Honey Packages

Hi there. I admit that I'm a bit new to this (so forgive me if I'm missing the point Wink ), but has anyone emailed Dana about the honey a few recieved with the 'ilovebees' letters inside? Perhaps there's something else on the jars that she might be able to track to a buyer. Just a thought...

hi Ian,

I am feeling better, thank you for asking. I tend to get stress
headaches and stomachaches, and well you know... things have been
pretty stressful lately. I hope none of you are prone to experiencing
sympathy symptoms...!

re: the meta tags, yeah, I changed them to try to attract some more
attention from people who might have some experience with this totally
insane breed of bugginess. looks like it worked... lots of attention
now, although I'm having a hard time processing all of it. lots of
noise, hard to follow the signal...

I'm sorry to hear about the recent attack on your aunt's website.
Looking through the source code of the front page, I noticed that the
keywords tag has some rather unusual content. Last time I checked it
read:

honey, bees, Margaret, small busines, beekeeping, hives, retail,
market, Operator, bug, buggy, virus, infestation, WTF is going on with
this damn thing, parasite, strong intrusive inclination, medium,
messages, shipwreck, network throttling, SOS, hoax, game, bee hoax, bee
game, survivor, survive, evade, resist, escape, a little help would be
appreciated, thanks and tip your waitress, sleep, is, good, install,
reinstall, re-reinstall, re-re-reinstall, I, love, bees

It might shed some light on the entity responsible to know which of
these words are yours (I assume "honey" through "market" and "I"
through "bees"), and if any of your words were removed.

I heard from some friends a few days ago that you were feeling pretty
bad as a result of the recent events. I hope you're feeling better,
and that we can help you get your aunt's site back in order ASAP.

Is it just me or is she saying processing or process a lot?
Normal people think about things, computer and or computer programs process things.
In addition she said "lots of noise, hard to follow the signal..." which also strikes me as somewhat computerish... Maybe a clue?

Another reply from Dana regarding Niven. Nothing groundbreaking, I don't think.

Quote:

hi e,
none of your beeswax-- how thematically appropriate. nice. I promise
to use it as necessary.
Niven fan... yes. other favorites? I like Murakami, Hammett,
Borges... (how relaxing to wax literary for a moment. an excellent
diversion from the site stuff)... favorite all time book? probably
_Tristram Shandy_, but that is NOT a recommendation, because it nearly
killed me getting through that blasted book. But you know, you often
come to love most the things that are the hardest for you, don' you
think?
TWING!
-d.

Murakami's Hard Boiled Wonderland is probably what she's referring to. That and the Hammett add to the list of detective novel references we saw from Margarett. I don't know enough about Borges to know if there's a particular text that's relevant. Tristram Shandy probably just relates to the innovative storytelling process that we're all participating in. She did give it a lot of weight by saying it's her favorite, though.

Thankfully most of the books that are quoted from or mentioned are availible from Project Gutenberg. Here's The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman aka 'Tristram Shandy'... more info here.
All very interesting I must say...

The two most notable things about Tristram Shandy, it looks like, are its early use of stream-of-consciousness, and its abundance of puns.

Mr. Shandy

The book is also arguably the first metafiction. I wouldn't be surprised to see that canonized along with Nabokov's Pale Fire, Borges work, and eventually Milorad Pavic among PMs. Can't recommend Pavic enough.

Which is interesting, since Dana refers to Gutenberg in her August 24th blog post.

Hmm...

While I'm here, I've got an e-mail reply from Dana as well:

Hi Dana!

I'll help out any way I can. I'm not the fastest or the most technical-minded person, but I do love a good mystery...

well, a mystery it is... welcome aboard, and let me know if you sleuth
anything new out.
thanks!
-d.

Nothing there I think, but I thought I should post for the sake of completeness.

I got a reply as well. Like above, doesn't seem terribly significant, but.....

My message:

I am (yet another) member of the team that has been working on the problems
with your Aunt's site. I know you've been hearing from tons of us, but rest
assured that's only because we are anxious to help you get things
straightened out. I hope you are all holding up reasonably well through
this stressful time.

Hopefully we will have everything back in order by the time you go on your
trip, but if we don't, are you sure you'll be able to keep in contact? I
know that you are visiting various contries, and some of them are pretty
restrictive in allowing incomming emails or what web pages you can view. If
you are not able to, and things aren't fixed by then (knock wood) is there
another email address your aunt wouldn't mind us contacting her at?(since
her hotmail seems to be affected by all this) or maybe someone else with
your technical knowledge?

I have been a bit worried about 'net access while away, as you

but, anyway, that's the plan.

The only thing that this really says is that there is no one else for us to be contacting (at least for now). Which is really nothing new.

I think this should be included here, mostly because I just spent twenty minutes searching for it, without finding it where it should be - here! Smile

really? there are people supposedly helping me out, who are trying to get into the hotmail account? how annoying. don't know what to do to discourage them other than to ask them not to, which I've already done... grrrr. I wonder if they're after my voicemail, too. My telcom provider keeps locking me out of the system for failed passcode attempts. double grrrr. -d.

Some members of the group that is trying to help you cant seem to understand that hacking hotmail is not a good idea.

Hi Chris,
thanks for asking after Aunt M. She's still completely flustered and
frazzled, like me, although maybe slightly less so, as I'm trying to
keep the weirder stuff off her radar. fortunately the v. mites keep
her pretty distracted, so it's easier to keep her a bit out of the
loop for now. and truth be told, I think she's happy to have an
excuse to ignore email for awhile... she never really liked it all
that much, lol, thought it was a bit cold and impersonal. funny...
email seems to me a very intimiate medium.
