[HUMOR] Why do we keep calling Mr. Grumpypants a monster?

I think it's unfair we call him a monster.

He could be a very nice 400-500ft creature.

He's just a bit misunderstood.

Yes, my sense of humor is dark and obtuse.

Saying a creature that throws the SoL's head down a street full of people and pushes over a building is just misunderstood is a bit like saying a kid that goes on a shooting rampage at a school is just misunderstood.

I understand them both.
I just wish I knew what pissed them both off so I can go deal with the problem at the source. Only reason we just condemn the monster and kill it is because it doesn't look like us...
Or maybe the monster is really an outcast teenager mutated by Slusho?

I think we should ask ourselves if calling it Grumpypants is helping anything?
Maybe we should call it Happy Unknown Creature - Huck for short?
It does like to 'huck' things after all.

Godbless that name, but i'll be honest- I never really grew attached to it- MGP. I dunno. I mean, it just doesn't seem like a name I would want to give 'our monster.' lol, I know this is dumb but the way I see it is- I want Toho and Japan as a whole to look at our 'Big Bad' and say, "Damn, Godzilla's gonna have a hellova time taking him on." And to have Mr. Grumpy Pantz is like calling a mean dog "Mr. Puffyface" and dressing him in some ridiculous outfit that people feel the need to put their animals in, Good God people don't embarrass yourself and your pets by putting them in those horrible outfits. Have some respect... Sorry, i'm that's a completely different issue/"Pet"-peeve if you will.

It will be interesting to see what the public finally accepts for it's name. Probably Cloverfield or The Cloverfield Monster. I for one love Mr. Grumpypants... I can just see someone's mom yelling "Well... Who's the Mr. Grumpypants this morning, throwing the Statue of Liberty's head across town." And I wonder if JJ would get a slight cringe if the "insane and intense" monster he brought to life get's referred to in such a way Smile

Ultimately I think the public will pic something else.

If MGP does stick, it'll prob. only be within the players of the ARG.

That's the thing though, players of the ARG will probably be the first ones to know of MGP's real name... or at least what they're calling it IG.

If a lion gets loose from the Bronx Zoo and kills 3 people in Central Park, is it a monster? No, it's just a wild animal obeying its instincts in an unfamiliar environment.

The original poster had a very good point. How do we know that this creature isn't just following its instincts?

Malicious intent is not necessary to destroy stuff, he might just be pissed off and/or scared so he lashes out like any animal would.

Well interestingly enough, I left a comment on the Cloverfield MySpace page where I mentioned "MGP" and they didn't post it on the profile. Could just be a fluke, but maybe they are hoping it doesn't stick.

If that lion was alive and huge it would. Monster is not generally a state of morality or purpose. It has to do with the size and appearance of the creature.

The use of the term Monster to mean 'truley evil in thought and deed' is more modern, and adapted from the normal meaning of "Something large and scary"

Heres the official definition, notice our boy (or girl) seems to qualify in at least 5 of these 7 definitions at least
