I still say fanart. I think it was nicely done. Like others have said, it incorporates a lot of ideas into one picture. This way it captures a wide audience. I can honestly say I have never seen a monster like that before. Nature usually has a pretty basic design for things. All those superfluous appendages make the monster seem a little lame.

I like the use of the chain-link fence. It adds to the whole "keep back", "danger" feeling you would want in a picture of a monster. The birds hauling ass out of town is a nice touch. That is the part of the picture that I feel I have seen before.

Slusho Addict – I like your work. You put my rudimentary stick figure drawing skills to shame.

if that thing IS the monster... then

where in the HELL did it come from???

Wow, I love this question. I like to imagine the possibilities. Personally, I would like to think that it was a life form not native to this planet, carried here and deposited, whether accidentally or on purpose, by some alien space craft or maybe an astronomical event like an asteroid. It may have been undiscovered or buried for hundreds of thousands of years before mankind, maybe Slusho, discovered or unburied it.

Or, it may have been here in some form all along, an evolutionary fluke, isolated, living beneath the earth, maybe in a kind of hibernation as a consequence of a catastrophic geological or astronomical event that had buried it there near the beggining of life's evolution.
If it's anything at all like John Carpenter's The Thing monster, which is my current theory and hope, it would make sense that it would be sprouting limbs, tentacles, and other biological horrific appendages as it sets about infecting, assimilating, and defending itself.

You remember when the guy was saying "It's too late for her now! She's been infected" You remember when you see her sillhoette appear to "explode" as some people call it? I really think that what's going on is, part of the organism infected her and is operating in her blood stream to take over all the cells in her body, Once it reaches enough mass, having absorbed and assimilated most of her body, it attacks the men in the hazmat suits by ejecting itself out of the parts of her it hasn't finished assimilating yet. This is the concept of the creature that I hope this movie is based on.

Such a movie can only have a bleak ending though. The only way you could adequately wipe out such a monster is if it hasn't spread too far yet. Since it was in the ocean, it's likely that it's assimilating all forms of sea life and the sea birds that consume that sea life... and that not all of its biomass clumped together to form the super-monster that ends up knocking off Lady Liberty. And even if, by some miracle, it's isolated to New York and the immediately surrounding area, powerful nukes would be the only way to be sure... What a great idea for a movie Very Happy I just wish I had become a movie director.

As for its strangeness when compared to every other form of life we can compare it to, well, that's just it, we only have ever seen life from our own planet, so who knows how life on other planets might have evolved differently form anything we've ever seen before? Or, taking it a step further, who knows what bizarre forms of life still go undiscovered on our own planet?

Doesn't look like you've read the whole thread. Was mentioned half a dozen times, at least.

the birds:
GOMEDIA?

not that i mean to undermine anyone, but i am a penniless graphic designer.
the birds and skyline are from a GOMEDIA (illustrator) vector pack.

all are easily found through google image search, and i can send you links if you pm me.

basically: i could do this, yet can't live within my means.
a pro-job it is not.

paradus wins.

A quick google search turns up the following:

Look closely, you can find 90% of the elements used.

Case closed. It's a fake.

2 Quick things I noticed. In the trailer the creature did not have a tail that I could see. The one probable thing is the two sets of arms. If you look at the poster there are claw marks up high and down low. This would explaing the two pair of claw marks. Just my two cents

I feel like I need to step in.

THAT IS NOT THE CLOVERFIELD MONSTER.

IT IS A MONSTER FROM THE "ULTRAMAN NEXUS" SERIES, CALLED "BUGBUZEN."

This is the only video of the beastie I could find online.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=o0GIQXsqFss

It's Bugbuzen's evolved form, Bugbuzen Blade (or "Blude" as spelled here. Wacky Japanese). Note the only differences are the blade arms and extra spikes, but that pic at the start of the convo is just fanart of Bugbuzen's original form.

Indeed. Final Nail in the coffin. It's a relief too. Confused
