Yeah, the PG-13 rating is DEFINITELY a sellout, so I WOULDN'T be surprised to see Grumpypants Supaa-Kung-Fu Action!!! figures (Severed SOL(tm) Head(tm) Sold Separately) appear to complete the sellout.

SHOULD this movie have action figures or other merchandising...? HELL, no. This movie wasn't designed as a franchise; it was designed as an experiment in non-traditional marketing. So action figures and playsets and coffee mugs and bedsheets and lunchboxes (i.e., traditional marketing) would be an essay in hypocrisy on JJ's part.

I hope to god JJ doesn't sell out, but it looks like he is.

Jesus, quit your bitchin' and be thankful you're getting a movie.

Oh, and they made Texas Chainsaw Massacre Action figures. Those were hilarious.

Explain it to me again: why should people "be thankful" that they're getting bad movies? Shocked

Not that I'm quite going that far -- I'm just saying that the PG-13 rating combined with the short (90 min) runtime point towards High Level Bean-Counter Intervention, which probably goes AGAINST the creative vision that Bad Robot had for this movie. So it probably *will* be bad, but not necessarily.

And no, if a movie sucks, I'm *not* going to be "thankful" for that. I can spend my money on better movies, or whatever else. If a movie sucks, it deserves to bomb. Si?

I do think this movie deserves to do well because of all the viral marketing that has been behind it, which keep in mind is free and quite enjoyable. I know that even if this movie is a waste of my $7, I'll consider it a big "thank you" for all the months that have followed after July.

I was just "looking for clues" online (as my 9 year old son calls it) and he asked me if there will be any toys, or action figures of the monster? Good question I told him! So I figured I would pose the question to my fellow cloverheads. Will there be any toys, models or action figures of the monster? If so who would produce them and would they already be made in preparation for the release of the film. I know the budget for the film is low and may not account for this sort of thing. What do you think?

This post is the reason why the PG-13 rating should be killed and be killed immediately if not sooner.

A 9 yr old?!? This sucks balls. I'm a grown adult and the teaser alone scared the shit out of me. I have expected all along that the movie would bring near heart attack levels of excitement. But now, because of the rating, we'll have 9 yr olds watching?!? aww crap...

Whoah.........cool your jets my friend. Who says a 9 year old cannot enjoy a giant monster movie?

Listen, did JJ not say something like we needed our "own Godzilla?" YES! JJ never said he was going to make a movie that was going to scare the "shit" out of you or "give you a heart attack." Dude, grow some! If the trailer scared you that bad maybe you should stick to Mary Poppins!

And another thing, how does making the film PG-13 earn the honor of being killed off by you?

Don't immediatly blow off a movie because a nine year old may like it too. Not all children in this world are sheltered. Just because you may enjoy the film does not mean some kids cannot enjoy it as well.

My son enjoys playing this ARG with us so please do not attack him again. Mad

But if you feel the need to..................................Come get some! Laughing

$7!!
I haven't paid $7 dollars for a flick for several years!
If this movie tanks, I will have wasted $20 for the tix (gotta take my hubby), $5 for a soda $10 for popcorn and sour ripoff candy, $25 for a babysitter and my only date night in like forever.

So I hoping and betting on this being a great date movie, i.e. scares the crap out of me and I end up huddled in my hubbies arms.

Very Happy

Of Course,

Of Course there will be merchandising!! This is a low budget movie being shown to a large audience in the middle of winter. JJ would say "Lets make some Dough MAN!!" Laughing

I beg to differ:

"And I thought, we need our own monster, like we need a monster movie

And I thought not like King Kong. I love King Kong. King Kong is adorable.
And Godzilla is a charming monster. We love Godzilla

But I wanted something that was just insane, and intense."

JJ Abrams at Comic-con

Would you let your 9 yr old watch this?

Nope. Smile But I stick by my opinion.

If you're gonna be this pessimistic and bitch this much before the movie even came out- DON'T SEE IT.

The problem is, you're all going into this movie with your expectations, hoping that the movie will be played out how YOU want it to be. Just because its got a lower rating than "R" doesn't mean its going to suck. Did Lord of the Rings suck? HELLL NO. And the multiple awards that movie recieved says that it didn't suck. So it might not say "Fuck," So it might not make your little peepee hard by showing you some boobies to wack off to later on, so it might not be AS bloody as you'd hoped it would be... Besides, there have been more rated "R" flicks that have sucked within the past few years than there have of lesser ratings:

Saw 2-4, Hostel 1 and 2, The Hills have Eyes were any good- its all the same bullshit, just different characters and scripts... They weren't even scary, they were shitty ideas that were fancied up by adding extra fake blood to the scenes to make them seem interesting. The plots sucked and the scripts sucked even more.

The fact is, Bad Robot made the movie, and THEN they gave it the rating.

Honestly, I hope I get them so mad- not only will they NOT see the movie, but they'll just give up on the A.R.E. all together.

yeah, I know... it seems like people have that thread under control with the pessimism though, so I couldn't really say much... But some how this thread got transformed into another bitch session because of the ratings...

oh and by the way, and this isn't to you Super Squirrel, we WILL see the monster. How do I know this- You don't make a bold statement like "I wanted us to have our own monster" and never show us the friggin' thing. If this is supposed to be a Godzilla like film- we'll see OUR monster.

There better be a damn toy.
