Oh yeah, 26 miles is plenty far from the plant itself to be safe from any type of radiation in that aspect, especially with the safety precautions that nuclear reactors take to keep the radiation in check. However, if the plant were improperly disposing of its waste, like putting it in the woods for lack of room in the cooling chambers that radioactive waste is supposed to be in, Jeff would be in a good bit of danger. So would all of the people in that area.
What I think may be happening is that the place Jeff works for may be illegally obtaining the uranium, which is easily weapons-grade, from the plant, and all of the workers may be exposed to it if his work doesn't have the facilities in which to store it.
We better hope that does not turn out to be true! If they are getting uranium illegally from the plant, the plant's owners might try to kill him when he goes down there. They know how illegal it is and want to cover their own asses, so they might take him out, I have not heard from him in a few days either.

Yeah, that would be just 10,000 different kinds of bad. It doesn't help that Jeff has no recollection of what goes on at his job either. He's the only one that could shed some more light on this mysterious project for the DoD.

Well hopefully that medicine might help to jog his memory a bit. Though I still am unsure about whether or not it will be beneficial in the long run Neutral Looks like we just have to wait.

Also, Misroi, my bad Embarassed ! Yeah, it is IL, but I doubt that the map would be reversed only because it fits Iowa so well this way.

Just noticed a double-letter again in the latest blog entry:
Quote:
Wish mee luck. Please, let me know if anything else shows up.

I'm starting to think that we're overlooking these letters. I think I might go back and look at the chat logs to figure out exactly how many of each there are. It'll at least give me something to do Smile

Jeff posted Steve's email on his blog. I am writing an email to him right now... Anybody have anything they want me to ask specifically?

I will post it when I am done.

I just emailed Steve as well. Although I got a strange message about accepting mail from my IP address, so I had to send it using my phone's wireless service. Why would my IP address be blocked?

This is what I wrote:
Quote:
Hey Steve,

How has Jeff been over the last few days? Have you seen him since he got out of the hospital? I hope you both are doing well especially since we found out that you may be exposed to nuclear waste. I do not know how much Jeff has told you about what we have found out, but that name that you heard on the message you cleared up, Duane Arnold, is the name of a power plant that you guys live near. Did you and Jeff work there? Or close to that plant? We think it may be part of the reason why Jeff is sick. Therefore we believe that he should take the pill as soon as possible. He wont take it unless someone is around him to help just in case something may happen. Please go see him asap so he can take that pill. Let us know what happens!

Also Jeff said he was going to post a few things that may help us figure out more things about what is going on with him. If you could remind him about all that especially since he is having a problem remembering things lately. That would be great!

Only problem I thought of was we do not know much about Steve, just that we assume he is a friend of Jeff. What if by telling him all this we are helping out the other side? Wouldn't it be really easy to tell a person who can not remember things well that they work together often when they really have never met?

So with that thought in my head I have not sent the email yet. I don't know maybe I am too paranoid for his own good. What do you guys think? Should I send it or not? Or should I take some information out just in case?

I just sent him a very generic email saying who I was and if he could tell me anything that could help me find out better what's happening to Jeff. It's better to be safe than sorry, and if you think Steve might be on the opposing side, then don't include that much info. And I'm sure Jeff has already told Steve all of the stuff you mentioned anyway.

Emailed x3! Here's my email, and if/when he replies, I'll paste that here as well.

Hey there, Steve, I've been following Jeff's blog, and was one of the people that helped crack that weird audio file. Everything seems so surreal and X-Filesy. If I were you, I'd keep a close watch over your shoulder; if David Duchovny shows up, RUN.

Seriously though, it's gotta be weird being involved in this directly. I mean, we're removed from the situation, but you and Jeff are stuck in the middle of it. Jeff especially. Poor guy.

He says he doesn't want to take the pill without someone around, and I can understand that. Who knows what the hell that thing could do to him? Still, everything we've gotten so far has told him to take it. I know the source is suspect, I know it's risky as hell, but he's got to take that thing, and from everything we're hearing, it should be sooner rather than later.

I know you can't talk about your work (NDAs and all that), but it does seem odd that Jeff can't remember anything about his work. From the video Jeff posted on the blog, it sounded as though you had some short-term memory loss as well. Is this something that's been going on for awhile? Or am I reading too much into this?

By the way, what's your background? I know you and Jeff are engineers and such, but I know that's a huge field. Again, I know you can't go into specifics, but I'm just curious what your area of expertise is. (Good job on that cleaned-up audio file, by the way; much better than what I threw together.)

Stay safe, Steve!

-Stephan

His reply:

Quote:

Stephan,

Thanks for the help with that video. It is important to have people helping us who are outside the situation. Being directly involved is so surreal, like being in a dream. We are both so consumed by the "Is this really happening?" feeling that thinking is next to impossible.

I agree that Jeff needs to take the pill, he has nothing to lose. He is coming to my house tonight to do so. I'm sure he's still dragging around his screwed up camera so we'll probably video tape the event.

Regarding my work….. I wish a Non-Disclosure Agreement was the only thing keeping me quiet. Jeff does have significant short-term memory loss, but it seems to be limited to work related events. His memory over the past week seems fine since he is no longer working on the project.

My background is aeronautical engineering and mathematics.

Again, we both appreciate all the assistance.

Steve

I just got this:
Quote:
Alex,

Jeff is still very sick. I have not seen him since he was flown to Ann Arbor, but he is coming to my house tonight to take the pill. Good to hear I might be exposed to nuclear waste! It's scary, but I'm not feeling any different.... feel fine actually. I am up to speed with Jeff's situation and how you are helping. I was not aware that Duane Arnold was a nearby nuclear plant, but I guess that's a good thing. If you've got a nuclear plant nearby, you don't want it doing anything to make national news.

I do not work at Duane Arnold and Jeff doesn't work at all....anymore. But he did not work at the nuclear plant either. We were unaware of it existed until recently. I am sure Jeff will have his broken camera tonight when he comes over to take the pill. We will post the event on his blog.

I think Jeff has been busy with moving out of his place, but I know he is always taking video. If he finds something interesting, I'm sure he will post it. I'm just hoping nothing too crazy happens tonight when he takes that "medicine".

We appreciate all the help!

Steve

Looks like it is all going down tonight.
