[SPEC]Some Thing Has Found Us Discussion of the tagline Someone has already brought up the "found us"/"find you" connection, but I think this warrants further discussion.
The tagline "Some Thing Has Found Us" raises what could quite possibly be a significant thematic element in the movie. No, not global warming...but environmental exploitation. The "harvesting" aspects of Tagruato (deep sea oil, seabed's nectar) are entirely in keeping with an historical trend once carried out by nations (colonialism/imperialism) and now carried on by transnational corporations (see Hardt and Negri's Empire if this line of thinking floats your boat): the "discovery," appropriation, and commodification/exploitation of the "unknown" world, all in the name of expansion & profit.
As with classic 50s style monster movies, it's our own desires/drives that come back to destroy us. Perhaps we have a monster here that, having "found us," intends to "harvest" us. I'm suggesting the destruction may be something less random and more purposeful--even if it's something along the lines of a feeding frenzy (as opposed to a rampage of random destruction). Remember the soldier from the previous clip says something like "it's winning."
Thoughts?

lovely idea about the monster harvesting us. We believers that Marlena carried something in her would agree that our bodies work as a vessel for the parasite. we would be infinitely valuable to the greater organism.

Once you put actual thought into a monster movie, it ruins it.

Large Corporations are a necessity. How else do you provide products and services to 6 billion people?
I own a small Corporation. Yes, our goal is to expand, otherwise what is the use of making a business in the first place? I like providing jobs and an economic stream for my community.
I am not real sure that TAGRUATO is such a bad guy in all of this. They may turn out to be Wal-Mart, I don't know. But at this point, what have they done really? It is not likely they could run rampant without some sort of international government oversight.

The necessity of large corporations are not in question and this forum is not really appropriate for that conversation.
I do agree with you that Tagruato may not be the bad guy. I suspect that TIDOWave may be the cause of awakening or releasing Senior Grumpypants. That would be kinda funny. "The Cause" is the cuase.

85% of his comment was concerning environmental exploitation and the resulting "we did it" theory. Much like the bomb drops on Hiro/Nag spawned a USA-ish Godzilla. I was simply pointing out that although plausible, I am not sure that Abrams/Reeves would have taken that route. It is a tired formula that has been overused. The better storyline is the environmentalists cause the problem and TAG is trying to fix it. Yummy!

I recall a book I read a good while back I think it was by Dean Koontz, whereby this "creature/thing" emerged from the ocean every so many decades and devoured entire cities of people even so far as using it as an explanation for what happened to the mayan civilization, there was a similar one from even further back that involved the creation of a lifeform that devoured crude oil spills and had a limited life span in the story it grew and began a feeding rampage, in modern day U.S! just throwing this out there as an eco/enviromental slant!

The book is Phantoms there was also a movie made about it with the same title starring Ben Affleck and Rose McGowan. The beast was called "The Anciet Enemy" and it did not come from the ocean. It also absorbed the memories intelligence of the things it devoured ate.
Koontz is one of my favoriter authors ahve read everybook he's writtena nd most of them twice.

OT - Dean Koontz That would be awesome. Maybe we should start on the screenplay (not that I have any experience). "Twilight Eyes" is def initely one of my favorites think I read that one 4 time. "The Bad Place" is the first one I read anbd started this trend. "Lightning" could probably be adapted to screen well too. So far most of the adaptations of his havent gone too well.

You think? It seems that the undertone in a number of the Tagruato headlines/investor news releases is just a tad sinister. Converting animal shelters into research facilities, overriding the launch abort in the face of safety concerns....it may not be a Dr. Evil style corporation, but it does suggest a kind of deferral of conscience in the name of progress/expansion/profit.

Corporations are there to better your lives. Please, accept this fact as part of the evolutionary cycle. Thank you - WY
As specualtion - to be found could imply that some thing was looking.
It could also imply that it didn't originate here or was not aware of our exiastence.
We think it is possible to speculate further on the alternate dimension and/or alien thing from that tag line.
