Ok, so it's a landline in Seattle. I thought maybe Steve was trying to get in touch with us but now I'm not so sure. I'll try to record the audio to my Mac and see if I can make anything out.

There's several Boeing facilities in Seattle and (IIRC) a military base. Of course, the fact that it's a Seattle landline may be OOG.

Ok, there is a LOT of stuff that I cannot make out. Maybe someone with software better than iMovie (or more patience and better ears) can fill in some of what I can't understand. This is what I have so far:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
He will ___ towards the marsh... though he may not know the power of man...do not bother with ___ because they will only make it worse. You will not be...the last chance you...if you have not taken the medicine do so now.

Sorry I couldn't get more!

I have been lightly following this story for a while, and I live up at the University of Washington, but yeah I don't think any real life confrontatios in seattle will be necessary. There are temporary phone number generators around and such... just throwing that in

file?

Faeryqueen (or anyone else): do you have a recorded version of this message that you could post here? I can't record it myself but I have a pretty darn good audio program on my computer.

Well since I don't have an audio program and I didn't know how to only record audio on iMovie it's a video file. It's pretty silly, I just held my phone up to the microphone/slash camera. So it's a video of the AT@T logo on my phone Embarassed So if you can use a video file on your audio program I would be happy to upload it here. Just let me know and I'll do it as soon as I get home from work (5:30 Pacific time).

feriwiccan, I tried to record it. It's not very loud but maybe you can do something with it. you can download it from this link. Gotta go be back in a few hours.

OK, I downloaded a pretty sophisticated sound file program (or at least the free trial version), and after converting the file to the .wav format (since .wma files aren't supported by the program's trial version, and I didn't feel like shelling out $40), this is what I came up with.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
He will direct you towards the marsh.

Look at your map, though he may not know about the power plant.

Do not bother with doctors, they will only make it worse.

Do not be afraid.

The best, Jeff, you found me.

If you have not taken the medicine, do so now.

I'm not so sure about line 5, but that's the best sentence I could come up with using my rudimentary ability to manipulate that file.

I'll also attach the .wav file I worked with and cleaned up. I removed the "if you want to send a fax" portion, and reversed it, but that's about it. I'm sure someone who actually knows what they're doing can do much more!

"power plant", "Power of man", what's the difference? Bang Head

I'm glad someone else was able to understand more. It was lots of fun reversing it though!

Also, on his double letters...he's doubled As and Ts...

Could Gs and Cs be far behind? Maybe the "virus" he's contracted is somehow altering his DNA. Consciously he's not aware of the double letters, but his subconscious could be pointing us towards that.

Whatver the reason, this much is clear: Jeff needs to take that pill! I've a hunch on what might be causing his body to change, but no real evidence. I never thought I'd say this, but I really want to see what he vomited.

Some quick Googling shows a very promising power plant NNW of Cedar Rapids, in Palo, IA. It's surrounded by parks and wildlife areas on the banks of the Cedar River, and it's main access road is called Palo Marsh Road. I know we have lots of markers on that map, but if it's going to be near Jeff's home town, that one sure looks likely.

The power plant he's referring to is probably a nuclear one. Iowa has a good number of them. A lot of nuclear engineering jobs are in the mid-west for that reason. I don't doubt that this has something to do with nuclear power, or some kind of mutation from nuclear power exposure. Even if Jeff doesn't work in a plant, if any waste was dumped near where Jeff lives, he could have been exposed to really high levels of radiation. It would explain the weird feedback on the camera and the black trees.

EDIT: I just googled it and apparently there's only one reactor in Iowa, but there are contracts to build more in the near future that may or may not already be underway.

I just read through the power plant website a little, and it claims it's the only nuclear plant in Iowa.

Quote:
Nestled among the cornfields of Iowa and the banks of the Cedar River is Iowa's only nuclear power plant, the DAEC. The plant is situated on 500 acres of land approximately nine miles from the city of Cedar Rapids.

I agree with you miki_38x1, nuclear power/waste does seem like a good bet.

Yeah, I think I confused Iowa with another one of those mid-western states. Embarassed
Another little thing about Iowa is that it has horrendous CO2 and NO emission levels. Companies keep proposing to put up more generators but are getting shot down by environmentalists.

If Jeff has contracted some strange radioactive disease, I'm thinking that pill is his best bet at recovering!
