Heh, I was wondering if someone might make mention of that. Hee!

Steve, Scraps, and Space (oooo, alliteration!) all had excellent posts on the topic.

Indeed.

So did anyone point her to the chat room?

When you say 'her' you are referring to an in-game character right? Oh, I get it, trying to make this UF's game, and not the blue's or the newly emerging blacks. Keep people coming to your site by posting advertisement in someones game. Smart

If we had directed Dana to #beekeepers, how would that be advertising UF? It's not like you have to have a UF stamp of approval to enter the room. Rolling Eyes

The way she phrased the query made it apparent she wasn't going to go there, she was going to direct others there. It looks like these PMs at least have some understanding of controlling their environment rather than letting the players dictate the terms of the game.

Or, quite trying to contain the players playing on your boards and let them play like they want to.

Who says they want to play any other way? Let's say, just for argument's sake, that I mess up and tell an in-game character about unfiction or cd or your "newly emerging blacks". I would hope that the PMs would have enough sense to either ignore my comment completely or come up with some in-game cover story as to why they are ignoring my comment. Something like "Well, I tried to go to this unfiction.com you talked about, but couldn't get the page to load. Oh well, I don't have time for another forum to keep track of anyway." Or anything like that. I don't understand why this keeps coming up. UF is not ingame. Most players know that and if they don't the PMs should.

Okey dokey, I'll put up my opinion on this matter.

Personally, I see no real reason to create an additional room. Chances are (and no, I don't know this for sure), the PM already knows about #beekeepers, and if Dana wanted to post that, she could (a la Pythia pointing to the Jawbreakers guide) If we pointed her to the unfiction "The Haunted Apiary" site, it says right there "Discussion in #beekeepers".

So, I see it, we have three scenarios:

 1. The PM knows we're here, has no inclination to join into the #bk discussion as a character or his/herself, but wants to have explicit permission to steer others here.
 2. The PM, or his/her characters desire to join into the conversation in #bk.
 3. The PM doesn't even know we are here.

Ok. I figure Case 1 is most likely, and I see no harm in pointing to #bk. Hey, we might attract new people to the genre, and get them involved in the fun. Pointing to them to #ilovebees almost seems like we're screening them first.

Case 2 would be pretty laming, and that would be a game I wouldn't be that interested in. I don't (shouldn't) be playing from work, and to have to watch characters spilling game info in a channel all day would just be rather blah. So far, this seems to be a pretty quality game, and I think this case is unlikely.

Case 3 is most unlikely, considering that packages are getting sent to the ARG board masters (Steve from ARGN, Bill from Deaddrop). If the PMs don't know about this place, they're living under a pretty big rock.

So...I think this is just a public request from the PM to allow them to publicize our chatroom. And I honestly see no harm in that.

maybe this game really relates to Kingdom of Loathing

Hmmm, having never heard of this "UF stamp of approval" I can only assume it is a hint ...

Perhaps the "UF stamp of approval" is a tattoo from the Pretentious Artist? I haven't been to The Wrong Side of the Tracks or visited his Dirt-Walled Hovel in a while. (I had to give up something to keep my RL close to functioning.)

What I am afraid to ask, but must, is: "what outfit do I have to wear? " I'll be damned if I'll wear that Knob Goblin harem veil again. Razz Laughing

You don't need the veil, but make sure to spray yourself with some of that Knob Goblin Harem Perfume! I also recommend wearing the 1337 7r0uZ0RZ, as well as some sort of flame-resistant hat... I hear the asbestos turtle helmet works well. Very Happy

I think my Mariachi pants are key to getting a UF stamp of approval.

I had heard that you needed stench resistance.. perhaps an asshat would be in order?

Unbelievable. To the paranoid:

Clearly this was a request for permission to post a link to direct other gamers to a player group. Don't over analyze. (spherewatchers and cloudmakers got linked inside the Beast, BECAUSE THE PMs CHOSE TO LINK THEM)

Just because FB got the email (was he even the only one?) doesn't mean his answer is the only link they'll post. What do you want to bet that if/when something goes up there will be several links? The xbox ad alone is going to spawn groups all over the place. Personally, I think FB would be entirely appropriate in answering with #beekeepers.

So, "Guest" and "wife of Guest", send your own links. The game universe will take off wherever critical mass forms. Assuming the PMs want to post your links. Jeez.

All that aside, I know we consider UF "out of game" but if the goal of this request is to offer options to other gamers, and esp. for those w/o access to irc, what forums can we offer? By taking this approach (not suggesting Dana mention UF as well) we actually deny ourselves the role cloudmakers played in the Beast.

Someone (I forget who though, sorry!) mentioned today in #beekeepers that, if this is a tie-in to Halo 2, we might be better off having a filter channel to keep script kiddies out.

Though having some "31337 h4x0rz" running around could be entertaining... Very Happy

I would think that if the PMs wanted / needed a in-game irc channel, that they would create one themself, and that its not up to the players to do this.

Game is just a life.
