The $76 Million Dollar Question: Where is the TobI program?

by Melody Heller, Amboy Monthly

It is the question on everyone's lips. The program that was one the basis for hiring 450 employees at Ideltech has gone missing. Numerous groups are searching for it and making plans for what they will do once they acquire it.

It was a crushing blow to the new Ideltech employees when two of the company founders were killed during the night, and the Ideltech building was destroyed only hours after they were to start work. Many of the former employees have continued to work with the remaining founder, Marcus Thesburg. Mr. Thesburg, wanting to carry out his friend and cofounder's last request, has decided to find the remainder of the program and delete it. Mr. Thesburg is currently in hiding, fearing for his life due to the suspicious nature of the deaths of his friends and co-founders.

One of Ideltech's strongest opposing groups is The Restorers, which has also recently received a hard blow. It was headed by Thad Tidwell, who was shot to death June 27th. Their opposition stems from the fact that they feel TobI to be an intrusive program much like FBI's Carnivore, that would disrupt private citizens' right to privacy. The death of their beloved leader has them literally up in arms and seeking vengeance. Currently the group is headed by Mr. Sin Vraal, who has a bit of work on his hands to calm his members down.

Splintering off from Ideltech is Dr. William Roddington Ph.D. Dr. Roddington hopes to locate the TobI Program files and continue the work of Mr. Manson, Mr. Williams and Mr. Thesburg, and study the program. This has put him at odds with his former student, Mr. Thesburg. Dr. Roddington is convinced that the TobI program has exceeded it's original programming parameters, possibly approaching close to sentience. Dr. Roddington desires to study the program and how it interacts with the world in order to assist it in fulfilling the early promise of his students' work.

One other company is seeking the missing program, Omniscient Eyes. Headed by Alecia Church, this company initially approached Ideltech with a $76 Million dollar offer to buy the company out, and raised it to $105 Million. Originally a company that chose to operate quietly to provide information to the world's governments, it's buy out attempt brought it to this reporter's attention. There are many unsubstantiated rumors to this company's involvement in Ideltech's recent woes. Rumor also has it that at one point the company offered close to $300 Million Dollars to the person or persons who could secure the TobI program and bring it to them.

As far as this reporter has been able to verify, none of these groups are certain where Marty Manson hid the programming code. It is a small program of approximately 22 Kb, in today's world of multifunctional programming in such a small size is rare. TobI's functionality comes from the Genetic Algorithms and TobI's ability to tap other programs to assist it in its search for information, providing for feats that a program of TobI's size normally would not be able to accomplish.

The Amboy Monthly will keep you updated with the latest information on the search as it becomes available.
