IT'S ALL ONE BIG HINT!!!
Because we're too dumb to see something

Just woke up, checked emails, made sure the wife was comfy (surgery last night) and logged on. Read through this whole post, THEN checked the website. It seems very evident to me that it's a direct message from the PMs to us.

Quote:
The "event" discussed in our last meeting has, unfortunately, had some problems. Therefore, we'll be staging a repeat "event" for the weekend of the 14th. Please contact Randy on his green mobile for updated information.

"We tried to move the game along over the weekend with Jamie's video, but you all missed it. Therefore, here's a hint: RANDY IS IMPORTANT. FIND HIM!"

Quote:
Many of you have written in and complained that when you get into a demonstration situation and it goes array, you often find yourself alone in a jail cell for hours or trapped outdoors with inadequate food, clothing, or hygiene options.

"Stop complaining when you can't find your way to the next part of the game. We don't need to hear it anymore. Here are some direct clues:"

Quote:

To address this need, I've created a "Survival Kit" of essential items to take with you to any gathering, should you be captured or forced to flee society for several days.

1. "Warm towel"
2. Dried fruit
3. Small comb
4. Jerky
5. Flare gun
6. Swiss Army Knife
7. Compass

I've been making pre-packaged "Survival Kits" of my own for distribution at Tidowave rallies. $30 per set. Please contact me on my cell for purchase.

"Again, the cell phone. FIND IT!"

Quote:
Please send all flowers and sympathy cards to Margaret. She'll pass them on to the appropriate parties.

"Yeah, you guessed it, the Teddy disappearance is important!"

Now, a few random thoughts:
1. "Array" This is a direct clue to use an array.
2. I like where we're heading using the capital letters.
3. Please tell me you've all read Hitchiker's Guide...towels are important! Cello?!?! Duh!

Now, I'm off to tackle this array.

^ Anyone else think the "30" could be part of the number we're looking for? It really stands out to me.

H2G2 explaination of "towel" (typed up while I should be studying for finals) - A towel is about the most massively important useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have. Partly it has great practical value. You can wrap it around you for warmth... you can lie it on brilliant marble-sanded beaches... you can sleep under it beneath the stars... use it to sail a miniraft... wet it for use in hand-to-hand combat... wrap it round your head to ward off noxious fumes... you can wave your towel in emergencies as a distress signal... and of course dry yourself off with it if it still seems clean enough.

I don't agree with this, the site was updated less than 24 hours after the video.

But I agree with this.

so we've got 30 and 42 Very Happy

edit: was this merged? I could have sworn it was a separate thread?!

But where do we begin? I'm willing to bet that we will get a clue to the number, or some way to contact Randy on the 14th.

Going alpha-numerically on "warm towel"

w = 23
a = 1
r = 18
m=13
t = 20
o = 15
e = 5
l = 12

23 1 18 13 20 15 5 12. Is that a European phone number (going on the idea that Randy is in Europe or England)??

Looks like a phone number to me. Ask for a "warm towel"?

I agree that array is a big hint as towards how to decipher the rest of the post.

1. "Warm towel"
2. Dried fruit
3. Small comb
4. Jerky
5. Flare gun
6. Swiss Army Knife
7. Compass

Is the clue? It is some sort of array, right?

And yes I think 30 is important, maybe 30 per set is how we need to decipher the array?

Our attempt to infiltrate Tagruato's operation has met with problems. We will take action to resolve these on the 14th. The organic material has been liberated and Randy will have it soon.

OR the organic material has been sent to Jamie and she will get it to the appropriate parties. Someone must tell her that Teddy is dead.

Our operatives are trapped at the site of the action. They have been captured, or they are hiding outside in bad weather.

Their lives are at risk. We need your help to get them out.

Honestly, I think that the span tag is the right place to be looking. I don't know a whole lot about css, but they could probably have that ID defined as anything in the css page, so that could be a place to hide a phone number. The fact that two of the new blogs mention contacting him and we have a ten digit number hidden in a span tag for seemingly no other purpose....come on.

I found this PDF which mentions everything apart from the flare gun, and the temperature of the towel.

http://www.kuffelcreek.com/Lightweight%20Backpacking.pdf/LIGHTWEIGHT.pdf

OOG obviously, but I thought I'd throw it in there.

Bit of a trout, there. Phone numbers derived from that html tag were considered here last night, around page two or so of this thread. There's no direct phone number in there. That's not to say there's not a coded #, but without a key to decoding, who knows...?

I'm inclined not to think Organimal is any kind of inside tipster. I'd think we'd be given longer than 12 hours before someone would do the work for us.... Also, the translation's just speculative, with no real direction forward.

In any case, I do think we're on the right track. The new blog entries--especially that list--really seem to be a coded message of some sort. The list doesn't make much sense if it's not coded, but it would be an excellent time and place for TIDO to get some important information out in a clandestine way.
