[GAME] Pun My Word
Game from "Games"

I read about an interesting game in a story in the October 2007 issue of "GAMES" Magazine. Here is a section of the story by Carl Held:

Quote:
...I was pushed smack into a group playing "pun my word."

The game is a pleasurable pastime, participated in by perspicacious paranomasiacs producing pleasant and perhaps, predictable, possibly prodigious, puns...to put it plosively.

A quick example: An invitee to a science convention is trying to gain entrance at the security desk.

Guard: "Name please."
Man: "Presume."
Guard: "Full name, please Mr. Presume."
Man: "It's Doctor!"
Guard: "Sorry, Dr. Presume, full name please."
Man: "Dr. Livingston I. Presume."

There you are. One of the players reached into a hat, pulled out a slip of paper and read his challenge. He began immediately.

"Back in the days of the USSR< there was once a conference in Moscow attended by a delegate from each iron curtain country and SSR. After several days the delegates were given a day off and treated to a private tour of the Moscow Zoo. Unfortunately, what was to have been a pleasant experience turned into a tragic one. A lion and his mate broke out of their compound and attacked the group."

"Sparing you the gory details, the lions were eventually captured and locked securely in their compound. The surviving delegates and the head zookeeper stood outside the compound solemnly staring at the two engorged animals. The zookeeper, inconsolable, was sobbing hysterically.

"'Where is the gentleman from Budapest?' asked one of the group."

"The zookeeper, overcome with fear and grief, pointed repeatedly at the lioness, and the group realized that the Romanian had been eaten.

"'And my friend from Prague?' asked another, 'Where is he?'"

"The miserable zookeeper, sill overcome, pointed to the lion, and then, between great racking sobs, managed to say, 'The Czech is in the male.'"

I thought it would be fun if we gave this game a shot here. Basically, I start by naming a common phrase or quote, etc. Somebody turns that into a pun (in the style above). After this, they name their own quote or phrase, and the next person does that one, etc. ad nauseum.

Sound like fun? I hope so. Anyway, here's a phrase to start it off, shouldn't be too hard.

"Bored out of my mind"

If you want a really, really long drawn out Feghoot, there's one in my blog.

And if anyone wants to cheat at this game Wink there's an archive of shaggy dog stories here. I'd play along but so so much to do!

All I can picture is a tunnel-drilling project gone horribly wrong...
