Possible ARG/ad campaign for Ghostbusters video game Who you gonna call? As some of you may have heard, a new Ghostbusters video game is in the works. It's being published by Sierra Entertainment, and will feature the return of Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson providing the voice and likeness of the Ghostbusters (Aykroyd and Ramis are writing the script). The game is scheduled for release next Halloween.
Starting today (11/30/07), Sierra's official site for the game is "accepting applications for employment" with the Ghostbusters. To access one, allow the site to load, and click the "We Want You" poster on the left-hand side.
The application asks for your name, e-mail, ZIP code (but not your full address), mobile phone number (but not your home number), and a password. The second page asks you what game system(s) you play, as well as whether or not you believe in a number of supernatural phenomenon (and of course, the obligatory "If there's a steady paycheck in it, I'll believe anything you say").
The purpose of the password is unclear; it will presumably be used at a later date, since there's currently no login or account feature. I would assume that you can expect some fun calls to your cell phone, but I don't have one myself, so I'm not sure.
Completing the application nets you a congratulatory letter from "the City of New York" and a couple of extra goodies like a Slimer wallpaper and a Stay-Puft IM icon, as well as a forum banner to help spread the word about the upcoming game.
I mention this here because it might serve as a gateway to other things happening in the future, and then again, it might not. Nintendo promoted Metroid Prime 2 by placing ads for a "bounty hunter" on Craigslist; people who actually responded to the ad received free copies of the game. I think that with the release of this game still almost a year away, this might be something similar, along the lines of a giveaway or an opportunity to get in on beta testing. At best, you might score some free swag; at worst, your inbox will be cluttered with more junk mail than usual (although the application has an opt-in checkbox specifically asking if you want news about the game or other Sierra titles).
Just thought you'd like to know.

They ask for your phone carrier, which likely means they want to know where to text message you. Not ruling out phone calls, just saying texts are more likely.
Greatly looking forward to the game, maybe something fun can come beforehand, as well!

For those who are interested, Game Informer's new issue has the Ghostbuster game as its cover story.

I don't believe there's a, "ME! ME!" emoticon, but there should be.

I can see the lines outside of Best Buy now. Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together - mass hysteria.
Sorry... I had to.

Well you can apply in good old GB, so I'm over the moon, I really expected a USA only game (again).
