They did a pretty good job with the crashing and screaming part though. Despite the crappy camera-glitch-effects.

cash-in? you mean people actually spend their money on these?
Yup.
There was an interview in Empire with the guy who runs it, he admits that they're basically whores but he also says (paraphrasing) "War of the Worlds with Tom Cruise cost 500x more than our version did, are you going to be 500x more entertained by it than our version? I doubt it."
He has a point and I don't honestly see what harm they're doing, if you don't want to see the films, don't see them.
For shits and giggles I netflixed the C Thomas Howell / Asylum knockoff of War of the Worlds...not only could you tell that it cost 1/500th of the Spielberg version, but I trully felt more stupid after watching it...Even the Tinarie Van Wyk-Loots topless scene didn't add to the entertainment value...avoid these asylum knockoffs at all costs...
I'm quite surprised they didn't name their flick 1-15-08...they love to use the "similar but different" name infringement technique...it gets people every time when they are picking up the latest "new release" from blockbuster

I think rhesusmonkeyboy might have been thinking of the softcore porn film titled, "Pirates". Not the asylum film. Still funny though if people ever rent the porn one on accident.

Man, Lance Henriksen's career has gone down the crapper. It seems that every month he's in a new low budget movie that'll end up on the SciFi channel.
Yeah, really pity, what's happen to him... I liked him so in "Millennium"... And now he is downstairs at Asylum makin low budget rip offs...

I'm sorry, but I don't really remember that part of the book or the 1950s movie. Gonna have to do some... er... research.

How do I.. get an audition there??? Seriously, can you imagine how much fun it would be to make crappy movies ripping off your favorite scenes of all time?
Reminds me of all the videos we used to make with the other kids in the neighborhood growing up...back when cuts were done using the rewind and pause buttons!
Ha ha ha! I love it!
