" at Tagruato, to Level 1 employees, on the subject of communication outside of the work site. Paragraph one says that because of a recent incident, all mail destined outside of the facility has to be screened first. Paragraph two is about employees having to stay in appointed facilities. Paragraph three is a warning that failing to report violations of this policy puts you at risk of discipline as well.

McPhearson, can I suggest pasting the full Japanese text into the Google document as well? That way, if someone sees it who IS fluent in Japanese, they can see what we were working from and suggest revisions. And we need to make sure we get all the revisions we did to the kanji in there as well; I know our first restored block of text had the "kidney cat membrane" bit still in. I guess I could go gather that all up now...

Ah, but who better to give the gift that says "blow me!"?

Not that it's necessary as I'd say we know what we need from the letter now, but could you post a bigger/better version of your torn letter? Good for posterity and maybe the wiki if nothing else.

Good idea, Julia.

I wanted to say thanks again as well. A+ effort, especially in a new recruit. We'd probably still be working on this without your help.

Eh, I think you're giving me too much credit there, but thanks.

I second the call for the best-possible resolution scans of these letters. We could finally get the few questionable characters, and like Mr. Toasty said, it'd be nice to have for the record.

Okay, here's what I *think* is our latest version of the Japanese text. I changed a couple of the characters from the left side because I found more likely candidates. And everywhere you see a |*|, that's meant to represent where the torn edge is. And the big watermark in the center of the page, which I believe Kozmo translated as "Top Secret", is at the end.

[EDIT: Moving all this to the next page.]

Hey new poster here, i came through the 1-18-08news.com site.

with all of these new things coming in the slusho packaging, the hidden messages.

could that possibly mean that Tagruato is holding the monster there?
i mean i personally think that Ganu is out for revenge, but is really covering it up through deep sea "drilling". I think thats where the monster is found, its destroys the station and goes to NYC, but NYC and why not anywhere else beats me.
