I'm inclined to let things develop a few more days before we commit to something. I'd hate to bee named after a minor character or something....but beestmaster is appealing as long as we can skip the cover art Surprised

You got something against Marc Singer? He who uttered the immortal line, "That is no vulture. That is my eagle."?

Well, my vote is for BeeKeepers. Mostly because I like the sound of it, though here's some support: In the original Halo, the Masterchief is frequently refered to as 'reclaimer' by 343GuiltySpark. Since Halo is something of a holding-pen/really-big-gun loaded with the flood (which some have already speculated the bees represent) and Halo itself was built by the 'forerunners', I think BeeKeepers fits pretty well. And if the bees instead represent humanity, it still fits as the Chief is protecting Earth. Just a few thoughts.

I'll second that. Good argument.

The problem is, all your "support" is complete spec because we have no idea what the Halo link is to this game.

Yeah, what if this turns into a Garfield the cat ARG? /me shudders Wink

I wouldn't mind Beestmasters as long as we only refer to the horrible TV show rather than the movie. Rolling Eyes

Well, yes, it is speculation. This early in the game, how could it not be? That being said, quite a bit of text bears striking resembelences to the Cortana Letters as well as certain characters and events (however, I'll admit that I'm far less read up on this than many others Razz). And I called it support instead of evidence for the simple reason that evidence suggests a modicum of fact, of which I have none. Anyway, it all seems moot to me since we're doing the name selection long before any real solid developments arise. I'll stick with the BeeKeepers Raspberry.

Beekeepers is nice, but I think 'The 7th Hive' would be a little more poetic, and an acknowledgement that we are playing Bungies game (the recurrance of the number 7, multiples of 7 and powers of 7 is their calling card) here.

Just an idea though. Has a nice epic ring to it.
And it'd be extra cool for if someone does phone up Dana or whatever. "Hello. I'm an investigator from The 7th Hive." Very Happy

So, call us BeeKeepers and be done with it! It doesn't matter that it has no connection with Halo 2 because the names rarely do.

Take the Cloudmakers. There is NO connection with A.I. in that name, or hell... even in the first site or two. The fact is, the name was known to anyone who actually had any interest in the Beast and that was the important thing.

We have a simple name, easily identified by others who understand the game. It's already in use by a number of people (need I restate that the IRC room is #beekeepers) and is becoming more well known. Don't bother changing it now, we'll lose momentum and just confuse people.

I suggest Xbalanqués, because it stands out and is easily recognizable. Xbalanqué was a mayan hero, he was a hunter (we hunt clues), scribe (we need to do serious research), and magician, but also had the role of beekeeper and possibly the patron of the beekeepers.

if not, that's cool... I just wanted to give it a shot.
