But wouldn't prior ricochets make noise? All that was heard before the SoL's head hits 401 Broadway is the monster's roar and the noise of it flying through the air (making a whooshing noise)

Also take into account there are a lot of cuts in the footage. What we see may take 15 seconds on film, but may have been 5-10 minutes in "reality." they clearly didn't make it from the roof to the street in 2 seconds.

The head being thrown to the bit where they go and hide in the shop is all one take, or at least it appears to be.

(There's probably a cut when the camera zooms in on the head, but that would just be to make it easier to film.)

All that we heard so far. We dont know if there were prior ricochets yet. There very well may have been, but either our friends havent heard them, or they didnt make that much noise.

Well, GP coms out of the water at the SOL and thinks its a real person. Its pretty big so he attacks it, tears off its head and continues on his way towards the bright lights and big city.. on the way, like an apple, he has a bite to taste it. Realizing it tastes like shit and not food, he roars in displeasure, then flings it in disgust as he nears land and there you have it. He's already steamin mad since his first mortal meal was tasteless.

I brought up the speed of GP last week when the second trailer came out and I noticed that when Rob and co run into the shop from the street where we see GP for a sec and then a crumbling building, ol GP arrives outside the store in a few steps from many blocks away. he gets there about the same time as the smoke and debris from the fallen buildings. This beast hauls ass..

You have to account for it's size as well when accounting for distance traveled. 2.5 miles might just be a couple of steps for something as tall as a skyscraper.

bingo... was waiting for someone to say that...
ants can travel xxxMPH from one spot to the other and we take one step and make it there OBVIOUSLY a lot faster... catch my drift? :-p

You're also assuming that he threw it straight at the building, like a frickin bullet. He could have throw it at a very high angle (just in the general direction of the city).
Regardless, i don't think he threw the SoL head from liberty island, though i do think that it could travel 200+ mph underwater.

Maybe MGP can fly too? Diving at 200MPH for a bird... think about a 5,000,000 ton lion.

Here's another way to estimate the monster's speed. A six foot tall human walks at an average speed of about 3 M.P.H., with an average step length of about 2.5 feet (according to wikipedia). If we assume the monster were also a biped (not confirmed of course, just an assumption) that took the same average number of steps per minute as a human, then their speed could be determined as follows:

3 miles per hour = (3 miles/hr x 5280 ft)/(60 min/hr) = 264 ft per minute

264 ft/min / 2.5 ft/step = 105.6 steps per minute

OK. Let's assume Mr. Grumpypants is about 200 feet tall. If he were proportioned similarly to our 6 foot tall man, his average step length would be:

200 ft / 6 ft * 2.5 ft/step = 83.3 ft/step

If, like our man, he was able to make 105.6 steps per minute, then his speed would be:

105.6 steps/minute * 83.3 ft/step = 8800 ft/min

This translates into"

8800 ft/min / 5280 ft/mile * 60 min/hr = 100 MPH

Based on several assumptions, therefore, if Mr. Grumpypants were to just stroll at a normal pace down Broadway, he'd be moving along at 100 M.P.H. It would take tremendous energy to move his big ol' legs (or whatever) at a speed of 105.6 steps per minute, but the point is clear that his normal walking speed would seem very fast to us.

now multiply your results by around 3. Because Grumpypants is probably more like 600 feet tall.

Nice math man, but GP is supposed to be 3x that tall so really he would take up 250 feet per step I ddin't feel like wipping out a calc to do the rest of the math Very Happy

2nd off, nice going with the math there Doug. The question is though... is the thing truely Bipedal?

Either way, something THAT BIG is going to move extremely fast in relation to humans. In the trailer it looked like it was bookin it through the buildings.
