[HUMOR]The monster is a giant flea. The black death returns...
After seeing that animation of the monster jumping away I got this idea that the monster may be a gigantic flea monster. The flea is also the host of the virus which is infecting people. You know much like that little known virus that caused the Black Death; Yersinia pestis.
It's obvious that the giant flea sprays little flea monsters at people and they become infected afterwhich they balloon up and mutate into more flea monsters. The Tagruato tanker is the rat that thing came in on...

Heh, It's possible, a giant flea is the very first thing I thought the monster looked like when I saw the trailer.
p.s. that image isn't working, so I'll leave the link here

I would flip my lid if it truely ended up being a giant flea monster. Or some sorta weirded out mutation of a flea mixed with some other creature.

It all makes sense now!!
The woman behind the plastic sheet isn't swelling, she's being sucked dry! And the flea is what we see swelling, then the scientists take the magic needle, and viola!

No, no, no...
She IS swelling, because this is a variant of the bubonic plague that they are getting. The flea is attracted to the kaitei no mitsu in their bodies, then it bites them and they get infected. Eventually they form one big bubo which swells up and explodes. Meanwhile the flea is dropping eggs and it's babies are the small monsters spreading the disease even further.
(Please let this be the humorous speculation it's supposed to be. If I find out Grumpypants is a flea and this is spot on, I'm going to throttle JJ with a flea collar.)
Heh, exploding chicks...

Violet was a cop out.
She didn't explode.
They took her off to be 'juiced', which is to say she'll be fine after that.
What fun is that?

If you are correct with your assumption that the creature is indeed a
giant flea...(and i have no doubt that it is )
I hope Cloverfield#2 is about the dog or kitty it jumped off...
Now that would be HUGE

All we need is a Stinger missle loaded with a Frontline warhead.

Yersinia pestis is a bacterium not a virus and the jury's out on whether it caused the Black Death. It does cause bubonic plague though. And if you're really unlucky, pneumonic plague.
None of my smug correcting has any relevance though does it? Serving only to make me look like an arse. Arse away now, sorry
