[Resource] Reverse Lookup
Check before you dial!

Since we seem to have a lot of people making phone calls on guesses, I'd like to introduce anywho.com's reverse lookup service. This should save us calling numbers that don't work, with the added benefit of giving us the name they're registered to. Any number we come up with ought to be listed through that service; I doubt the PMs would have an unregistered number as an IG source. Further, the name that comes up is important- Betty Smith of Bumblescrew, Nebraska probably doesn't know much about Tagruato. Really, this is about courtesy; we've been lucky so far, but the time is coming when we get someone out of bed and piss them off badly (and if we're lucky, it'll be only one of us that does it...). Be kind, reverse lookup your numbers before you dial! John and Jane Doe don't like getting up at 3am for your wrong numbers any more than you do. Smile

Edit: stickied.

[EDIT] De-stickied to clean up the sticky-section a bit --Gisk

[edit 5/5/17 - note that link does not work, substitute link emailed to admin did not work either - kona]

I'd like to add something of a guideline I posted in another thread about people thinking they've found numbers and calling them:

OK, here's a simple way to decide if a phone number is supposed to be called in an IG sense:
1. The number is clearly posted on an IG site.
2. The number is part of said site's Contact page, or is listed in the whois for said same site.
3. The phone number when searched using reverse phone lookup doesn't come back with someone's home or a business that has a real address and location, and especially a real website that falls under the clearly OOG conditions ( as explained here ).

Please note that we've only had valid phone numbers from the IG sites that were in plain view, listed as contact information.

www.whitepages.com has a reverse lookup also. FYI.

Yeah, there are a few of them out there. Anywho's is the one I use most often, so I posted that one, but any of them will do the job.

Excellent thoughts as usual, Euchre. Thanks for putting that in here.
