Re: [SPEC] The writing on the door in the commercial
What does it mean?

Damnit, internet is down at home, and I work on a linux box that doesn't see my memory stick.

This is "when" it happens in the commercial

It's easy to see when you watch the HD version. I'd say you can see it there, vaguely, but someone watch the HD version around here and post a screenie or two, please!

It's slightly below his head ( height wise ) dead center of the door during that camera angle.

The Slusho! contest is not in the list of current contests on the Alienware website.

Noticed that yesterday, but I wasn't expecting it to be there.

If they're using the Alienware name, it has to be a real contest.

alienware website omission

It is just a bad marketing synchronization, not really important but noticeable.

Honestly, although it's unusual, I think it's just wood grain.

I agree with the wood grain, it is the spot where the light hits and is diffracted by the varnish on the door.

why he does not go out

After breaking the door, the man look through it. Then he says "no no no", shaking his head and turns away. Why do he break the door if it seems that he can go away from another exit?

Because he no longer needs what he thought he was lacking - Slusho! gives him the strength, power, confidence, etc. to get through that door and chase his dreams & desires, but once he gets the door open, he realizes that he already has everything he needs & wants in Slusho!

Yes I agree somehow on your explanation, but I feel that there is something we just don't get. Something obvious, but that we are overlooking. or as this game started, we are not given the key yet, just scrambled clues.

Revisting the Noriko connection....

Melampus wrote:

In terms of trying to find some deeper meaning/themes from this commercial, we might want to consider the importance of Noriko to the Slusho History.

The History page of Slusho! was one of the first things we saw in this whole game, and it's more about Noriko than Ganu. She disappeared after going out to sea to find the tastiest ingredient in the world. After that, Ganu - initially uninterested in Mom's venture - had his own weird dream and used his scientific discovery to 'complete' Noriko's vision. As a result, Ganu becomes very rich and powerful. And, now, TIDO is making constant references to defending Mother Earth from Ganu's greed and corruption. The headline "Tell us About Your Mother" jumps out; but also, lines like this (from "Who Are Les Guerriers de Mère-Terre?"):

Quote:
We now turn our attention to Tagruato, a company that has been having its way with our Mother for decades. The T.I.D.O. Wave will cleanse Her of their cruelty.

And, as kosmopol pointed out, in the Slusho commerical, that cartoon-boy's mouth is (over) the man's navel, possibly suggesting an umbilical cord, i.e., connection to Mother. So, there's a general theme of Ganu & Mother; and, specifically, of Ganu betraying or disrespecting Mother. Could there be someone who is really angry that Ganu used his scientific discovery to complete Noriko's dream?

Noriko started her experiments by mixing fruits and vegetables "and other ingredients naturally grown from her father's (Ryouta Yoshida) farm." And, "traveling the world as young horticulturist, Le Bandit observed the excessive exploitation and pollution of Mother Earth by big business." Noriko is not Le Bandit Vert, because they call Le Bandit "he" at one point, and I think the timing wouldn't work - she'd be too old if she was still around. But, there does seem to be some vague connection between the two; perhaps the theme that will evolve will be Ganu's corruption of Noriko's dream - maybe Le Bandit Vert was close to Noriko, a business partner? A lover? Ganu's Father? Or, an unknown sibling or other close relative of Ganu's? Les Guerriers de Mère-Terre was "founded in Paris in 1982 by the notorious conservationist known only as Le Bandit Vert." That doesn't mean Le Bandit is french, but just that he's adopted this french personna.

Another possible connection is the story of Emperor Chuai (from Wikipedia):

Quote:
According to these same legends, his wife was suddenly possessed by some unknown gods. The gods promised Emperor Chūai rich lands overseas. Chūai then looked to the sea, but he could see nothing and denounced his belief in the promises of the gods. The gods were enraged by this and declared that he would die and never receive the promised land. Instead they would go to his conceived but unborn son.

So... is Chuai's legend a metaphor for Ganu's Father? His wife became obsessed with finding her fortune in the sea - but, Ganu's father didn't support this idea. Noriko set out anyway and never came back. Some years later, Ganu shows up and makes a killing Wink by fulfilling Noriko's dream. Sticking to the legend, Ganu's Dad would have died before this happened; another family member then? Someone who resents Ganu's 'inheritance' of Noriko's dream. I'd say Danno Jo, but he's called Ganu's "right hand man" in a Tagruato article, and he seems to be a heavy hitter in Tagruato management, so why would he be pissed off? Still, there are some weird things about Danno Jo: he was left in charge of Noriko's drink business until Ganu took over, but he's also mentioned as overseeing the undersea construction projects - that seems odd. Meanwhile, according to an article on Tagruato, the Tokyo Business Quarterly gala in October of 2006 was "the partners' [Ganu & Danno Jo] first known appearance together, public or otherwise." That's also odd.

Anyway, the point is that there seem to be a lot of things pointing us toward Noriko, and with some possible relation to TIDO. Just some thoughts.

Perhaps Danno Jo is of the school of thought: "Keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer." There could be a LOT behind the scenes there. Perhaps Obachan (Aunt) Noriko was Danno's favorite, and her disappearance affected him greatly (or perhaps he knows how she disappeared) - maybe HE'S "Le Bandit Vert". I also wonder who Ganu's father was (is)...so much to ponder and digest....

I also read the disclaimer about all the disasters that could possibly happen to cancel the contest. Don't know why, but it caught my eye as I was scrolling down the Official Rules. Maybe they won't really award the prizes, because of what happens on 1-18-08.

And that commercial was quite disturbing, even though I watched it a number of times, and yes, I noticed the "eyes" on the wall before the room changed. Funny how the guy's footsteps thundered as he walked toward the door to rip it off the hinges. And the commercial moved as fast as the trailer did. Sensory overload, that's for damn sure.
Dennis - Thanks for the screenshots - you rock! (You married? Wink )

British Guy - I LOVE Braniac! That show is great! Unfortunately, our new cable co sucks, and I can't watch it anymore. Mad

I REALLY have to start checking this forum daily, no matter how late! What's a little sleep? I hate missing stuff, then having to read 23+ pages to catch up! Good thing it's Friday!

Anyone notice that the nose of the moose's head looks strangely like a marine/deep sea fish head?

The green (bubbles?) could be the eyes, and the nose being the "fish head"
