it is with great relief I can say!! yes we will see grumpy pants director matt reeves in his interview with shock till you drop said and I quote"But you will absolutely see everything - and you will see the monster in very intimate detail. You will get a very close look. People who have seen the trailer might think we are using this style to avoid seeing the monster, but that is definitely not what we're doing. We're using it to build dread and anticipation."
Fabulous huh! very intimate detail!! now that is scary!

That's kinda a happy/sad moment for me.

The Happy Very Happy: Now I can see what the monster will look like, so that eliminates my curiosity.
The Sad Crying or Very sad: Not showing a lot of details and shots of the monster just adds to the suspense, mystery, and horroresque concepts that we've all come to love. But that's just me.

Not for me. It's a monster movie, not a mystery flick. I fully hoped to see the monster in all its glory. What is the point if you never get to see it? Blair Witch was a failure imo, because they never SHOW anything worth a hoot. This is much smarter. I love it. Razz

Nothing says Cloverfield like cheap trading cards that you throw away after a year and a Slusho! cup that makes crappy noises and breaks after two years. Thanks Abrams and the promotion team! Surprised

I'd love to see Sideshow Collectibles come out with a replica of the monster.
I just got my ALIEN diorama from them....they did a helluva job.

IESB: Because of the way the marketing is being done, you can't have merchandising tie-ins. Kids can't rush out and buy a toy of the monster. Is that something will come along later?

Reeves: Yeah, the thing about it is, which is very funny, is one of the initial inspirations for the movie was that JJ was with his son in Japan and they went to a toy store. There was shelf just filled with Godzilla toys and he was like, Godzilla is just so amazing. The whole idea of Godzilla is such an amazing idea. So that was sort of weird inspiration to do this story. That and also the poster for Escape From New York. That is, even though it's an image that is never in the film, is an image of the head of the Statue of Liberty in the street of New York and there's sort of a story that that implies. The was kind of the conceit for the whole story and now we've made this movie and one of the fun ideas was that, even though we couldn't do all the tie-ins up-front, was the idea that there would be this toy that could be this monster once people are introduced to it. That, actually, has been going on and there will be a monster. It's not going to be a big merchandising movie, but just for those people who are into that stuff and who are fans of that, there will be a toy. Like in the way that Alien had a toy - that was definitely a huge inspiration for this movie.

Sideshow Collectibles is *definitely* a possibility for this movie. Hell, maybe even McFarlane might make a diecast of the monster.

But Reeves proved in this interview, once and for all, that this is NOT a merchandising movie. A collectible figurine/bust or two for the fanboy crowd at GenCon or ComicCon or whatever, and the usual T-shirts/ballcaps/ coffee mugs. (Maybe even some genuine Slusho drinks -- I'm still hoping.) But there's *not* going to be a line of action figures or video games or anything else -- Reeves implies that in the interview.

I dont think they'll try to over sell this movie with countless figures etc.. they'll probably just do a run of the creature for a limited run if its popular enough! IMHO
