[SPEC] Something in the movie poster I noticed. (AGAIN) Ok, we all know that because the trail of waves in the water are leading up to the city, the monster obviously came from in the water, tore the statues head off, blah blah blah.
What I don't get is how he(it) managed to tear the head off of the Statue of Liberty, without getting ANY feet marks or some sort on the base of the statue. He would have had to climb on the statue or stand on the base of the statue to get the head off, and there should should at least be some sort of scratch on the lower half of the statue, but there isn't.
So unless he like, stood on the bottom of the water or something (which would make him insanely big, bigger then possible) there's something we're missing.

Here's the poster for reference:
No scratches on bottom.

Or put it down to artistic license.
It's possible even the artist(s) hadn't seen the monster.

Um, it's already "bigger than possible", why would this make any difference?

Because the ocean is very VERY deep. If the monster was as tall enough as to stand on the ocean floor and still be able to move and knock the statues head off, he would have made a much bigger entrance into NYC.

I don't think the ocean is too deep when you're as close to the shore as the SoL is.

If you compare the size of the claw marks to most beings with hands, paws, or claws you'll notice that they are pretty large. We can't see the whole base or the island beneath, so we probably aren't even seeing where the monster was standing when it did that ripping off. That hand/paw/claw is big , and this monster is HUGE . The SoL (as pointed out before in similar discussions) is at least 305 feet tall to be able to achieve ripping off Lady Liberty's head, and considering the downward swipe it's considerably taller.

If it was big enough to do all those things, then couldn't it have just stepped on the buildings in NY?

A story is about 10 ft. tall, I've heard, and the SoL is 305 ft tall, so about 30 stories. There are building a lot taller than that in New York City....but he could still stomp on most of them, true.

On 1-18-08 people will stop complaining about the torch of the SoL being closed, eh?

Ah, thanks Susho, that does explain things.
I thought the base was smaller.

Wow, that looks like it coulod be the size of the monster, but I'm not saying the monster is a toad. If it was, I would just, well, I don't think I could explain what I'd do on unFiction.

It's hard to phathom a creature of this magnitude. I have a hard enough time believing that blue whales exist due to sheer size.. if something 400.. hell, maybe even 500 feet tall actually existed, then it makes sense that New York is left in COMPLETE ruins.
The most interesting question revolving around the monster and its girth is how it is dealt with, if at all. I don't think something that big could be brought down with anything other than a nuke (which I know has already been discussed).
But if this creature really is as big as all clues lead us to believe, you have to think the Statue of Liberty's head is probably the size of a softball in comparison (if not smaller).

Good point guys. I would like to add that if the monster were as big as that toad its hands must be very small. I understand that the toad was a joke but it makes for a nice size comparison to what we may see. Look at the size of the claw marks on the SoL in the poster. If the monster were to be the size of the toad then it would have chucked the whole SoL into the city with ease. It's obvious the poster was just an artist's imagination of the damage caused by a huge Grumpypants. It would be cool if it were as big as the toad in the above picture but highly unlikely.
Here are some size facts for the SoL I found online:
Foundation of pedestal to torch (1984 Survey): 306' 8" (93.47m)
Heel to top of head: 111' 1" (33.86m)
With those measurements it probably stood on the foundation when it tore her head off. I think our monster is about 300-350 feet tall. Just my opinion.
