Lost Books of History

While another web-based game promoting a books by author Ted Dekker, this site, Books of History.com is announcing what hopes to be a campaign that includes a lot of story and plot as the background for the competition... along the lines of Case of the Coveted Bottle, it says there will be weekly prizes and the grand prize of a 2008 Chevy Cobalt.

But really what grabs my attention is
Quote:
In Ted Dekker's latest simultaneous releases, Chosen and Infidel, four young warriors from the world of Black, Red and White are sent on a quest to find seven lost Books of History. Books with the power to create and destroy. Books that control not only the destiny of their world…but ours as well. In 2008, that quest comes to our world.

Get ready for a nationwide treasure hunt like no other that blurs the line between fiction and reality in a search for the actual Lost Books. Registration for the game begins in January and the search launches in March. What awaits those who rise to the challenge? An online quest that will test their wits, and plunge them into a world of espionage and ancient secrets where nothing is as it seems and the truth is the most dangerous discovery.

Which of course is all PR spin Razz but it sounds more like there will be some depth and storytelling involved, rather than just straightforward competition for prizes.
I'm actually already curious to check out the books Razz

Registration is scheduled to close in January and the 'hunt' to begin in March.

eta: ahh, I knew I recognized the name. heh, I own the book Black - bought it long ago, began reading, and haven't finished. bah. I'll have to get reading again I guess.

Very interesting. I wonder how necessary it will be to have read both of the new books?

In any event, I'm going to watch this one.

Ted Dekker is my favorite Author, his books are awesome!

The two new ones starting the "lost books" series are great especially if you liked Black, Red, and White, you will want to tread those to get a full understanding of the story. I'd recommend reading Showdown, Saint and Skin as well.

I really love how a whole bunch of his books all tie in to each other. It's like a big mystery you're trying to figure out that involves all the books.

Anyways I signed up for this contest too, and when I did I remmebered this forum (I came here awhile back when I was playing some ARG) and thought I'd come see if anyone saw this contest come up. =)

Ha, that is my problem as well. Too many good books, not enough time! I had never actually heard of Ted Dekker, I guess because I never really venture into the religious fiction section of the bookstore. I have a tendency to think of that section as being the "Gospel according to Tim Lahaye & Jerry B. Jenkins" section. But this series sounds pretty interesting, so I'll check it out. Kind of reminds me of the PC game Myst, with the books as the plot device and all. Neat stuff.

Um, what this post has to do with the aforementioned contest, I'm not sure. Laughing But anyway, the contest sounds pretty interesting too. I'll check it out as well.

the way I understand a lot of that quality reilgious fiction literarture (I don't really read much at all, let alone from that genre, so I'm just going on reviews and comments I've seen =) is that many authors works themselves rival those in thesecular market - content-wise, they can be pretty extreme, but the main thing is there's usually an underlying theme or parallel coming from the religious background; but one could read it and not necessarily get that. On the contrary, I think people find the to be more free or open about religious aspects of life in secula literature (you generally don't see direct reference to christian themes (neutral, at least) outside, say, catholic church or mass and whatnot).
So it is very possible to find very quality fiction in the religious section, without being either preached at or finding that the literary quality is pure cheese Razz
AFAIK, Dekker's books are in that (the former) category.
I've got to finish reading Black soon... wheredoes the time go? Razz

You really should restart and finish that book, thebruce... and read the other two while you're at it. I enjoyed them very much.

Free chapters

I am just watching this at this point - and noticed that the game will be starting soon. They are looking for more people to sign up and anyone that forwards an e-mail to a friend, per their instructions and that friend signs up, they give out free chapters of the book (depending on how many friends you get to sign up) and other prizes (sets of books)
