You could run the numbers for whatever height you wanted to assume, but where are you guys coming up with a number of 600 feet for the monster's height?

In the clip, we see the monster apparently kind of plow through the lower part of the Woolworth Building. That building is 792 feet tall. If a 600 foot tall monster body-slammed a 792 foot tall building, the building would be pulverized and knocked over like a stack of soda cans. Instead, what we see in the clip is that it collapses straight down, pancaking on itself very similar to what happened to the WTC towers on 9/11. To me, this implies that the monster kind of tore through the lower floors of the building, fatally weakening the structure, which then caused it to collapse. He seems big enough and strong enough to punch big holes in the buildings, but not so tall that he just pushes them down.

I realize my assumptions are all based on just a few frames of video, and could be totally off but I don't have much else to go on right now.

Well he is supposed to be the size of a skyscraper so the general assumption is between 500-600 feet tall

Also, his size can be *ASSUMED* from the damage done to the Statue of liberty.

Someone on one of the other threads did the math when that clip first came out. In relation to the actual size of the building around the woolworth building and the woolworth itself, they determined that Grumpy would be between 400 and 500 feet tall

Sorry, looked for a link to that thread but alas could not find one. Embarassed

This sounds about right, from what we've seen of him so far at least.

have any of you ever seen a giant monster? let alone clocked its speed?

what about this........maybe there's more time then we think!

there could be more footage of them standing in the street, like in the tv spot where one of the women says "what is that?!" while they're in the street, that shot isn't in the 5 minute preview, they could just take a little out so that the preview was 5 minutes long and had a good place to end like the windows in the store blowing in.

also, what about that whole its a movie thing?

You mean the scene where you hear "WHAT IS IT? IS IT COMMING THIS WAY?!?!" Because that scene is indeed in there. However, that and the imfamous alive/lion line are both removed.

Yea, actually now that I review the Statue of Liberty's height, which from ground level to the tip of the torch is 305 feet, I could envision a height more on the order of what you guys were mentioning. I guess a 200 foot tall monster with arms (or other appendages) of reasonable length could reach up and snatch off the SOL head, but in general it does imply a greater height.

Ok, so we see the monster disappear behind the Woolworth building. If it's close enough to collapse it, that means you can use the building as a bit of a reference. My SWAG (scientific wild a-- guess) is that it's at least as half as tall as the building. The building itself is almost 800 foot tall at its top, so we're looking at a 400 foot tall monster at least!

Yeah, I could see that leaning over and taking off the SOL's head like a chocolate bunny at Easter. Yeah, I said bit it off...based on the damage seen in the newest clips. I'm guessing it chomped the head off, chewed on it a bit as it strode into NYC, then spit it out or chucked it as it came towards the Woolworth building.

Another nifty fact to point out has to do with the inspiration for Cloverfield. Godzilla throughout the years has varied in height, but he's never been shown as over 400 foot tall. He's been as small as 50 meters (167 ft) to as tall as 100 meters (334 ft). That means Mr GP would have a serious height advantage over the big G in a monster fight!

It is certainly enormous, even by giant monster standards!
The thing is, at the size it appears, it seems like it would be too big to even walk down a wide street, unless he's ridiculously skinny.

Here's my latest monster walking past:

If he's anything like that, there's no way he could walk down a single street, he'd be several blocks wide, knocking down everything in his path Shocked

what if he can jump really high, and he has claws on his feet or hands (obviously either or) and he somehow plowed thru/bounced off the SOL head and he just went onto land, causing an earthquake or something, and the head went farther than he went because it's smaller. Just sayin

And why not...
The girth/weight/velocity and momentum of a creature of that magnatude, would, im sure just take out whatever is in its path...
*Lets try and take a guess at MGP's weight....um, now that is just off the scale...

Finally we are starting to make sense. As I said in another post Mr. Grumpypants will be between 350-450 feet tall, maybe 500 but that is stretching it. He could not be taller than that because as DougBThree put it:
Quote:
Geez, if the monster was that big, the SOL head would be about the size of a TicTac relative to its mouth! It could just spit it like a watermelon seed.

Now can someone please explain this to me?

Quote:
Leaving aside the laws of gravity that would force it to collapse over itself.

I am not understanding the assumption that nothing can grow that big or else gravity will make it collapse on itself? I know a skyscraper is not organic like Mr. G but a skyscraper does not collapse under it's own weight unless it is weakened. There are trees that grow over 200 feet tall. I understand that they are dense wood however flesh and bone are very strong. Especially in something as big as our monster.
