rings

I just got mine and only the top two (plunger facing up) move. does the third (bottom with your number) need unlocked, or is mine broken... thank you.

Rings

Don't worry about it, mine is basically the same way. If I try hard enough, I can make the bottom ring move. Don't worry about it, it won't affect your ability to do the puzzle. Smile

Ahhhh Finally some progress

I've just finished deciphering all the clues in the book with the aid of an online computer deciphering program. Hooorayyyy, I didn't have to spend 10 bucks for any clues.

Now onward to get carpal tunnel syndrome with this thing. I'm not sure how the maze works, but there was something mentioned here about an 11th clue. 11th Clue? Where did that come from? I only had 10 clues in my instruction manual from Sharper Image.

This ought to be interesting.

Anyone know what the 11th clue is or where to find it?

Almost two hours later now and my fingers are about to fall off. This puzzle is really a bugger. My finger tips hurt like crazy from this stupid orb.

About time I got mine opened.

It took me a while, I must say the European clues are better than the American ones. I will agree with others when I say the only reason this puzzle is impossible is because unless you read the clues here, you will be just spinning your wheels.

Anyway, I am just waiting for the Sharper Image site to send me my password for the site and I will go from there.

Quite actually, getting the thing to re-lock was harder than getting it open.

If you really really want to know how to open, for the American, not sure if the European one is different as we do not have a key.

I'm actually at the same point, except I haven't gotten it open yet. It got to this point and now I'm stuck. I guess I'll just keep trying to push the plunger and hope I get it through the maze.

A poorly made disappointment.

I saw this thread earlier in the year, and I thought the Isis sounded amazing. It was the only thing I asked for this Christmas, and I received it. Excited to begin my 'adventure,' I began working on the clues. They were easy enough, but for a $200 puzzle that claims to be the 'world's hardest,' I expected a little more. Including decryption, I had mine open in about twenty minutes. Before anyone jumps the gun here, let me say that when I came across this thread before, it wasn't nearly as long and full of spoilers as it is now, the Isis puzzle was still truly captivating lots of people.

After solving it, I registered the serial numbers, etc, and I'm working on the next riddle. Although the prizes aren't why I asked for this puzzle, I wanted a challenge, which I didn't get.

I thought it may have been a fluke, and decided to reset the puzzle. I've been trying for hours to reset it, and i cannot get the lock to click back into place. I haven't lost any bearings, everything is in the right place, I'm following the instructions from the Isis website, which, by the way, are almost as vague as the clues that help you solve it. After five times the amount of time it took to solve it, I still can't get it back together. It's not worth it to pay a lot of money to have it sent overseas and then pay a repair charge on top of that, so I decide to have a look for myself, look what I found.

The first picture is proof that this is actually my puzzle and i have indeed opened it.

The second picture is the maze/lock mechanism that has to be pushed in to solve the Isis. Conversely, to reset it, you have to knock it back into place. The ball pictured is scratched so badly that it won't rotate freely, and is difficult to push in.

The third picture is another shot of the same side.

The fourth picture is the opposite side, which also has a badly scratched bearing, also notice the poor machining on the side of the piece.

The last picture shows The lower shell of the Isis, where the maze/lock mechanism rests, notice the scratched areas.

I should also add that when removing the maze/lock mechanism I used a pair of forceps with a shirt wrapped around them, to prevent any scratching, the damage I found was in no way my own doing.

EDITED because the board formatted the picture captions in single lines, adding a mile to the pages width.

I think...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I dropped it from chest height and it appeares that something else is in the ball now. by the sound of it, it is a larger ball bearing in a smaller tunnel. so...yes...i think that i have released the third ball by dropping it

anyways...look at page 8(i think) there are some cool and helpful x-rays of the Isis there

Krypt,

I don't have an Isis , but your pleas for help caused me to take a little peek through this thread, and according to 2 or 3 people, dropping it DOES release a third ball.

I probably am wrong though.. who knows.. like I said, I don't have one myself.

I am interested in getting one though. I see so many people with so much frustration, It would be right up my alley.

So, if anyone wants to post a link to a site where i can get one (cuz I'm too lazy to look it up) please feel free. Otherwise, you will force my hand and I'll have to actually read and find it on my own lol.

I've read through most of this thread so if I do ever get one, i should be able to breeze through it no problem.

EDIT: NM found the link. and man is this thing expensive...
I'll probably have to wait a little bit to get this considering I've been on vacation for a month and a half now.
