I used to be a Environmental and Resource Analyst, charged with monitoring the amount of intake of the deep sea petroleum/Kaitei no mitsu [Seabed's Nectar]. When I first started out at the Jimmu Station things seemed promising, things were as they should be. Then in 1993 I was transported to the Itoku Station where I would do the same position, monitoring the amount of resource we were excavating, but with a higher pay grade. As the years progressed, I noticed a sharp rise in Kaitei no mitsu we were pulling from our earth. I called the Tagruato Corporation headquarters to report it and they simply said to pretend it wasn't happening. Pretend it wasn't happening? I began writing letters to the G.E.F. [Global Environmental Facility] but it seemed, and I felt as though my letters weren't getting through. Nothing could stop Itoku from draining the region of this precious resource. Until the accident in the summer of 1997. Many people were injured and some even died. I don't know how it happened, but the lower levels of the facility were literally destroyed, but I bet you won't find that on the Tagruato website. Eventually, before the end of the year, I put in my resignation simply stating that family matters were causing my abrupt renunciation.

yeah, that was something else I noticed. I just found it almost too ironic about the season and the year. How fast do you this thing is?

So I went through the other articles and stuff on that page and this one from TIDO is just there. No description whatsoever as to why it is there or anything. and it doesn't seem to fit in at all with anything else.

***EDIT*** Ahh strike all that, he has the Cloverfield Monster on "The Office" article up as well. Stephen must be a Cloverhead!!

Wow, a mirror site. I am convinced this ARG isn't going anywhere. I am also convinced that it was never designed to do anything more than promote and create buzz for the film. Would explain the months without any activity, not to mention the seemingly hurried nature of the website creation. None of the clues have seemed to really lead anywhere, more webpages, more buzz.

If this "game" is going somewhere, it better do it fast. 1-18-08 is now pretty close.

Maybe something useful will happen on the 9th.

I would have to say if that date passes without much action, then the game is over.

Might not be "going" anywhere, but it's had all of us and the media talking about it for the past four months... Isn't that enough of a success, from a marketing standpoint at least?

BTW: Just posted on TIDOWave... Although they might be moderated, post did go up immediately. For an IG site, that's unimaginable, even if it does eventually get removed.

*EDIT*: Didn't notice they have an RSS feed...

Sure yeah, a success for the film, for its marketing, but for us? For entertainment value? For the future of ARG/viral type marketing like this? Not so much.

I think the high number of game jacks indicates two things. One, people really are into this concept. Two, the game designers let things flow too slowly for their target market's tastes.

I think its a good bet that this film will seriously underwhelm its backstory. I mean in the eyes of many of the players.

The whole monster via hand held camera thing just strikes me as recipe for disaster. Not creatively, mind you, but in word of mouth. You can still find people who refuse to see Bourne 2 or 3 because of the trailer for Bourne 2.

Honestly, if this film only cost $30 million, the point of all this is to ensure a big opening on a usually uninspired date. I mean they just need a Big open and cost is basically recovered. You can figure to recoup plenty on DVD and Cable/Sat, so $20 mil should get it done nicely.

Maybe they have decided to cut the ARG budget, due to tracking indicating that the ARG is not generating the kind of hits to ensure a big open like that. Or maybe they feel that the gamejack debate is doing a better job generating buzz than their original plot.

The thing is, I don't think the site is Out of Game. I do think its a pile of junk. I feel the person responsible for that site is insulting the game players. I enjoy digging for clues, and all that. But if I wanted to jump into a dumpster, I'd get my PI license. I wish they'd treat the site with the level of interest that I would. Or that they'd hire me to run their game.

Not to getting into the OOG/IG debate, I would pretty much agree with everything you said there. There are a lot of problems with this so-called game. As you stated, it's too slow, hence the gamejacks (players are bored). But for them, it'll be a big payday and damn those internet geeks. I doubt JJ even has anything to do with this at this point.

Assuming he ever really did.

I suppose a lot of it could be made up for by a big 'ol shocker in The Box. Maybe they're just betting on that big surprise carrying though the holidays.

they must be different mailboxes and im pretty sure they have different messages though i dont speak japanese...

Nothing from 01 to 18 ( which we all know ), then :

I stopped there cause im tired of this whole thing...

i have a feeling they could be different companies in the same building since you always end up reaching that reception girl's voicemail...

so if anyone who speaks japanese can do those calls and tell us more about the messages thatd be great i guess
