 		[SPEC] People taking photos after the monster has gone past?
I noticed this scene in the Official Trailer:


People are just standing round taking photos!
Previously, I assumed this was before people knew there was a giant monster walking round the city, but after the Widget Clip, it must be from after the monster has walked past, so it seems a bit strange that nobody is running for their lives. Maybe word hasn't spread that this is a giant animal attacking the city yet?

It's a bit sketchy, but I think this is the building, it's taken from very near where the head lands on the same street, so it could be very early on in the film.

 		Did you see the widget? The SOL's head lands in the middle of the street and there are at least three guys taking photos of it with their camera phones as if it was a common occurence. They're not freaking out or anything, but rather just do the equivalent of "Oh, cool!" *snap!*

If the SOL's head landed in front of me, I'd be hiding under a desk in New Jersey before it rolled to a stop.

I think it's a brilliant commentary on our culture. When a man in the UK beats and pees on a dying woman while saying, "This should be on Youtube!" I have no trouble believing that people's first reaction wouldn't be to run, but to get the video and send it to CNN.

How ppl in our society feels the urge to document everything.

On video, People saw the wave coming and stood and Watched, our culture has a facade of security and safety, people dont believe they are in danger.

Absolutely, but I'm saying that this part is after a giant monster has just stomped its way down the street, not an inanimate object coming to a rest.
They don't seem very threatened, that's all.
But then again, HUD's going to be filming the whole thing, so maybe it makes sense.

Actually, that was 2004 (time flies), but that's a good point. People were hiding up in trees to escape the water, but were still snapping photos and taking video of the approaching flood.

I imagine the movie might also show quite a bit of people talking and texting on cell phones. Nowadays, people seem to have cellphones grown to their ears or thumbs. It may even be a source of background info for the characters as they talk to people who might be away from the immediate danger area who are seeing news reports and filling them in on what is happening.

 		This has been mentioned in numerous interviews already I believe. Something to do with media-saturation was it? They're going for the whole realistic feel, so why not include what seems to be the norm of society these days?

I was going to say the same thing. I was also going to point out the irony of the statement as it was made on a public forum where a bunch of people have been documenting the every move of an unreleased film for the past 6 months. But what can I say, I'm one of 'em.

A good example is the Wiki site. I think people don't want to bother updating the Wiki site, because there is no "glory" in it, i.e you don't get to see your own name in lights.

After the first plane crashed into the WTC, people were taking pictures with their camera phone.

After the second plane crashed, people called their families. Then took pictures.

After the buildings fell, people ran.

While taking pictures of smoke.

First thing that popped in my head when i saw that clip was 9/11. Not just from the news coverage either. My cousin was there on that horrible day , and with, of all things , his camera. He and from what it looks like from the tape i saw , dozens of other people were filming those events, before and leading up to the first tower coming down, then they ran like hell. Thats just the people i could see on the tape, those that were there around him. God only knows how many across the city were doing that. Just another one of those things to add a sense of realism to it, and in my opinion, a damn good job of doing it
