[HUMOR] Asylum's Monster (Uncensored Version)! Have you ever heard of this film studio The Asylum that in the last couple of years has been making what Empire magazine calls "mockbsuters"? They do a cheap version of a big movie and release it direct to DVD a few days prior to the big movie's release and then cash-in!
You can check about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Asylum
...or the official site here: http://www.theasylum.cc
Well, I just saw that they're coming out with a new movie, on January 15th no less, that is called Monster. Check out the cover and the production stills. Familiar?

EDIT: there's a trailer, too.

Ah yes, I remember reading a review of Asylum's 'Snakes on a Train'

In the trailer you can see how they ape the style from the trailers, and listen carefully to the sound the monster makes. Sounds like they straight up ripped it off Paramount.

Yup.
There was an interview in Empire with the guy who runs it, he admits that they're basically whores but he also says (paraphrasing) "War of the Worlds with Tom Cruise cost 500x more than our version did, are you going to be 500x more entertained by it than our version? I doubt it."
He has a point and I don't honestly see what harm they're doing, if you don't want to see the films, don't see them.

Yup, cash-in. They take advantage of the millions in marketing of the big films, and when people go to blockbuster and such they are very familiar with the mimicking title and cover - from what I read, they sometimes don't even realize it's not the movie in cinemas! It seems hard to believe, but that happens. And with the sales to rental foreign markets, they must be doing a great living!
In the Empire magazine article, one of the studios heads says that sometimes people write him wanting their money back for renting the movie, thinking it was the real deal when obviously it was not!
EDIT: Caerwiden beat me to it!

Oh... Asylum...
Very funny company with aggressive ripp-offs and coming outs at IMDb...
And the trailer!.. Interesting thing is, they've began to make the move after the first Cloverfield trailer, as far as I know, and - folks - they ARE rapid, hehe. And their first title was "Tokyo", but it wasn't such original, special and genial like the new one, hehe

They do work quick! They're great rip off artistes!
"Monster" not to be confused with "Monstrous," of course ... the sound seems exactly similar to that in the trailer!
Great job, even with the SoL head as car getting thrown down the road. They meet schedule.
Only thing I dislike is I imagine well-meaning old people ( say my 72 year old dad ) getting confused and buying it thinking its Cloverfield ... not that this situation would occur, but that's the kind of scenarios I imagine accounting for expenditures.

I actually did a lot of research into this company for my undergrad. It's a fairly interesting approach, and it shows how uninformed a lot of people are when they rent their Pirates movies and wonder where Johnny Depp is.

Hey Professor Jackass!
What's amusing is that the guy in the "Pirates of the Carribbean" rip-off looks like Johnny Depp!
Also, the way this is "uncensored" is another way to confuse people, "Oh, this must've been the director's vision that they couldn't show due to Ratings."
PS Love your name, whenever I talk to you folks will think I'm being pissy, when I'm not! Well played.

Man, Lance Henriksen's career has gone down the crapper. It seems that every month he's in a new low budget movie that'll end up on the SciFi channel.
