My christmas gift.... Need help.

Okay, here's the deal. My brother gave me a $50 visa giftcard for christmas, however this particular giftcard will not run as credit, only debit. He didn't give me the pin code. Instead he gave me a 1gb thumb drive with a few files on it. The thumb drive is named "THINKSIMPLE" which he said he customized himself along with the autorun icon. (Attached)

The only other files are the autorun.inf containing:

Code:
[autorun]
icon=autorun.ico

cipher.txt:

Code:
Lig xior iiyo gcptpov. xsja c urpk gi cc rph kjwr fvh g wizi zcs thtsz wr. ibo gprc xm cmy tmjl yrf clt. fyzf my qly.

and key.txt:

Code:

00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 11110100 10100101 11101111 01111010 01000010 01010010 10100100 00100101 00100101 00001111 01001011 00011110 11100100 10001100 00100001 00101010 01000010 01010010 00010000 10000111 10100101 11101111 01111000 01000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 01111111 10000000 00000000 00000000 00000010 00000001 00000000 00000000 00000000 00010011 00110010 00000000 00000000 00000000 10001100 11000100 00000000 00000000 00000010 00000000 00010000 00000000 00000000 00001000 00000000 01000000 00000000 00000000 00100110 00011001 00000000 00000000 00000000 01001111 11001000 00000000 00000000 00000000 10000000 01000000 00000000 00000000 00000001 11111110 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 0000

(the text in the key.txt file was one large string without spaces. I seperated the string into octets for easy viewing and so as not to stretch the page out horribly.)

I've tried converting binary to ascii, hex, oct, and dec. All yielding no results. He said to think simple. I also noticed that the key string if seperated into octets would end with only half an octet. I'm at a complete loss, any ideas?

The cc in the second sentence... I don't think it's rot or a simple cryptogram because I can't think of a 2 letter word with the same letters. I'm not good at this anyway. lol I'll

Sounds like he's replying to a puzzle you gave him.

For the key file. Try looking at it in a different way. Say, 38x18.

Does your brother have a special nickname for you?
Seven letters.
Derogatory in nature. Wink

I'm thinking that this might be a vigenere cipher and the key is solving that binary or maybe it's not binary???

I've seen the 01s used to visually spell out something, like this:

11111111
11000000
11000000
11111111
00000011
00000011
11111111 = S

Putting in 38x 18 DEFINITELY makes a unique pattern especially near the bottom ( makes a distinct oval) I don't know the significance though.

EDIT: I'm a retard... it's a

Thanks guys, once you said the whole 38x18 deal I had it from there. I had to refresh my memory on how the vigenere cipher worked.

Theres a story behind the nickname and it involves a lot of liquor and a leather couch. Smile Halloween parties...
