I'm fairly new to these forums as well (although not new to forums in general), so I'll welcome you here and not give you a trout. Your first post, a new topic at that, has been viewed more than 70 times with only one response.

I believe that's because the whole "Monster in the Poster" theory has been thrown around a few times. I've included a couple of instances for your reference.

Oh, and I don't think that's a monster. I think it's just a bunch of smoke and debris from the attack. Just my .02.

Anyways, this has been discussed ad nauseum before, and no solid answers came out of the discussions.

Yeah... both those links are pointing at different parts of the poster. I made a smaller cutout of exactly what I am talking about... it is darker than all of the smoke in the area and seems to be in front of the light of the explosion. To me it looks like a hand or something and bunch of tentacles coming out. Smoke doesn't make dark spidery projections like that in any picture I have ever seen.

yeah I see what you mean, but it's hard to tell what it is in a still picture.

If you look here:

you can see similar shapes, obvioulsly the scale is much bigger, but you get the idea.

It looks a bit like the foot I see in the trailer, which I still think is there, even if nobody else does Very Happy

Eh, smoke doesn't travel up in that manner, mark my words that is some sort of monster protrusion!
I can only hope the non-believers change their ways before judgment day 1-18-08 Laughing

Edit: to answer your question about where i got that poster i used the google to do an image search for "cloverfield poster" on very large image size

I'd agree with you on the "billowing" thing if there wasnt such spindly detail to the darker smoke. The lighter stuff in the background looks like it is billowing because it is more solid.
Perhaps JJ put that in the poster to &*%$ with people like me who look too much into pictures, such as those who saw the hair goblin:
