Ok, so, first-hand report: the trailer was pretty damn awesome. Having that size of a screen and that quality sounds surely helps, but it was also very cool in its own right.

For those who want to know what happened, here's what I remember:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Basically, what you see is a bunch of henchmen in clown masks do all sorts of preparations for a big bank robbery, like shoot a cable across a few rooftops, fix the electronic systems so the alarms won't sound, etc. You also hear them gossip about their boss, the Joker, and how they don't like him for letting them do all the dirty work. They also remark that he "must be crazy, robbing a mob bank".

Then, as they violently enter the bank, you see some of the henchmen on the outside kill some of the others, as they were apparently told to do so by the Joker.

Inside, what looks like the bank manager (played by William Fichtner), starts emptying a shotgun at the masked guys and actually kills a few, while yelling "do you have any idea who you are stealing from?", but ends up being shot down himself when he's out of ammo (although the two henchmen who are left miscalculate that moment the first time).

After that, we see those two with a huge stack of bags filled with money, and one complains to the other that the Joker should have provided bigger means of transportation. When the other pulls his gun, the first guy sighs and says "so I guess you were told to kill me, huh?". The other guy answers "no, I'm supposed to kill the busdriver".

The first guy just has enough time to ask "what busdriver?" before a schoolbus drives right through the wall, driving right into the guy, neatly killing him. The driver gets out and asks what happened to all of the others, whereupon the last one of the thugs that's still left shoots him.

The manager lies on the floor there and yells some more, which makes the thug turn around and lift his mask, reveiling that he is in fact the actual Joker, commenting "I've found that what doesn't kill you makes you str o anger", while stuffing what looks like a grenade down the guys throat.

Then you see a couple of cuts to Batman, the Batmobile, the Bat-cycle and the Bat-light getting smashed by a police-officer (?) with an axe. Then we see the schoolbus drive away, and we also see that a piece of string is attached to it's rear door. When it drives off, we see that the piece of string is also attached to the grenade, and pulls the pin. Instead of a big bang following, you see gas starting to seep from the cannister.

The last shot (I think) was the schoolbus driving out of the building and entering a whole row of other schoolbuses.

As I said, it was really cool, but after waiting in line for over 1.5 hours (there were people there that had been waiting for over 4 hours even), I had expected at least a clue or something else that might put us on a trail for more online stuff. I'm almost 100% sure there wasn't though, there was no text at all during the whole thing, no credits, no announcements except for the age classification showing, not even the release date.

I guess that leaves waiting for the phones to ring...

Giskard and rose reporting in by cellphone from the NY IMAX--it was a 6 minute trailer, nothing else, no clues, no text. The only cool thing was that the director, Christopher Nolan introduced it.

It sounds cool to have an exclusive invite and all, but I am glad I didn't go considering the cost in Chicago - parking, tolls, gas, travel time, etc. Free is never free in Chicago. I am glad you all had fun though.

I couldn't tell if people were disappointed in "just" getting to see the trailer. I think the fans of Batman and the players of the ARG have been salivating for some new visual info - this was an actual bit from the movie, at least in part, not at all your typical jumpcut filled trailer. So, this was pretty great stuff. When the Joker is revealed, people cheered; when Batman was revealed, people cheered.

I think people wanted more, but I didn't hear any complaining on my way out of the theater. Some people came with their faces painted as the joker in clown makeup. I assume they thought that more was likely to happen at this event.

Christopher Nolan introduced the film saying he was sorry that they didn't have more to show us and that he was sorry that people had to wait out in the cold. (not his exact words) We would have waited to see it again, but one of the people in charge said it would take a half an hour to rewind (?) it.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Giskard wrote: "and the Bat-light getting smashed by a police-officer (?) with an axe".... I thought that was Commissioner Gordon maybe? Also, I thought that Batman was looking down as the smashing took place. Clearly that was from a much different, and I assume much later, part of the film. Also, I thought the Joker says " I've found that which doesn't kill you makes you stranger" (not "stronger" as Giskard mentiioned.) There were some interactions between members of the gang, the guys overriding the alarm, one of whom kills the other, the guys blowing the safe, one of whom kills the other. When they are overriding the alarm, the person listening to the alarm call says something like "strange he called a private number." Perhaps the private number has to do with the bank being a mob bank?

Giskard and I speculated that the people running the screening were a different group than the people running the game. The game fed people into the screening, but the screening seemed separate from the game. Except for the newspapers handed out after the screening, there was nothing relating to the game at all.

Copies of the Gotham Times newspapers were handed out to people as they left, but we checked and it was the same edition of the newspaper as had already been seen. I think people were glad to get those copies of the paper as swag.

Another note: the people there picked up the invite sheets, but didn't check anything on them. And, despite there being massive warnings about cameras not being allowed, they didn't check for those either. Giskard, being a tourist here right now, carried a camera with him and we didn't have an easy place to check it. It turned out not to be an issue. They asked for cell phones to be turned off, but didn't check those either. I think that because they had a number of security people watching the audience, they weren't concerned with checking people ahead of time.

Except for the ridiculously long wait in a line, (why couldn't they let us in sooner to sit down? Maybe a movie was playing and then the theater had to be cleaned before we could go in?) for a few minutes of a movie, it all went very smoothly. I hope that people enjoyed their chance to get a peek at the film. It looks really good, especially on the IMAX screen.

Also, there are more Batman fans and followers of this game than I thought. The theater holds about 650 people and there were some empty seats, but not many. Not too shabby for an event without much notice being held at 6:30 on a Thursday night.

Oops, yeah, stranger, not stronger, that was a typo. And I don't think it was Gordon who smashed the light, but you did see him in some of those scenes overseeing stuff. Those scenes were cut very fast and flashy and where there I guess to wrap up what were essentially the first 5 minutes of the movie into an actual trailer.

To be more specific, I didn't think 42 had anything to do with the practical organisation of the screenings. I think this was just a 'regular' screening which Warner Bros. had set up, like they do on a regular basis.

Yeah that's my thoughts too. At most, they may have sent a bit of swag (such as the newspapers being handed out), but otherwise, it's wishful thinking to consider this the equivalent of the Training Events from ilb Wink

Nonetheless, I'm going to TO and I'm taking some batman swag to get signed if there are any 'special guests' =)
might even decide to get beowulf 3d ticket and see it. Already say it in DLP, but IMAX 3D would be nice...

Heck, you wouldn't even have to get up, considering theres only 1 IMAX there, and you'll be in the theatre regardless.

If only that could work I would watch Beowulf there as well. I'm leaning alittle more towards the Golden Compass though.

I was really hoping for an advance screening of I am Legend on the other hand. 6 minutes of batman is more than good enough for me though.

that would have been nice... I'd be up for either B3D or GC, but I kind of want to see B3D since there's no Imax back home. A friend saw it in 3d and loved it. That one starts at 7pm on the imax, which makes sense if the batman preview is at 6.

Thanks for everyone who posted their reports on the IMAX screenings. I'm kind of bummed that there wasn't one in my area (especially since Portland has at least two IMAX theaters within driving distance) but I'm hoping that rumors that the prologue will be shown with 'I Am Legend' are true.

Kind of surprised that no additional swag/clues were given out at the screenings. I heard at least one rumor that there would be a raffle. Oh well, guess I'll just have to wait for my phone to ring.

Craig, we do recommend trying a quick search before posting 'new' information. Just in case it has already been posted back in June and discussed in some detail in other threads:
