I suspect if we dig deeply enough, we'll find that part, or all of this is actually graphics lifted from elsewhere. I do a fair bit of this 'remixed' graphical work myself in Photoshop, and if you use quality original media and quality methods it will look like an original work. It is not truly original art in the sense that it is not fabricated from nothing, even though the result may be a totally new and unique image. Because it's possible to lift such images and combine them into something that appears new, don't assume someone that it really is an original creation.

Your final point is the one that really does suggest that this falls into the category "too good to be true". As we know that last statement is often part of a larger one: If it looks/sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
The mentality of the gamejacker is that if we are given exactly what we speculate as the profound discovery, we'll be too distracted with 'Wow, I'm so smart' to notice the other things that it is that don't fit with everything else we know.

Humans want to feel like they are clever and to celebrate their ingenuity - so they want such tantalizing evidence to be true. They become personally attached to things that would tend to support their ideas, to the point of disregarding contradictory evidence. They don't readily give up what they want something to be, and accept what it is demonstrated to be.

Only problem I have with this, the ENTIRE THING is drawn in the exact same style. It would take a HELL of a lot of time to combine things and make them all look the same.
I'm no stranger to photoshop myself either.

This is becoming complex. Razz This is also probably the type of response the OPer intended to get. He hasn't replied or responded since that time. He hasn't even shown up. I think it's safe to assume that this thread is no longer valid. We were not presented this by a standing member, and there are no sources or reasons to make us otherwise believe that the picture in front is authentic. We have nothing to base it on. Anyone with decent talent could've made that... heck, even Euchre (lol, tis only a joke). Who knows what it is, but lets find out in the real way, as in if someone ever actually stumbles across it.

I'm sure this person's had nothing but time... I mean, look at our "Whale monster" [the O.G. of fan art for Cloverfield]. I mean, that was REALLY detailed, and sure it was before we knew too much, but with all that we knew, for all that we learned before it, that WAS the Cloverfield monster. It even had size ratios, even for the smaller monsters. I'd almost say that the artist of that picture put more effort his fanart, than this person put into their design.

Actually this 'style' is a very popular one in the recent past. This style of graphical rendering is seen in iPod ads (and Lugz ads for that matter Cool ), graphics used on TechTV and G4, and yes - even by Target. I don't know of a name for it, but it's basically it's own genre of simplified rendering of shapes. I think you'd find that a couple of Photoshop's included filters can achieve this basic look fairly easily. What it doesn't match well is the dark, smokey, and fairly unique colors of the promotional graphics so far. The poster is the most obvious example, and basically all of the official sites promoting the film have used variations on the motif of the poster. This just doesn't follow that, and as I said before - being labeled as 'style guide' suggests that this is supposed to demonstrate what style to follow when creating graphics relative to the movie.

I, for one, am hoping this is NOT the monster.
I just don't like the design...it still looks too much like Godzilla.
But, if this turns out to be the monster, I'll just get over it.

Anyway, if the OP was looking for attention, he sure got it, in spades.
Enjoy your 15 minutes of fame. Razz

egh... I know, and you know who's to blame for this- our lack of further progression in this ARG/ARE.

We need some new stuff for this backstory.

One saving grace for being surprised if this IS the monster...

It still doesnt explain the need for hazmat suits.

2 things

1. the "save yourself" logo looks very much like the logo used in the 311 album "don't tread on me." I'm stating this strictly from memory as I don't have the cd case in front of me.

2. i must say that there are similar features in the original fan art to this new monster design.

I'm doubting this is real but I like the monster's design.

To further illustrate Euchre's point, here is a link to a style guide I came across a while back. Most of you will recognize this character.

http://www.smokeybear.com/resources/Style_Guide.pdf

The point is, there is little room for interpretation. The OP submitted material doesn't coincide with every other published material.
