The phrase "protocol ancestor" here intrigues me. I interpret that it possibly indicates that the AI sees the TCP/IP traffic as an ancestor to its' network architecture, which would support the spec that this involves Durandal or another Marathon AI time-traveler. It honestly reminds me of the ship from Crichton's Sphere more than anything, but that's probably my relative awareness of that title in comparison to the Marathon universe.

Other people on IRC countered by arguing that the "ancestor" term related to some sort of recursive structure in its' own communications packets, but I'm not sold on that yet.

Thoughts?

Far, far too simplistic, I believe.

If it were that obvious, then would we be realising now (after days of thought) that there's a poetical story telling us in filtered terms what the computer code means? I doubt it.

One other '7' connection

678223072849 as the size of master-sector

is 7^14

Bungie loves to drop '7' references in Halo and their other games (eg, the mentally-unstable AI, "343 Guilty Spark" - 7^3=343)

Hmmm.... a widow who is a spider? That wouldn't make her a black widow spider, would it?

A good idea not to tick her off, then...

Hold up! Ofcourse the widow is the spider/SPDR. This has been obvious from the start. Nobody has yet to mention that a spider moves through its web, which is a nice analogy to www.

Looking at all the code and comparing it to unix is somewhat misleading. I think one should just read it and compare it to the fabel as xnbomb did. I have come to the conclusion that the grammar for the "language" is inconsistent if you look at the way the SPDR modifies the timetochina.js script:
- the scripts usually seem to issue a command with !, and the immediate reply is echoed next.
- however with the scriptmodification it does !analyze, and gets the time echoed. then it does a !put, and the new time is echoed back.

If we were to analyze the grammar of the script, it can therefore be shown to be incosistent. So, my conclusion is to read the scripts and digest their meaning - there is no consistent underlying grammar.

On a side-note, the bite part is ofcourse a reference to the fight with the manticore, so it fits perfectly.

It does seem an intentional play on words. Bungie like those - subtle or no - a good example coming to mind now would be the SPNKR-class rocket launcher weapon in Halo Very Happy

AIM

Has anyone tried to IM kvmickey59 (person who posted their AIM id in a response in Dana's blog) I haven't seen them online yet, and there isn't any personal info available from AOL. Googling them is no good either. If none of the people who responded are real, that AIM id might be something to look into.

Just someone trying to get involved. I don't think we should look at the comments at all for any information. The reason being is that the comments can be posted by just about anyone and their dogs (assuming they have some kind of superintelligent dogs that can type)... the PMs will give us real information via legit sources that only they can really access such as websites or emails to everyone who has contacted the hotmail and/or gmail accounts.

Don't put any stock in the blog comments, there is no evidence that they are valid or connected in any way. Infact, there is a great bit of reason to assume they are other people who want to screw around.

no, Newguy is right...

Just like xnbomb was obviously planted as a means to further the story, so must be anyone who can be determined as potentially not existing in the real world, such as those posters on the ilovebees blog (see my post above). They must therefore be investigated. If you don't believe me, check xnbombs posts both here an on the blog. I don't believe he is one of us, or in the most is being led to believe he is discovering these things by someone who isn't. I mean...

xnbomb: "It seems that snippets of various emails that have been sent to you by my colleagues have been reassembled and sent back, apparently originating from your aunt's hotmail address.  I'm not really sure what it means at this point.  But it tells us that we can communicate with these entities using email.  In the absence of having a clear idea of just what is going on, the first priority is to communicate, that is how we can learn more.  It's at least possible that we've stumbled across something extraordinary here, and our first priority must be to learn all that we can about it."

What is clear by this almost believable message to Dana is that xnbomb is leaving us clues, acting as one of us to move the plot along.

But it is also clear that only those forms of communication that are widely exploited will be played out. And perhaps this AIM member didn't flesh out early enough for the story.

One thing I can't figure out, is why Dana is deleting messages left my "Cortana" on the more recent comments in her blog. I DO know it was genius for Bungie to create Dana, the pentultimate geek fantasy (smart AND sexy).

You are incorrect, sir. Xnbomb is a long-standing member of this forum, and I personally vouch for his authenticity. This does not mean, however, that the PMs cannot incorporate his input in order to further the game. It just makes it that much cooler.

To re-iterate what SpaceBass said - xnbomb is not "planted". Here is his profile on this board. His is quite a brilliant guy, whose suggestions to Dana made so much sense to "her" that she decided to quote him on her blog (though first asking his permission).

He is actually quite known for this kind of thing. In another game he played (Project MU), he made a speculation that, I guess, was so appealing to the PMs that they sort of incorporated it into the game (that Leak was AI) - krystyn or Space, fell free to correct me here Smile

My point is that nothing can be taken at face value, and it should be assumed that anything that cannot be verified by fact should be considered as part of the game. Even the profiles of long-standing members of forums that are known to be linked to similar situations in the past, a rather small feat of database manipulation I might add, should be suspect. Not that it isn't fun playing, just that nothing should be easily dismissed as a potential clue.

Wink

This forum is out of game, full stop. I'm not working for or with the PMs and I'm slightly resentful of your suggestion.

easy, friend

I appologize, but I did not mean to attack you in any way. I only mean that nothing should be assumed.

Wouldn't you agree?

If I was a conspiracy theorist, I might think you were being too defensive.
