[SPEC] voodoo parents, voodoo witch doctors source

I googled "Voodoo parents" and "voodoo witch doctors" and "seductive danger" (three of the weird phrases from the email from Aunt Margaret) and came up with this:

http://www.thewavemag.com/pagegen.php?pagename=article&articleid=22182

It's an article about the dangers of Harry Potter, from a Bay Area Internet magazine.

Quote:
No voodoo witch doctors have ever put together a home video warning voodoo parents of the seductive danger of Christian rock.

There's three of the weird words all in one sentence. It's the only page on the internet that has all three terms in one place.

The site has free email subscription, Aunt Margaret's email probably gets it. I'm thinking that's where they came from.[/quote]

I feel strongly that this is where those mystery phrases came from. As to WHY... I have no idea. Other than the fact that this is a Bay Area magazine, there's no obvious link.

Wow now that's an interesting find...

So maybe the simple answer is Margaret had a subscription... and that article was in her inbox - but why would the PMs want to point this out?

The afforementioned article was written by seanbaby (www.seanbaby.com) who, amongst other things, has been known to writes/reviews for Electronic Gaming Monthly (EGM). Also, an editor at EGM, Shawn, (who posts here as EGMShawn) has said that he was one of the few lucky recipients of a package containing the honey and the letters.

So, does seanbaby have anything to do with this? Who knows... it's certainly a compelling connection.

The current issue of The Wave magazine is good through July 27th (Tuesday again!) so it's possible that we'll get a clue here on Tuesday or Wednesday (whenever the new issue comes out).

A strong possibility would be a message buried in their free classifieds.

Great find quazaplat! Smile
Just to confirm it; has anyone asked Dana if Aunt Margaret has a subscription to The Wave Magazine?

Re: [SPEC] voodoo parents, voodoo witch doctors source

I wonder whether "voodoo" is the closest the Operator could get to "varrao," given her limited e-mail resources?

Maybe me?

You know, I use that quote in my sig when I email from home.

Don't quite remember if I left it in all this time. Gee, I'll really be embarrased if I caused this many days of SPEC.

Well that would make more sense than Aunt Margaret having a seanbaby article from a year ago sitting in her inbox.

Now we know.

Could the Voodoo be related to the enchantments in the widows story?

Yeah, let the beatings commence! I totally forgot about my sig, and rarely even think of or look at it. Didn't even occur to me until this thread.

(BTW, who did the Trout emoticon? Very nice!)
