I have lowered the pitch a bit and the speed a little, now you can definitely make out the rest of it, and yes I agree... that's definitely what it says. I just showed it to my girlfriend and she didn't want to believe it because it was too spooky Smile

Listening to the file above with the text in front of me, it does sound believable, but could you possibly uypload your version with the changed pitch and speed?

To me, the last word sounds like "you" and possibly before that "without". So maybe ..."Help me, please (blah blah blah blah blah) without you" ?

certainly. I have only included the latter part (get me out) though, because the "help me" part sounds better in the other version.

OK, it played once, and then suddenly stopped, so I hit play again on Media Player, and um, it started playing "I'm Bugged," by XTC.

Stop that, Universe.

Shocked

... this might be more than a game. when I came back from getting a pack of cigarettes earlier, I walked through the dark hallway back to our apartment and I swear I heard the humming of bees in the distance...

edit: it could also be saying "help me out" instead of get... not that it matters...
also, although it's probably too distorted to really be sure, I think the voice sounds female and childish...

Interpretation

Sounds to me like, "Help me... Please, someone's trying to <garbled>"

I've been playing with the bees1.wav file for a while now in the open source program "audacity" and "wavesurfer". I'm pretty sure there is a computer altered voice hidden behind the bee sounds, but most of it is pretty garbled. From what I have done, I think it says" Hello, my name is... " and then it's too garbled. I've just been running it through at normal speed start to end, just trying to remove noise, and change pitch, but I'm not an audio engineer, so there's only so much I can do. Somebody with real software and knowhow should be able to make out much more. It does seem to be 2 phrases though, the name and then possibly a warning?

The last second in Midian's version sounds much like the first second... either "Hello" or "Help" depending on whom you believe.

So far we have

"Help me. Please. Get me out of here"

and

"Hello my name is (something) hello"

**assuming** we're not barking up the wrong tree. Has anyone tried listening to **actual** bee sounds to see if they sound like this? Rolling Eyes

I was thinking the same thing. It's difficult to know what's really noise and what isn't, which makes filtering the noise out very difficult.

I looked around on Google for 'bees1.wav' and got two references - here and on a University of Texas. Unfortunatley, the site does not actually have the 'bees1.wav' file, it's simply iinstructions on setting up a series of sound files for an composed work (?).

The specific refernce is:
Quote:

;use bees1.wav (soundin.505) as a test audio file
i01 + 10 .01 505 118 6 .25

The document starts with
Quote:

;Use thewind.wav (soundin.500) as a test audio file
;Use Howard Fredric's impulse files from Sweden

The actual file is http://ems.music.utexas.edu/dwnld/sco/convolve.sco.

So is the original source file out there for someone to find? Is it part of a sound library?

In theory, Dana would have found the audio files from someplace on the net. Think it'd be possible to ask her for the originals?

Sounds like a good idea to me.

Authentic queen piping sounds for comparison

Here are two known-authentic queen piping sound files for comparison:

Well, I believe I've found the original sound file. It, like the bees1.wav is mp3 encoded. It is located at http://www.christiananswers.net/kids/audio/bee.mp3. You can compare the two files in something like goldwave and see that they are extremly similar (and audibly similar). Obviously more has been done to the flie other than simply adding the computery sound/voice to the background. It appears to have been bandpassed at some threshold. Anyway having this file might help those who are in the know.
