Ehh, I'm actually happy to see it this way. A movie that relied heavily on blood and guts to make its impact would have been boring after going through the mental exercises we've had with the online experience. I'm personally not entertained by gore-fests anyway, so this actually increases my anticipation.

Jurassic Park 2 had a guy getting ripped in half on screen. I wouldnt consider that tame. Also (to reference another JJ production) MI3 was PG-13 and that was pretty rough and exciting. Also Live Free and Die Hard was PG-13 and a guy got shredded in the spinning metal thing

Does the new rating mean a new trailer??? The Cloverfield trailers have had a good tendency of being shown before popular movies...anyone think we'll see another one before I Am Legend now with the new rating?
And do movie websites normally layout their credits page like the bottom of their posters??? I thought that was kinda wierd.

Understood. But still, if this actually happened in real life.. it'd certainly be R. I mean I alone would say "fuck" about a hundred times. They wanted this to be realistic, yet limit themselves with a PG-13 rating...I don't get it.

for those of you worried about kids go see the movie during the times when kids are in school. Problem solved.

Spiderman 2 was PG-13 as well, and it contains several on screen deaths in the hospital and lab. Also, for that matter, Casino Royale (2006) was PG-13 as well, as most of the Bond films have been (at least so long as the rating's existed).
I think it makes sense... the violence and death you will see will be large scale and, to some degree, assumed. If a skyscraper collapses, you don't need to see each individual death in graphic detail to know it's a bad thing.

I agree that PG-13 isn't what it used to be. I've seen a lot of recent films that were rated PG-13 and were more deserving of an R rating. Plus I'd put money on there being an "unrated DVD edition". Come to think of it, I've also seen PG-13 movies that had several f-bombs and nudity. (Diane Keaton in "Something's Gotta Give" comes to mind... and all the alcohol in the world hasn't seemed to work in forgetting it.)

"Live Free or Die Hard" was also another PG-13 film that heavily bordered on an R raitng. Ah well. If the violence and over all uneasiness of the film is up to snuff, I can sacrifice a few f-bombs. It sort of goes against the whole 'realism' angle, but I'll live.

i just hope the swearing is realistic. i hate watching movies on tv where the swearing is just completely off. i don't want to see the monster step on a tank and rob goes "oh gosh golly gee!".
although at the same time if i saw someone explode and the other characters start going "HOLY FRICKING FRICKBALLS!" i'd probably start laughing my ass off.
stupid point to make i know but it's a bit of a pet peeve.

There will probably be tons of cursing, and maybe one or two f-bombs. Realistically, Jamie wouldn't have limited her swearing of Teddy to "prick" when she thought he was fucking her over. I don't think I've ever broken up with a girl and had her act as mildly as Jamie did, in terms of profanity.

f-bombs = reality?
Some of you people must never have known a person who didn't use such language. I have, and it doesn't bother me nor does it make a movie more realistic. Yes, it's commonplace now for people to speak like that, I know I do, but not everyone does.
