This has probably been posted already, but...

What about SPDR? Or The Spider? Could it be Single Player Demo Release?

I was indeed. It was intended to be a joke. I don't use smilies often, so I can see how the meaning could get lost. Even if I wasn't, a lawsuit as such wouldn't pertain to me, since I predominantly use IE, and thus have no problems with accessing the content.

ZeldaFreak: I recall seeing that somewhere, yeah.

I'd like to point out how mindbogglingly illogical this theory is.

Why would Microsoft spend millions in an international theater ad campaign clearly saying 'Halo 2: November 9th', and then immediately contradict that within the space of the same trailer?

It'd be insanity.

Also, demos are usually released within 1-3 weeks of a games release, or shortly after it comes out. Not 77 days (over two months!) before launch.

How does one do more work in the same amount of time? get more people.... XBOX LIVE Halo 2 beta test....

I don't see how they could make it a public Xbox Live test...

Except saying to MS that they should make it downloadable like 3.0

Concerning all of the statements made about how it would be retarded to release on Aug 24th when they are clearly advertising Nov 9th on their ad: On the countdown pop up it says In __ days this medium will metastasize. Metastasize (to those of you who don't know) means to infect or spread out. What if by this they mean that in __ days (15 right now) they will release the info that Halo 2 will be released early? Also i have not seen it brought up on this thread that August 24th 1995 Microsoft released Windows 95 on the unexpecting world.

So they spent a butt load of money on an ad, giving a final release date for a game...

But they put a clue in there that leads to ilovebees.

ilovebees has a countdown.

When this countdown... counts.. down... we get information that Halo will be released early.

I'm willing to bet $150 that this has nothing to do with an early release of Halo 2.

Speculation is getting out of hand.

Sorry for any trouts, but some of this speculation has gotten out of hand.

I was on hand for the Microsoft XBOX E3 Press Conference, and I can assure you the release date of Halo 2 is November 9th, 2004 - Hell it was "tatooed" on that Peter Main's arm.

However like people have said it would be incredibly possible and likely to have a XBOX live beta test prior to HALO's release (the mestasticizing) - console manufacturers (PS2/XBOX/PC/etc) do it all the time to see how multiplayer functions prior to the release. With a game as hugely popular as HALO they need to TEST the @#%! out of it, and as many recall have put forth a HUGE marketing budget for it, probably some of which is fueling this great ARG. I think this is most likely The Beast 2, but since it is close to home, with Microsoft owning Bungie, and Bungie having done this type of thing in the past, I can assure you that Bungie is involved as well as the special Beast team from Microsoft.

I think while the ARG (which is great) are for the hardcore, the countdown is most likely pointing to something like a beta test for those willing to spend some fun time in the world that the Puppetmasters are creating, similiar to the free screening of AI for people who followed The Beast (which of course was not the only reason playing)

This time, since ARG is not a new thing, Microsoft/Bungie has created a unique dicotomy of players, some of which are rabid HALO fans, some of which are huge XBOX fans, some of which are ARG players, and some of which are BOTH. Note how much different that this is from the fan base of the Original Beast.

The point I think I am trying to make, is have fun, everyone get along, and I am sure the end result will be something rewarding, not only completing a new cool story, but probably some HALO 2 goodness as well.

That is all.

I agree that an early release of Halo 2 is not likely. There's a lot to consider in a major release. Your supply, your retailers, making sure customers are aware. A surprise release catches most of those major players with their pants down, and would mess with actual sales.

On the other hand, we know Bungie has shown around playable demos.

How about a Live-distributed demo? It's a big surprise, it avoids taxing an unprepared third-party supply chain, and it drives sales of Xbox Live.

It lets the medium metastasize through the host system, the internet.

Though I do like the speculation about what SPDR really stands for too.

And just going off on a wild speculation here... what if they were going to release what constitues the 'prologue' of Halo 2? Say a level, distributed through Live, every two or three weeks. Wouldn't that be a way to build up anticipation for a game? This month we give you a single player level. Next month, multiplayer.

eMouse, that sounds completely valid--releasing levels to build anticipation--and it also sounds like something that Microsoft would do.

However (and I'm not alone in this), it would be a huge dissapointment if all the time and effort people are putting into the ARG would lead up to something as simple as level releases. I never played The Beast, but from what I've heard, it was incredibly fun. I'm sure that if all it led up to was a release date for a 10 minute preview of A.I., people would have been pissed.

I'm looking forward to August 24th, but I'm fearing it at the same time. Halo 2 will be amazing when it's released, but this ARG seems to be just as fun.
