i'm bumping this so it can be seen and discussed

Houston, I Think We Have a Problem...

as mentioned in the above post, there seems to either be a hacker or a glitch in the system, i have seen 5 people on the list in the top 5 that just shot up there

Lordblaco was never on the list before, atleast not in the top 20, and now he's first with 1000 grabs

Dawny and viper 1k, was on the list before, but in a small range, about 50-150 grabs, now they are both up there in grabs in just a short amount of time

Lust the Jack of Hearts was the same as Lordblaco as they was never seen in the top 20 before, now they have 675 in just 8 hours

Roboticpoop is the same and the other newcomers, never before seen in the top 20, now they have 463 in 8 hours, but i checked 2 hours later and they then had 633, i then refreshed the page 20 minutes later to see they had now 653

i have screengrabs of them aswell, at 12:17AM EST, 8:37AM EST, and 10:47AM EST all today, 12/19/07

Well, the widget I have on my site it not the one I originally "grabbed" from the contest site. Paramount asked me to take that one down, then emailed me a new script to use when the contest "officially" started.

I've emailed them about the discrepancies, but I haven't gotten a response.

IMO, the leader board should have links to where eveyones widgets are, so you can see who these people really are.

Has your number of grabs gone up at all since the podcast? It was 300 and something back then, wasn't it? Seems strange to me.

Hmm. Imperfect, obviously, but too soon to cry. FWIW, I have what I thought was a widget with your id here: http://11808.blogspot.com/2007/12/more-footage.html

Grabs on it don't match yours or those on the leaderboard. Let me know if you'd like me to edit it.

The number of Dennis' grabs were in the mid 400s by the end of the call (listen to the last 5 minutes or so of the podcast, I mentioned it randomly in the conversation). So, either way, the number on the leaderboard is WAY off.

well, one could technically make a said amount of myspaces... each from a different computer, and grab from your site over and over again...

would ideally be accomplished in a college campus computer lab (each comp has a diff ip)

That's just how I would go about doing it if i were obsessed enough

ya seriously, i googled him and the only meaningful result i got was a comment of his looking for the source code:

"LordBlaco Says:

December 13th, 2007 at 7:43 pm

Where do you get the code from? for the widget?"

its a comment on slashfilm: http://www.slashfilm.com/2007/12/13/new-cloverfield-video-revealed-viral-contest-launched/#comment-141303

maybe he wrote a script to "fake" grabs? doesn't seem like paramount is trying too hard to make this legit.

sigh.

anyways, is dennis's grab counter broken? because he SHOULD be in first place with his 1990+ grabs.

A high traffic website could surpass that in a day. :\

I would consider SlashFilm or AintItCoolNews pretty high traffic sites (over 1 million visits per month), yet they are not in the top 6, so something else is going on...

Anyway, a "grab" is different than a "share", meaning for it to count on the leader board, someone not only has to grab it, but they need to put it up on their site as well.

I have seen script like this before, in contests even. It is not that uncommon. You must simply call it to the attention of the overseers, or whatever you flesh bags call them, and have them check into it.
