[OOG] Aliens Vs. Predator: Requiem
Nothing New

I went and saw it opening day, awesome movie, much better than the first avp. with tons of references to the alien and predator movies.
there was even a scene where two stoners get there there heads blasted off simultaneously with the preds plasma caster, me and a bunch of other guys started clapping

back on topic, there was a Cloverfield trailer, but only the normal "Case Designate" one from Beowulf.

it was funny when cloverfield trailer came on a bunch of people were like:

CLOVERFIELD!
I WANNA SEE THIS SOOO BAD!

just in case it was any of you guys, i was at the Regal Cinema in Ft. Myers Florida, at the Gulf Coast Town Center, on Christmas Day, 5:00pm lol

my theater now has a big cloverfield card-board cut out

AVP-R, even though better then the first, is horrible and cheesy beyond belief.
And i thought u wanted to beat the worst movie ever(AVP) with a ruler. Confused

yeah, I saw AVPR last night too, and they showed the shorter trailer for cloverfield... as soon as bad robot went on screen, I was "ahhh" and heard a few others exclaim excitement too Razz

AVPR on the other hand - entertaining. pure entertainment. in every way. you can take that however you wish Wink

suffice to say, favourite quote of the movie: "People are dying!" I think that sums it up =P
(and I agree, I preferred this one over the previous one)

Hah, fair enough.

Although it would've given those theater employees something to do...

God this movie sucked. If there had been any more homages to the other films I would've gotten sick. TOTAL lack of originality in this movie, and neither the Aliens nor the Predator got any justice in how they were depicted. The Aliens were little more than something to blow away, and the Predator was conveniently a horrible shot with its laser coordinated weapons and is getting outsmarted by them at nearly every turn. You can't see anything due to extreme dark of the film and the constant rain.

WTF was with the Pred-Alien?. The human born aliens looked nothing like human beings yet the Pred-Alien has to have dreadlocks and stand upright?

WTF was with the 5 minute turnaround time on the facehugger incubation and birth to full grown alien warrior? If this was the Alien from the first three films, the Predator would have killed the 1 alien that might have caused this mess, and the movie would have ended, if only. God, where are the 'good' script writers in Hollywood?

WTF was with the Predator getting a free pass by the Pred-Alien to remove all his gear for the 'final' round of the fight?? Did he HAVE to remove his mask EXACTLY like the Predator from the first film???? WTF was with the Pred-Alien doing the same little challenge dance?

WTF, this movie was a sequel, yet there were only TWO predators on the ship? WTF happened to the uber-warrior Predators that were on board that likely would have handled this problem in 2 seconds. WTF did the ship crash just because two members of the crew died? WhyTF did just '1' Predator come to the rescue when they would've known how quickly these Aliens can spread on a populated planet. He wasn't there to trophy hunt. God help me, I'm having nightmares because of this disaster....

[OT][RANT][REVIEW]

If I didn't know that the theatre what showing AVP:R, I would've thought it was the funniest comedy of the year. I was in a full, big theater, and everyone was laughing at this movie. It wasn't scary or suspenseful in the least.
The storyline was a total joke. Plot: A big-ass Rastafarian alien kills lots of other big-ass aliens with acid blood, for no apparent reason (I didn't (read:couldn't) watch AVP, but they should at least give some explanation.) And some humans are killed too, just for fun. Sub-plot: Think of every cliché ever used over 50 times, and then cut it off before you start to care about the characters. A dweeb pizza boy has a thing for a smokin' hot popular girl, who has a secret crush on him too, but her jock boyfriend finds out and beats him up. She breaks up with her boyfriend and dialogue seemingly written by a monkey ensues: "Lets go swimming together in the pool tonight, just like old times." (They look like they're 17, at the most. Were they skinny dipping together at age 12?) "Like old times, before you had a boyfriend?" "Yeah. And it's ex-boyfriend now."
Then, a break from this "plot" for some ultra-violence.
If you're looking for continuity in this movie, you can stop now. It's set in a small town, although various overhead shots show a city the size of Detroit, minus skyscrapers. All of the townspeople somehow know how shoot a semi-automatic with skill. The predator can seemingly get from one place to another instantaneously when it takes 5-10 minutes to drive there. The aliens only bleed acid blood when its appropriate to the plot. The predator seems to move and fight exactly like a man. (He reminds me of the bear in "Hercules in New York, see below). And the ending is quite genius. Writer 1: "So the city is entirely infested with aliens. How do we end this?" Writer 2:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
"Lets just... nuke it."
Writer 1: "Done!"
Nevermind that this didn't advance any previous plot in the least bit until the very last scene, which went right over my head, considering I never saw any of the first ones. This film is the polar opposite of Cloverfield, as far as I can tell. Cloverfield already has a huge amount of character development in the ARG, as well as the first 20 minutes entirely devoted to just that. The dialog is entirely realistic from what I've heard in the trailer as opposed to one-liners ever other line in AVP:R. There's a complex reason and history behind the attack, which I sure as hell hope is explained in the movie. And with the hospitals and coughing up blood, I highly doubt any of the deaths will make me laugh, like I did when the predator
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
blows up two stoners' heads at the same time.

0.5/5 stars, for making me laugh.
And here's the governor of California beating up a bear wearing sneakers.

Hang about!

Hey eliwein, is that a horse and cart in NYC?

Is Hercules in New York linked to Cloverfield now?

Best watch out before 84-minutes.net starts talking about the "One who will be back"!

My contention is that ALIEN was good up to Aliens, and then sucked thereafter from irreparable story line damage, and "crank em out" quality due to the film industry pressure. (I'm sorry, puppet dog alien my arse)

Predator was fine until AvP, and even then the predator side wasn't thaaat bad, but the both franchises have become locked together in a death spiral of suck, in my view.

But I'm an old fogey I suppose.
