And hopefully Cloverfield 2 will involve a much more unconfusing and confirmed ARG.

I'm hoping there's not a sequel, but i'm hoping that it doesn't die. What kind of amazing monster movie would it be if america can destroy the monster? I don't want a feel good "yay america dominates everything" kind of movie. *cough* war of the worlds *cough*

Hopefully JJ intends this to be a stand alone movie. EVERY movie doesn't have to have a sequel.

That being said, Cloverfield 2 will be a Sci-Fi movie of the week in 2010.

Uhh... I don't understand what you mean at the end...

The U.S. military got dominated by the Marz peoplez. They died in the end cause of the Cold.

If that's not what you mean, than, yes, War of the Worlds was actually a better example of an invincible enemy than many other movies.

LOL

I meant i don't want a movie that is meant to propel americanism (which is what a lot of monster movies end up being...a terrifying monster is defeated by american will and strength...look at independence day for example).

War of the Worlds portrayed the idea that, being the world's sole superpower, the U.S. was unable to stop the Marzianz, and that all hope was lost. The whole point of the story was to portray the idea that there was nothing, not guns, not armies, not Americanism, that could stop the Marzianz. I understand what you mean, but I think War of the Worlds doesn't actually fit in with what you're trying to say...

Independence Day, on the other hand, is a perfect example. I concur with you there.

You're right on WotW, i jumped the gun there. Germs killed em...not Uncle Sam.
I love independence day, don't get me wrong. I think there is a place for those kind of movies that promote that kind of mentality. This movie, however, doesn't look like it should do that. A movie in which the monster decapitates our symbol of liberty shouldn't promote Americanism. It should show that this is an unstoppable force. It dying to a couple bombs would be lame-o.

Unless those couple of bombs are of the multi-kiloton variety!

Well, JJ Abrams did mentions something about creating an original "American" idea, like Godzilla is for Japan...

I think it might swing that way in the end... but there is a lot of evidence supporting that the ending is unhappy... I dunno, at this point it could swing either way.

I don't think there's any way that grumps will be defeated unless the american government decides to start a nuclear winter.

This is a big beast who we're assuming came from the depths of the ocean. Living in that kind of pressure.. I doubt any kind of weaponry will have any effect besides nukes.

That's exactly what I theorized. The whole Extremophile thing.

Well, to be honest... if we had our own Godzilla...

O.G. dies because of the Oxygen Destroyer... think about it, it removed all the oxygen from the water, killing EVERYTHING in the water around japan, fish are a huge part of japan's economy if I'm not mistaken. Would nuking NYC be so different for america?

Nuking NYC would have a much larger effect. MUCH.
