Clownnation's TIDOWAVE tshirt

Here is my design. Look close at the United States in the Earth, and you'll see Tagruato's real motivation!

I created the document in Adobe Illustrator.
I used the font "Downcome" (a great free font!) for the text, it is already nasty looking.
To get the "rough/weathered" effect around the border I found a simple "texture" source image (a quick Google search will come up with many results that will work if you don't have access to an image library).

Then I copied and pasted it into Illustrator. (I had to release a clipping mask or two then, but that's not important.) Make a new layer at the time to keep the file organized.

Illustrator CS3 has a nice feature under Object > Live Trace.
I selected the object & went to Object > Live Trace > Tracing Options and modofied the options till I was happy. I used just black & white to keep it simple.

After that I deleted the white ares and had the black areas left, then I selected all of them & converted them to white & moved them on top of the image layer till I thought it looked good.

- -- -- -- --- -- -- - -

After I was done with the image I opened the image with Photoshop & cropped off the white areas so that it didn't have all the extra white space & sved it as the image you see here.

If you are working in Photoshop exclusively I would assume the process to go like follows:
- Find grunge image
- drop in PS document as new (top) layer
- adjust curves
- desaturate
- adjust curves & contrast
- (you should now have a b/w image)
- "select all" on that layer
- copy selection
- select layer to apply effect to
- create new layer mask
- invert layer mask if necessary

Here is the image without the "grunge":

Kino, your hammer thing gave me an idea. What if there's like a guy at the gas pump, and he's filling up, but instead of a pump, he's getting it from a globe?

Wow, there's a lot of talent here! These are all very impressive. That Banksy version of the Vettriano painting is brilliant - I gotta get a framed copy of that to put up on my wall.

All the thsirt ideas are great. BRAVO! Worshippy

The more I see amazing stuff like this from posters here, and read all the creative speculation, the more I think the PM's are just throwing out ideas and waiting to see what people here do with them - I wouldn't be surprised if they hadn't fully worked out the backstory yet; they're going to wait and see what we come up with and cobble together something from that. Wink

Question: I'm not into graphics design so I don't know much about the software, etc, but is InDesign a tool that someone would actually be using to design a tshirt logo? I know it's part of the Adobe Creative suite, but something just struck me as odd about that comment asking if the took InDesign files?

InDesign is a tool I use everyday, but seldom would I use it for designing a t-shirt. I guess it is plausable, but I would use Illustrator before InDesign myself. I guess you could combine elements better in a few instances, but not many. I think that the posted of that comment was just trying to "look educated".

(I'm a graphics designer)
